It's a blind wolf tooth! This young mare had to leave training early, and we did a thorough oral exam to see what might be bothering her.

Most horses have little teeth called wolf teeth that can cause problems with the bit. But usually, we can see them! They usually sit right up against the big premolars.

In this case, I didn't see any wolf teeth, but I felt under the gingiva (gums) a couple inches forward from where the wolf teeth normally are and I could feel a wolf tooth that never erupted through. It was exactly where the bit would be. X-rays confirmed there was a tooth hiding under the gingiva and helped with the extraction of it.

Hard situations open up great opportunities. We are parting ways with Tribute Feeds, but open to YOUR suggestions of feed companies YOU want to work with. Discussions have begun with Purina, but we would love to hear your thoughts! Please comment or privately let us know how we can help with your feed and supplements from alternative brands. Thank you!

P.S. Here's an awesome thing Purina does:

We are updating our farrier list. If your farrier is taking on more clients, we'd love to know about it. Would you please comment or privately send us their name and number, and we will contact them to see if they would like us to give out their information. Thanks for helping us help other horse owners!

Edited: if you are looking for a new farrier, please let us know privately by email to [email protected]. We are having great conversations with farriers and will likely be able to help match farriers with clients based on needs and location.

We're getting a lot of great questions about getting ready for foals coming. The best way for us to help is with an in-person check of your mare at which time we have helpful and specific resources I will go through with you.

American Association of Equine Practitioners is also a great resource. Here's a very handy foaling sheet to print out :)

We'll be placing an order on Wednesday for feed and supplements. This includes anything from the enormous Kalmbach line which includes Tribute and Tribute's more affordable partner brand, Right Choice.

Here at Dells Equine, we carry the popular types of feeds, but also more specialized options that you can't find at the local stores. Some of the these include:

Essential K Ration Balancer WITH FLY CONTROL ADDED IN
Tribute Constant Comfort Plus pellet topdress-FOR STOMACH & INTESTINAL ULCERS, DIARRHEA
Tribute Foal Foundation-IF YOU HAVE A FOAL COMING, YOU NEED THIS
Tribute Growth-FOR THE RAPIDLY GROWING FOAL AND THE NURSING MARE
Tribute Equi-Ferm Probiotic-DIARRHEA, F***L WATER
Right Choice Performance-a budget-friendly high fat feed for HARD KEEPERS OR PERFORMANCE HORSES
Tribute Alfa Essentials-Ration Balancer FOR HORSES EATING ALFALFA HAY

If you like your feed, but wish it was in a pellet instead of textured, (or the other way around), we can order that. If you're having trouble finding a certain ingredient such as alfalfa meal, hay extender, beet pulp, salt, or magnesium, we're here to help. If you feed alfalfa hay, you need to make sure your other feeds are formulated differently than most feeds out there. Please call us tomorrow or Tuesday and we're happy to answer your questions and add your selections to the order.

We offer premium horse feeds, supplements, & personalized help at Tribute® Equine Nutrition. Explore our fortified, balanced, & safely made blends.

Update to the updated post. Our sick goat has a tumor in her chest (green curved line). The reason we can see it is a chest tube was placed (pink arrow) which drained out most of the fluid. Without the fluid, the lungs could expand again. With lungs/air around the tumor, instead of fluid, it is easier to see. Also, the sick goat radiographs were taken a couple months apart, during which the tumor grew.

The tumor is most likely a thymoma or lymphoma. She is being managed with a steroid and is stable and back to being a happy goat for now.

Update to the last post. A handful of people were spot on! This poor goat has fluid in the chest, surrounding the lungs. Look at the radiographs again. The yellow outline shows the space taken up by the lungs. You can see how the lungs are constricted and limited to the top part of the chest (outlined in yellow). In the sick goat, you can't even see the heart (outlined in red in the healthy goat).
Now, take a look at the last photo, which is the sick goat radiographed several weeks later. What do you see?
Here is an interesting radiograph of a goat's chest that had trouble breathing. What do you think? There is also a normal goat chest radiograph for comparison.
