Stoney Brook Poodles Our dogs are bred for beauty, confirmation and temperament, and make wonderful additions to any family as well as outstanding therapy dogs.

Stoney Brook Poodles, owned by Sandra Cointreau has been producing beautiful AKC registered Standard Poodles of impeccable pedigree for 25 years at her rural home where she also keeps her horses. Each litter is temperament tested to determine how best to match their personalities with families, their other animals, or with potential work ( including hunting and therapy). We are proud of our Stone

y Brook working dogs. At the Poodle Club of Massachusetts event, Stoney Brook D. (Lucy) won a Working Certificate (WC) when tested in the field for water fowl retrieval in 2009. At the Poodle Club of America National Event, she was one of only 8 poodles nationally that won a WC and a Working Certificate Excellent (WCX). AKC awarded Stoney Brook Rupert the Survivor an Honorable Mention for Canine Excellence (ACE) in the category of exemplary Therapy work in 2007. One dog in the country, a corgi, won the ACE award for therapy, and only 7 dogs won the honorable mention. Rupert was the only standard poodle in this group of 8 dogs recognized by AKC. Westminster Kennel Club acknowledges exemplary Therapy dogs at their annual shows and Stoney Brook Scout has received that honor for her work in New York hospitals. One of our poodles provided a healing presence at her veterinarian owner's office; another provided a healing presence at her pschologist owner's office; and another provided in-home therapeutic support for a family with three special needs children. In 2010, four Stoney Brook puppies were selected to start therapy training for their future work (detecting low blood sugar and potential seizure, engaging and improving the education of autistic and other special education children, bringing happiness and healing to children in hospitals). Each year more and more of our Stoney Brook poodles join this historic group of therapy dogs

I can't wait for the Washington Art Association & Gallery 24th Member Show to begin March 9th. I took over my entry and there were over 170 wonderful paintings of every medium. I can't imagine how the judge will do the work of choosing winners. Reception will be March 9 from 4-6. My entry below, in watercolor:

You are ALL so kind. The best part of breeding since 1996 is the many friends and extended family that have happened....and then there is the delight of raising pups 🙂 LOVE to you all and thank you for this support. Petunia is doing well, so calm and loving, the vets all called her "stoic" . I finally had a treatment for the herniated disc, which I am confident will have a good outcome, and am following the rest and physical therapy cures for the torn hamstring tendon. Yay. Meanwhile, other than taking care of the dogs and horses, I am only painting small watercolors. I had some detailed sketches done months ago, and they are now being painted, including this one done yesterday of a lovely black CH mini who was shown in abundant cords and owned by Leslie Newing . It isn't a commission, so I just tried to capture some of this precious poodles spirit and the incredible bouncy cords. I hope you enjoy it.

My Stoney Brook Faire Rosamunde had a false pregnancy. She was well tested and had a good breeding, including a long tie, but fooled me with classic symptoms....but no puppies. I guess Spirit just didn't think it was the right time, but it is definitely a disappointment, given how exemplary the combination of parents was.

A week ago, my one year old Petunia was running and sprung off the stone wall, unfortunately with her foot stuck, and got a leverage break straight across both bones in her front leg. A loud scream and I was there lifting her to run into the house, before any of the 4 other poodles could make a decision that this could be a chance to move up in the pack. She is here with her initial split, waiting for surgery. Now she has a steel plate surgically implanted and will be on house rest for about 3 months. She is doing well and enjoying being alone with me in the kitchen and my bedroom. Never a dull moment.

Grand Champion Tivin Kaylen Magic Dance this past weekend at a show. He took the time to be a stud to our Rosemunde before and after the show. An All-White litter anticipated.

Today as our Stoney Brook Poodles, and the pups born in October enjoy finally having the invisible fence repaired. Faire Rosemunde is the tall girl in front with the long undocked tail.

Pups free at last...after months with fencing problems...now repaired. Happy puppies (and adult dogs)....and happy ME.

These two pups were born in October and they have been a joy to live with. They are getting through this heat wave by having a very early 6 AM outting, and then a late one at 4 PM. Just too hot!!

I am upset to see this article. All products I have tried were either useless and created rashes, and other effects. The Seresto collar kept the fleas and ticks away...but now this is bad news of seizures and deaths. The numbers don't look large relative to the number of animals using it......What are we to do...except stop using all pesticides? I have no words, and probably will just be watchful and switch only cod any animal having a reaction....what do you think???....https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/investigations/2021/03/02/seresto-dog-cat-collars-found-harm-pets-humans-epa-records-show/4574753001/?fbclid=IwAR2S7oNr7adD4teB_46AmtAMun5Fh2awRywCQqUIto_JUh8IRzPo2GI71pQ

Since Seresto pet collars were introduced, the EPA has received more than 75,000 reports related to the collars, including 907 involving human harm.

If some of my poodle family of customers are wondering what I am doing between litters, I am teaching watercolor on Zoom. Here is a demo done during this week's 3 hour class. Also here is a video that I did to prepare an image for the class to replicate. https://youtu.be/LL-LzFXpLpQ

I rented Red Sparrow and settled in for a lovely movie night....and then there was this unmistakable skunk smell...so I ran to call in the dogs, and, YES, they had been sprayed. Groan. Internet consultation...do NOT wash, do NOT use ketchup, instead make a thick paste of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dishwashing liquid and put it on them for 5 minutes, and add water and wash off....No hydrogen peroxide, but mountains of baking soda...So I used the Clorox product for Colored Clothes...which is primarily hydrogen peroxide.
Worked like a charm. Then, I called the vet to schedule rabies shots ASAP, as any encounter with a wild animal requires redoing rabies shots. So much for a quiet night in. It is hard to air out the house, when the outdoors is reeking...but after a couple of hours I was able to open doors on the far side to help clear the house...as it burns the eyes like tear gas and there are toxins in it. GROAN.

Rosamunde has been wanting to play with my two pups for weeks, but I wanted to wait until I was sure Dolly would not feel protective. This was their first time together, as I opened the gate between the kitchen and the ladies dog room.

Remember Faire Rosamunde, the largest white female from Quinn's last litter as a stud here. This photo of her was taken at 4 months old. I had to wait to keep a daughter of Quinn's, since I couldn't risk any accidental matings between them. Quinn was immediately neutered so that I could keep her. Now, she is 2 years old on February 26th and goes for her tests for breeding in early March. If all goes well, out next litter will be with Rosamunde in the summer.
