is an animal welfare organization comprised of volunteers, is tax deductible, and whose purpose is to assist pet owners and those who rescue homeless pets with referrals to the most affordable vet services for vaccinations/sterilizations. We have no animal shelter, but house animals in need of rehoming in foster homes of our volunteers, or in the homes of people trying to place their pets. We adop

t by application, references, home visits and contract. Our contract is easily followed by responsible humans. Our adoption fee ranges from $250-$550, largely depending on what we have spent in order to bring an animal to adoptability. There are times that we have spent hundreds to thousands of dollars on a needy but deserving animal. Of course, we cannot expect people to reimburse us for expenses that outrageous. We get most of our dogs through a network put in place to help puppy mill rescues. Since we have no shelter or business location, we are available for information or consultation at any time that someone is available to answer the phones. This includes weekends and nights. We hold board meetings a few times a year that anyone is welcome to attend. We send out a Newsletter 2 times a year. Our annual meeting is in December.

If you know someone who would make a great parent for a small dog, we have many to choose from. Anna prefers retirees or someone who doesn't work, homes with fenced yards, no children in the home, and at least one person who spends a lot of time at home.
We have several Chihuahua mixes, some small terrier type mixes, and two older ShihTzus. We also have a larger dog that is a Lab mix and weighs about 50 pounds.
Call Anna to be considered for adopting.

We are very thankful that the kindness and generosity of Lori Hudson continues even after her death. Her family came to visit us to bring a donation from her memorial, and have offered proceeds from the upcoming estate sale as well.
There aren't words to express what a loss it is for everyone for Lori to be gone way too soon. Thank you from all of us at Spay-Lee for making us a part of her legacy.

Update: The truck is gone to a new owner.

Spay Lee has a vehicle that we need to sell. If you know someone interested please have them call us. We are not able to reply to posts here on FB, so the only way to inquire is to call Anna.

This is a 2002 Ford F150 extended cab Pick Up. We recently put new parts into the vehicle worth over $2000. The truck runs well and is ready to go.
We are asking $5000.

Update: Jackson has been adopted.

Jackson is still with us - his adoption was not a good fit so he came back very quickly. He got a great haircut and is looking dapper.
This guy is really a great dog who deserves a wonderful home of his own. He is about 9, weighs just under 20 pounds, and has great house manners once he figures out the system. He could be a smallish Labradoodle, or perhaps some sort of Maltese mix. We aren't sure about his background, but he is a very nice dog who would be perfect for that just right family.
He may have an accident or two upon arrival, but with your love and patience he will settle in and resume being the perfect house pet we see.
Call Anna to inquire about adopting Jackson. 239-841-2382

We are devastated to have to share the news that one of our amazing supporters, who was also an adopter, has suddenly died after a brief illness.
Lori adopted a few dogs from us over the years, and made us the recipient of very generous donations after the death of her mother.
Losing anyone you know is hard, but losing someone still fairly young and with so much to offer is especially painful.

Lori was a kind, loving person who will be sorely missed by her husband Brian and their two small dogs. We know they are grieving and send them our thoughts and prayers.

Rest in peace Lori, and know that you are going to be remembered for the good you put out into the world during your all-too-short stay.
Here is an adoption photo of Lori with one of our former Spay-Lee dogs, who was then called Pixie, on the right.

Sparks, who is now Bluey, was adopted by John and Jean last fall. The whole family decided there was room for one more, so today they adopted Coco.
We are beyond thrilled that Coco got chosen quickly after losing her last home, and now has a loving home where she can spend the rest of her days!
Thank you so much John and Jean for adopting not just one, but TWO Spay Lee dogs. We are always so grateful for people like you who can see the gem that is a rescue dog 🥰

UPDATE 4/23/24: Coco has now been adopted. We still have Jackson and also Koko the terrier mix. Plus a few others as well! Call Anna to find your perfect fit. 239-841-2382

We have two new dogs that came to us when their owners could no longer care for them. They are both very, very nice dogs with great house manners and lovely temperaments.

Jackson (on the left) is most likely some kind of Maltese mix. He weighs between 15-20 pounds and is about 9 years old. He is perfectly house trained and would make a wonderful addition for the right family. He lost his home due to no fault of his own!

Coco (on the right) is a Yorkie that was adopted from us several years ago. Her family could no longer care for her due to health issues, so she is back with us looking for a new family. She is about 8 years old and weighs about 6 pounds. She has been very well cared for and is used to being a beloved family member, so we are seeking a new family to make her their world.

Call Anna to inquire about adopting either one of these sweet dogs. 239-841-2382

Unfortunately Lena is back looking for a home again. It turned out that the adopter was allergic to her, so she could not keep her. Lena is most likely a Miniature Schnauzer and would be a great buddy for another small, friendly dog.
Lena is still a bit timid but would come around more easily with a friend who knows all about being a house pet already. She is most likely between 5-8 years old and has been spayed and had a dental cleaning. All of her shots are up to date.

Two more adoptable dogs:
Petey and Koko have been with us for a very long time. Both are estimated to be about 8 years old.
We would love to find them those just right homes! Both will need adult homes since they have not been around children.

