So wanted to catch you up on what’s going on. I had been fighting cancer since January of this year and happy to say it’s gone. But I still have side effects and have to have surgery this Friday. Which brings me to the next issue that I will have three days off and may need a fourth the Tuesday after Labor Day. Hopefully not needed but it may, I will keep you updated. It’s been a struggle to keep everything going but it did work..

Thanks

Rick

As humans, we’ve long understood the importance of eating fresh, whole foods and steering clear of ultra-processed options. The link between processed foods and a myriad of health issues—ranging from allergies and gastrointestinal problems to neurological disorders and even cancers—has been well established. So why is it that when we consult with most vets and breeders, we’re often advised to only feed ultra-processed food to our pets? This is a critical topic for long-term health, and with your help, we can work together to change this!
This week, one of the few unbiased, independent pet food research groups, DogRisk, is raising money to advance this important topic for the benefit of dogs everywhere. It’s absolutely crucial that groups like DogRisk exist and remain independent, free from the influence of major food and pharmaceutical companies, so they can publish findings without bias or pressure from commercial interests. That’s why we need to support them today!
My amazing veterinary colleague and her team of passionate students are leading the charge, globally, on pet nutrition. Their team includes veterinarians, animal nutritionists, biologists, chemists, geneticists, and other experts who look at every facet of pet nutrition and how it impacts health and well-being. The DogRisk team uses a variety of cutting-edge research methods to expand the world’s understanding of dog diets and diseases:
* Large-scale questionnaires to uncover the associations between dietary factors and disease risk or protection, using robust epidemiological methods.
* Clinical diet intervention studies to determine whether certain diets can prevent disease or alleviate symptoms in affected dogs.
* Comparing food supplements to pharmaceuticals and placebos to scientifically demonstrate the therapeutic power of nutrition—like using fish oil or green-lipped mussel meat for managing arthritic pain.
* Genetic research allows the team to dig deep into gene expression, metabolic pathways, and gut microbiota, shedding light on why some dogs are more prone to disease than others.
* They also evaluate the risks associated with various diets, finding, for example, that commercially available raw foods carry no more risk of harmful bacteria than dry foods.
All of their funding comes from individuals like you and me. Your donation helps them continue this vital work and empowers them to share their findings with dog owners worldwide. Please consider donating today, $1, $10, $100...it all helps us know more! Together, we can extend the life and health span of dogs everywhere. With your support, we can make this happen! Dog mange mites on humans does happen, but the mites aren't evolved to thrive on humans so the rash will clear up on its own.

There is absolutely no need to repeatedly titer your dog! Once you learn about the key immune system component called the memory cell, you will understand that repeated titering does nothing but waste your money and create confusion in the cases of many older dogs. Read about it here: https://healthydogworkshop.com/the-trouble-with-titers/

I wanted to update you on what's going on with our food distributors.

Thoma raised the prices of their three complete meals by .50 cents a pound. All the other products I get from them are minimal increases of 5 cents.

Blue Ridge will be raising their prices for most of the items. I will get out a price list as soon as I can put it together. This will happen the next order which will be next month.

Balto has not raised their prices.

And something personal I may have to have a surgery and take off one or two days and will let you know how this progresses and when it will happen.

Thanks

Rick

📣 What you feed your pet goes far beyond the cost of the pet food.

Feeding a bowl of dry kibble is like eating a bowl of dry cereal. How would your body feel if the only thing you ever consumed was dry cereal that had a synthetic vitamin/mineral mix added in? While that might be considered a complete diet containing all the vitamins and minerals needed for survival, it most certainly would not result in vibrant health.

The veterinary industry can attempt to defend kibble and demonize raw, but thankfully the results from pets around the world speak for themselves ❤️

Green bananas🍌 can prevent and reduce cancers by over 60%, according to the American Association of Cancer Research, so maybe stop hunting for those yellow bananas in the supermarket!

You can boost your dog’s immune and gut health with unripe, green bananas, which have less sugar and more fiber than in their ripened state. Research shows that green bananas offer:

🍌Pectin and prebiotics to build the microbiome and increase the production of butyrate and other short-chain fatty acids

🍌Leucocyanidin, a flavonoid that may help to prevent GI ulcers by inhibiting the release of histamine in the gut

🍌Resistant starch (non-digestible) fiber that helps to prevent intestinal disease, increase mineral absorption and B vitamin synthesis, control blood sugar, improve immune response, and may even prevent intestinal c*ncer

Need a treat for a dog with a sensitive stomach?

Quartered slices of green banana are a perfect training treat, whether your dog is prone to diarrhea or not. Suggested amounts, chopped into bite sized pieces:

Giant breeds: 1 green banana a day
Medium to large breeds: ½ green banana a day
Small breeds: ¼ green banana a day

In Chapter 3 titled TREATS and TOPPERS of The Forever Dog LIFE, we give you a rainbow 🌈 of options to treat your dog to better health including recipes that use bananas in a creative way and baking options like green banana flour that is a low glycemic healthier alternative to plain white flour! Now available in bookstores.
