Q🚨🐬 **Urgent Conservation Alert: The Vaquita Porpoise is on the Brink of Extinction** 🚨🐬

As of August 2024, the vaquita porpoise, the most endangered marine mammal in the world, is facing imminent extinction. Fewer than 10 individuals remain in the wild, primarily due to illegal gillnet fishing in their habitat in the northern Gulf of California.

Efforts are intensifying to address this crisis. Conservationists are advocating for:

1- **Stronger Enforcement**: Increased patrols and penalties to combat illegal fishing.

2- **Enhanced Surveillance**: Deployment of advanced technology to monitor the vaquita's environment.

3- **Alternative Livelihoods**: Support for local communities to transition away from destructive fishing practices.

The situation is CRITICAL, and we need global support to turn the tide. Every action counts in the fight to save the vaquita.

World Tails traveled to Ukraine three times in the past year to address the animal crisis there. The people we met are incredibly warm and inspiring. Please read the post below—this situation is deeply troubling, and I feel powerless from here in the United States, where many don’t fully grasp the gravity of these issues. While we face first-world problems, real suffering continues elsewhere. If you can, please consider donating even just five dollars (the cost of a Starbucks coffee) to support this veterinarian whose home was destroyed by a bombing. 💥Exciting news! What an amazing program! 🐕👮‍♀️🙌

The Tybee Police Department (Georgia, USA) has been recognized at the National Law Enforcement Summit in Las Vegas for their outstanding K9 program partnership with the Humane Society for Greater Savannah. This innovative collaboration not only enhances public safety but also provides retired and unadoptable dogs with a second chance at finding a forever home. It's a win-win for both the officers and the animals involved. To date, 67 shelter animals have joined Tybee police officers on patrol in order to exercise, socialize, and increase their chances for adoption.

Kudos to Tybee PD for leading the way in humane and effective policing!👏🩷

📣A single cat can have a significant number of kittens in her lifetime if she’s not spayed. Here’s how:

🐈‍⬛Average litter size: 3 to 5 kittens (but can range from 1 to 12)
🐈‍⬛Number of litters per year: 2 to 3 on average (up to 4 in some cases)
🐈‍⬛Reproductive lifespan: About 8 to 10 years

Using these averages:

🐾Low estimate: 3 kittens per litter × 2 litters per year × 8 years = 48 kittens.
🐾High estimate: 5 kittens per litter × 3 litters per year × 10 years = 150 kittens.

So, an unspayed cat could potentially have anywhere from 48 to 150 kittens in her lifetime. If each of her offspring then has the same number of litters/kittens in her lifetime they can produce more than 400,000 cats! 🤯

This highlights the importance of spaying to prevent overpopulation.
