At Paws Up!, we believe in giving back to our community and, as you know, we kicked off our new initiative on June 1st. For every visit we complete, we will be donating a meal to local rescues/shelters. Each quarter we will showcase one shelter or rescue that we will donate the funds to.

Our rescues and shelters are really struggling right now and we all have to work together to help. 🫶🏻

So, where do you come in❓
1) Help us pick the shelters and rescues to receive the donations! We want to gather as many options as we can in the comments on this post, then, later this month, we'll host a vote to pick the first rescue or shelter that will receive the donated funds for that quarter!
2) Book Services with Paws Up! For every walk or visit, a meal will be donated!
3) Refer us to your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers! The more walks and visits we do, the more we can help! 🙌🏻

🐾 Meet Tugs, our happy-go-lucky boy who had the best day ever! 🌟

This handsome 5-year-old started his adventure at Azalea Park, where he was fascinated by the turtles and got in plenty of sniffs. 🐢

Next stop: PetCo, where Tugs made tons of new friends—he’s a people magnet! He soaked up all the attention, treats, and belly rubs.

To top it all off, he enjoyed a delicious pup cup at Starbucks.🍦

Tugs is a strong boy but he settles in quickly on leash, and he’s a perfect passenger in the car (with some extra slobber, but who can resist that face? 😋).

He’s super friendly with everyone he meets and was not reactive to other dogs we encountered. I think he would be a fantastic candidate for a family with older kids or other pets.

If you’re looking for a sweet, well-behaved buddy who’s ready to bring joy to your home, Tugs is your guy! 🏡🐶

This sweet 5-year-old boy had the best day ever on his doggy date with Darcy! 🐾

Pup Cup Party: Domino kicked things off with a delicious pup cup from Starbucks. He was so excited he couldn’t sit still in the car—he just wanted all the love and pets!

Outdoor Adventures: Domino explored Azalea Park, soaking up every moment of fresh air and fun sniffs. He even found a house with a big water bowl just for him!

Downtown Stroll: The smells and sights of downtown Summerville were like paradise for Domino. He could’ve stayed there forever!

Domino is a bundle of joy who loves everyone he meets and would likely do great with kids. He’s looking for a forever home where he can be the only dog and get all the love and attention he deserves. 🐶❤️

How do dog dates work? You come in during business hours (we open everyday at 12pm) and choose a dog to spend the day with or we can recommend one that needs time out of their kennel. You then sign out a dog and head on your way! Some ideas for dog dates are Azalea Park, get a pup cup, head to Magnolia Gardens (passes are limited to 5 per month), and just give them some extra love. We only ask that you do not introduce them to any other animals while you have them. It's as easy as that! 🚨 Meet Pickles! 🚨 This 1.5-year-old cutie had a blast on his doggy date yesterday!

Here’s what we did on our date:

🏞️ Explored Azalea Park, where he got so excited every time he heard kids laughing (he might just be a kid-loving pup!).

🛠️ Checked out Home Depot, where he soaked up all the love from employees and customers.

☕️ Treated himself to a pup cup at Starbucks—he made a bit of a mess but cleaned it all up by the end!

Pickles is full of energy and would thrive with an active family that can keep up with him. He’s also super affectionate and loves people. Could you be his forever home? 🏡❤️

I’ve been trying to decide what to post for Day 6. I honestly had thought it may not even take this many days to garner interest in Auggie! Maybe it’s because I know him - or maybe because people don’t see his foster mom’s social feed – so I’m going to put that in the comments and ask you to follow. Then you’ll see the behind-the-scenes world of “Moonface” as she affectionately refers to him.

Amanda and her dog, Clara, recently moved to Charleston from Tennessee. Amanda is a nurse practitioner and works long days and a varying schedule each week. 📆

She found us on Instagram and called before she moved here to set up a new client consultation for when she and Clara arrived in town. I went to meet them at their new place the next week and we started Clara’s walks the following week.

Amanda loves that we have flexible schedules to suit her ever-changing schedule and that we provide daily reports with photos of our walks and enrichment time with sweet Clara!

We love seeing the excitement on Clara’s face every time we visit! She is always ready for her walk, some porch time, and playtime with our dog walkers. 🐕‍🦺🎾

One of our trained dog walkers will take a shelter dog from Dorchester Paws on a doggy date / field trip to get them out of their kennel for a while.

Did you know that data shows shelter dogs who receive a Doggie Day Out/field trip out of their shelter world can have a higher live release rate? Think about this –

They get out of a kennel and have experiences.

They get out in the community and seen by potential adopters.

They show skills and preferences you can’t see when they are sitting in a concrete cell i.e., kid-friendly, leash manners, loves the water, would make a great jogging partner, etc. Their day-chauffeur can even report whether they like to ride in the car!

What I am so happy to be seeing the last couple of days in local community Facebook groups is how many temporary storm fosters are also posting about their short-term guests! This is AMAZING! I am confident so many of these sweet animals will be adopted because of the kindness and marketing/promo proactivity of you fosters so kudos to you all – you are doing a great thing!

Let’s try to keep it going past storm season if we can?

A single half-day excursion to a park with a shelter dog can be LIFE-CHANGING for them! Posting about a ride for a pup-cup and a walk in the park may literally lead them to their forever home.

Pictured here is Liz, a pro-level Doggie Day Out Master, and Winnie, one of her two adorable personal dogs. Liz and her family take dogs for fun hikes or just some downtime at their home and she then shares photos and videos and recaps the dogs’ experiences on her socials. She fosters for local groups in Northern VA when her dogs and schedule allow that too.

🔔Shelters Open At 8:00 P.M.🔔

In response to Tropical Storm Debby and the potential for historic flooding impacting our area, Dorchester County will open two emergency shelters beginning Monday, August 5, at 8:00 PM.

Residents who live in low-lying or flood-prone areas are strongly advised to follow their emergency plans to relocate. For those unable to leave the area, the designated shelters are:

Charles B. DuBose Middle School
Address: 1005 Dubose School Rd, Summerville, SC 29483

Woodland High School
Address: 4128 US-78, Dorchester, SC 29437

Both shelters are pet-friendly and equipped to support residents during this challenging time.

We were so excited to be interviewed by the Post and Courier last week about our new partnership with Dorchester Paws for Sponsored Doggy Dates!

These doggy dates provide a much needed break from the shelter for homeless dogs and gives us the opportunity to evaluate them and report back to Dorchester Paws so they can be placed with the perfect homes. 🏡

You can volunteer any day between 12 - 4:30 to take a dog out for a date. Just go to the shelter and pick out one of the awesome dogs on campus. Be sure you bring your driver’s license. 🪪

If you’re unable to walk the dogs yourself due to scheduling or physical constraints, Paws Up! would love to take one out on your behalf! Check out our posts from the sponsored doggy dates we’ve done over the last few weeks since we started this partnership.

Is this the most gorgeous boy ever? Chase was found wandering the streets and then picked up by a caring citizen and brought here to CAS where he's been staying ever since. He's a 70-pound baked potato with the most soulful eyes you've ever seen. Chase is pretty good on a leash and has a sweet temperament.
