South County Animal Rescue was established to provide rescue and assistance for domestic animals. Our goal is to significantly reduce the homeless population of domestic animals in South County through safe rescue and adoption services, awareness and education. We strive to establish relationships with other rescue agencies and collaborate to save more lives.

Meet Shadow! 🐾

I am a 4-month-old German Shorthaired Pointer/Boxer mix! I am a very social dog and like meeting new people!

I enjoy morning walks, getting into the dog pool, running after tennis balls, and playing keep away. I respond well to my name and I'm getting better at walking by my handler's side. I am also getting better with my manners. I know how to sit, lie down, come, and stay!

Lately, I have been fascinated by the smallest candy wrappers that are rolling on the ground, and it has been very difficult for me not to run after them! My trainers are helping me work through this. I am a very smart boy, eager to learn! Well, I thank the world for allowing me to share a little bit about me with all of you.

We're so excited to be part of this ghoulish Paws & Pumpkins Fun Run!! 🎃 🐈‍⬛️ 🐕 🎃

A fun, dog-friendly 5K (3.1 miles) and 2K (1.2 miles) race. Both courses are out-and-back routes on paved roads and the scenic San Lorenzo Park River Trail. The 2K route is also stroller-friendly.

Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 3 PM to 5 PM

San Lorenzo Park, King City, CA

Costume Contest: Prizes will be awarded for the best pet costumes, including:
Best Dog/Human Duo Costume
Funniest Dog Costume
Best Overall Dog Costume

Runner Awards: Prizes for the top 3 male and female Youth (17 and Under) and Adult (18 and Older)

Registration fees include a race T-shirt, a finisher medal, and entry into the costume contest.
Fees 5K (3.1 Mile): Adult $30, Youth $15
Fees 2K (1.2 Mile): Adult $20, Youth $15
Note: Registration fees will increase by $10 on October 24th.

This event is a benefit for the Monterey County Agricultural & Rural Life Museum (MCARLM) and South County Animal Rescue (SCAR). Your participation helps support their work in our community.

Post-Race Fun: Stick around after the event! MCARLM's Haunted Hayrides will begin at the museum at 6 PM (this is a separate ticketed event).

Dogs like Summer are often the most unwanted and most difficult to care for. We know her prospects for an adopted home might be far and a long time to come. Still, we believe she deserves a second chance at life.

This right here is what rescue is all about. A big part of our mission is to save the abandoned and abused. We're committed to giving Summer the medical care she needs.

We are a small organization operated entirely by volunteers with a shoestring budget. We welcome your donations to pay for Summer's vet costs.

Our pups had a grand ol'time at the Monterey County Fair today!

We are grateful for our amazing SCAR Animal Champions who took their Sunday to help bring our adoptable pups and spend the afternoon with them.

Come meet Jesse & Breezy at the Monterey County Fair, tomorrow!!

Jesse is a black Chihuahua mix with a white undercoat and Breezy is a Biewer terrier mix. Both are small in size, 8-10lbs. They're searching for some "swifty magic" in Monterey County!

Jesse came in as a scared, emaciated, snappy little dog. Breezy came to us after her owner passed away. They met in foster care and immediately fell for each other. Breezy brought out a playful, happy side of Jesse that had not been seen before!

We know it's a long shot, but we would love these two pups to find a home together! Jesse is almost 2 years old and Breezy is 5 years old. Breezy is a confident little girl who loves to be on the go! Jesse enjoys being her little sidekick! They will certainly entertain you with their standing wrestling matches! Neither is comfortable with being grabbed quickly so an adult household is ideal, with no small children. Neither Jesse nor Breezy is an early bird. They enjoy slow mornings in a more relaxed, retired environment!

Look for our booth at the fair tomorrow between 12pm-4pm to meet Jesse & Breezy!
