To our Blue Star family we are heartbroken to share that our sweet boy Wesley has been diagnosed with bone cancer in the roof of his mouth. After careful consideration, we’ve decided that quality of life is our priority. Therefore we will be supporting him with pain management and cherishing every moment we have left.

Fortunately, we caught it early, and Wesley is currently asymptomatic except for a bump in his mouth that he doesn’t seem to notice. Given its location, surgery isn’t a viable option for us.

We will be celebrating Wesley with a private birthday party, and we would love your support during this time. If you feel inspired, we welcome birthday gifts to brighten his days, along with any pictures of his beautiful pups or bucket list ideas you’d like to share and keeping him and us in your prayers and thoughts.

I want to address the concerns surrounding Wesley's diagnosis of osteosarcoma and its potential implications for your own dogs. It’s important to understand that a diagnosis in one dog does not imply that other dogs from the same breeding line will necessarily develop the same condition.
Osteosarcoma, while a concern within the Golden Retriever breed, occurs sporadically and is influenced by various factors, including genetics, environment, and overall health. Many dogs from the same lineage can lead long, healthy lives without developing cancer. In fact, Wesley’s parents are both thriving at 10 years old, demonstrating that longevity and resilience are present in their line. Osteosarcoma in the roof of the mouth is indeed rare in Golden Retrievers, with most cases typically affecting the limbs. When it does occur, it is generally considered an isolated incident rather than a hereditary condition.

Our breeding program prioritizes health, longevity, and character. We pride ourselves on transparency and continually strive to make informed decisions. While we cannot predict every outcome, it’s crucial to remember that individual health varies greatly among dogs.

Retro x Davey babies first adventure to the outdoors!!

These babies are such chunks we needed to get some exercise in!
