in. I use positive reinforcement methods that allow your dogs to trust you. I will teach you how to train your dog to become consistent with the tasks you ask of them and how to connect with them.

Fixation 👀‼️
Not as simple as just a locked gaze, and in many ways fixation is ALREADY a reaction.
It just isn't a verbal reaction.
Fixation never leads to anything good for a reactive dog, it is an escalation of emotions and needs to be recognised and acted on.
There are lots of ways to help this, one in particular is a U turn (video in the comments).

A huge shout out to Midwest K9 Scent Sports for hosting their annual New Years Day Challenge!
All three of my “kids” got to play. This was particularly important for Ray. He may be getting older but his nose still works really well AND he loves this game!!

Garth had a surgical consult on Friday December 13th and he was NOT a surgical canidate. This is good news!! We are still looking for answers to help him get his run back. In the meantime, this boy loves to work even with a stupid brace on. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Ray sleeps a lot these days. He is very quiet and will lay in a corner of a room instead of engage with us. Sometimes I forget to invite him to join me on the couch. Most of the time I remember. Friday I sat on the couch and invited him up. He slept soundly in my lap for at least an hour. Can I tell you, I enjoyed every minute! ❤️❤️❤️

He is scheduled for a surgery consult next Friday. Keep your fingers crossed! In the meantime, thank you so much for all of the suggestions to keep his mind busy while he is rehabbing. I will admit it’s as much for me as it is for him.
We are working on push the ball.

I’m on a quest to find new ways to engage with him while he heals. And I need your help with ideas!
When the brace is on, right now it is on 16hours a day, he is limited to things he can do standing.
He loves to learn and will love having new challenges!

Then it dawns on me that Rebel is chewing on a bully stick AND by being on my lap gets him close enough to grab the bully stick if there is an opportunity.🫤

I found “old” photos of #bellathewonderdog doing her “Road Trip” trick. She wasn’t suppose to sit in the suitcase but she was so freaking cute when she did that her sitting in the suitcase became the trick . Really, who needs a teddy bear when you have dog.❤️❤️❤️. How it all began...

“I promise, she will be the best dog ever!” I remember saying this to my husband as we finished reading the child’s version of “Marley and Me”. Both my husband and I were almost in tears after seeing renderings of a very naughty lab and then looking at our then 8 week old yellow lab, Bella, and wondering what we had done.

I had grown up training and showing Shetland Sheepdogs, so I thought how hard could this be? It had only been 10 years since I last had a puppy. My oh my, how things have changed, or maybe how I have changed. I found a training facility, called Seattle Agility Center, that used positive reinforcement methods to train and it was like instantaneous training with Bella. She loved to learn, she loved trying new things, and she loved to please. I wanted everyone to know about this training method! And that is when it really started... I’ve been training dogs professionally for nine years, with another 10 years of showing and training dogs before that. Using positive reinforcement has transformed my perception of dogs and has made training so much fun.