Koko is a terrier mix small dog. She is house trained and very easy to live with. Her one quirk is that she will nibble on your shoes, while you are wearing them of course, if she wants something from you or is unhappy with something you are doing.
She is a sweetheart.
Petey is a Boston Terrier mix. He is a very opinionated little guy who will let you know exactly what he likes and does not like at all times. We are seeking a home with a securely fenced yard since Petey prefers to run outside all day chasing anoles. When he comes in it is only to get a drink or take a short rest. At bedtime he conks out and sleeps soundly all night.
If you think you are the right fit for one of these two sweeties please call Anna to discuss adopting. 239-841-2382

More special adoptions - what else?
We still have 5 small terrier/chihuahua mix boys who desperately need to find homes of their very own. They will become great pets with your love and attention. We would like to separate them but are running out of room with the current influx of dogs. They love hanging out together, but you know how it is with a group of teenaged boys hanging out together - sometimes they aren't the best behaved. But individuallly they can be great!
Having a human family and choosing to be part of your pack will make all the difference for these boys.
They are all similar in size at about 10-13 pounds, and are all still young at about 2-3 years old.
If you come to meet them you have to get past the initial barking and carrying on that the group likes to do. Once you spend time with them individually you will see the potential in the one you choose.
In your home you will need to confine your new pet in a small area when you aren't supervising him to help him learn house rules. They are not currently reliably house trained, but this can be accomplished with consistency and patience. If you have a small female dog who needs a friend and is well trained one of these guys might be perfect.
On the right you see Bingo, Frankie and Freddie.
As always, call Anna to inquire. They have been with us for far too long and desperately need a family of their very own.

Another very special adoption is needed for this little guy. He can be super charming once he decides you are ok, but initially he is fearful and may be nippy. He is some sort of terrier mix with a lot of Jack Russell type tendencies. Very smart and agile!

He weighs about 12 pounds and is estimated to be 3-4 years old.
His name has been Tito but he also responds to White Dog.
He is good with other calm small dogs, especially female dogs, but may not be good with larger male dogs.

He likes hanging out with someone he loves, but it may take him time to decide if you are the one. He will need time to learn about walking on a leash and having appropriate responses to other humans.
He will not be adopted to a home with children. He is nervous around new people and situations and will bark and be intimidating to less savvy humans, and may bite.

We will only adopt him to someone who is very dog savvy and understands how to keep him safe as well as the humans he encounters. He is doing great with house training and currently goes outside to a securely fenced area when he needs to.

We realize this is a long shot, but if you or someone you know might be the right one for Tito, please contact us.

These dogs are all going to take time and consistency, and a whole lot of love, to become happy, normal, pet dogs. They have been through a lot, and deserve that chance, but we realize this task isn't for everyone. Each one is probably somewhere between 5-8 years old and weighs about 10-12 pounds. They have been spayed, had dental cleanings, and all vaccinations.

Lena is a Schnauzer who is very wary about humans.

Sally is a ShihTzu (black/white) who is very skittish and wary about human interaction.

Sandy is a ShihTzu (buff/tan) with chronic dry eye and vision in only one eye. She is sweet and should warm up more quickly, but she requires eye drops at least twice a day and will for the rest of her life.
They all currently use p*e pads indoors, and have access to a securely fenced yard to get exercise and run as much as they like during the day.
The adoption fee is $550 to cover the veterinary services already completed. We will only adopt these dogs to adult homes with secure areas where the dog can explore freely like a large lanai or securely fenced yard.
Call Anna if you are interested and have a calm, quiet home for one of them. 239-841-2382

UPDATE: Melissa has been readopted as of 3/6/24. Hooray!

We have several adoptable dogs. Most are going to take a lot of love and patience to become family members.
Melissa has been returned to us and is once again looking for that ultra patient, loving, person who can help her overcome her fears. She is a small Maltese and will need an adults only home with someone very, very patient. Keeping her confined in a small, secure area like a bathroom or puppy pen until she feels safe will be the best plan for her so she can't hide under the furniture.
Call Anna if you think you have the time and love to help her find out how great life can be.

Our Story

About S.P.A.Y.-L.E.E Inc. is an animal welfare organization comprised entirely of volunteers and located in Lee County, Florida. Our organization was founded in 1993. We are a tax deductible 501.c.3 charity, and our purpose is to take in small dogs(under 10 pounds) and Dobermans that are in need of new homes. We also help pet owners with referrals for low cost sterilization of pets. One of our missions is to stop the massive number of pets euthanized in this country.

We have no animal shelter, but house animals in need of rehoming in the homes of our volunteers, or in the homes of people trying to place their pets. We adopt by application, references, home visits and contract. Our contract assures the dogs in our care of being placed in homes where they will be maintained as indoor house pets. Our adoption fee ranges from $100 to $450, largely depending on what we have spent in order to bring an animal to adoptability. There are times that we have spent thousands of dollars on a needy but deserving animal. We do our best to offset these expenses through the generosity of our supporters to keep our adoption fees reasonable. Sometimes there is minimal cost necessary to get an animal into adoptable condition. In this case, a minimal adoption fee and microchipping charge is paid by the adopter.

About half the animals we have available for adoption come to us from animal shelters. We do off premises adoptions at PetSmart and Pet Supermarket stores locally, and internet rescue via petfinder.com and rescueme.org. We also network with Doberman rescues in the state. Since we have no shelter or business location, we are available for information or consultation at any time that someone is available to answer the phones. This includes weekends and nights. We have approximately 75 dues paying members at any given time, and do a newsletter 2-4 times a year. Our annual meeting is in December.
