Noses secrete mucus. The inner lining of the dog’s nose contains special glands that produce mucus to keep the nasal canals moist. A thin layer of mucus clings to the nostrils, enhancing the absorption of scent chemicals and improving the dog’s ability to smell. The special mucous glands inside the nostrils also produce clear, watery fluid that aids the cooling process through evaporation.

Dogs also lick their noses. Their tongues are long enough to reach their nose ... let's see you try that! Dogs lick their noses to keep them clean, since canine noses get dirty as dogs smell everything. Dogs also lick their noses to gather some of the scent particles inside the mouth.

As the summer months are almost upon us, families are moving around the country to be near family or a new job. This adjustment can be difficult for many dogs. Here are some tips to make the transition easier on you and your family.

Before Your Move
• Before moving day, take time (ideally daily) to practice short training exercises and reinforce basic obedience commands with your dog. This will increase your dog’s focus on you and help your dog feel secure in your presence during and post-moving day.
• Confine your dog in a crate or small, comfortable area of the home during packing and unpacking. Provide stimulation activities and comfort items, like toys and/or bones, to help keep your dog calm and occupied amid all the activity in the house.
• Don’t forget to take breaks and provide your dog with some mental and physical exercise, like a short training session, an on-leash walk, or a fun game.
• If you anticipate a hectic moving day, consider boarding your dog at a comfortable daycare, kennel, or friend or family member’s house. This will not only decrease your dog’s potential for anxiety, but also keep your pet safe.

What does June have in store for us? June has the longest daylight hours of the year in the Northern Hemisphere with the first day of summer coming on June 20.

June is also fireflies, flip flops and Father’s Day. It’s roasting marshmallows by the campfire and taking your pooch for long hikes. In a dog’s world it’s Take Your Dog to Work Day, and Dog Party Day.

Let’s celebrate June by tuning up any bad behaviors that occurred during the Spring. Call your Bark Busters trainer at 877-500-2275.

As the weather heats up, let's keep our furry friends safe and cool! Swipe through for part 1 of our important summer safety tips for your pup.
1. Avoid walking your dog on hot pavement, as it can burn their paw pads. Stick to early morning or late evening walks when temperatures are cooler.
2. Always carry water for your dog during outdoor activities, and offer frequent water breaks to prevent dehydration. Portable water bowls are great for on-the-go hydration.
3. Provide plenty of shade and a cool resting area for your dog when playing outdoors. Avoid leaving them in direct sunlight for extended periods to prevent overheating.
4. Never leave your dog in a parked car, even with the windows cracked. On a hot day temperatures inside a car can quickly become dangerously high, leading to heatstroke.

Ever wonder if your dog will outgrow their destructive behaviour?

It's a common concern among dog owners facing chewed-up shoes, shredded pillows, and gnawed furniture.

While some dogs may naturally mellow with age, destructive behavior often stems from underlying issues. These can include a lack of education about what is appropriate to chew or not chew, boredom, anxiety, and lack of training. Waiting
for your pup to 'grow out of it' can prolong the frustration and damage.

That's where we come in!

Our tailored training programs address the root causes of destructive behaviour, providing practical solutions to help your dog learn appropriate behaviors and channel their energy positively.
