It’s a new year and we are starting off with a bang! Our Monterey County Gives Campaign raised $42,619. The final numbers are not it in yet, but this reported amount raised gives us the boost we desperately need to carry us forward into the new year.

We have big plans in 2025, including our annual signature event Pinot for Paws in the summer, a day of traditional English Afternoon Tea in late spring, and a Pet Wellness Community Fair. All in addition to our day-to-day rescue operations where we’ll be focused on growing and learning about the best ways to enhance our efforts, maximizing effectiveness and community impact.

Last year, we soft launched a pilot community education team whose purpose is to increase community awareness about responsible pet ownership, the importance of spay and neuter, and pet health. We also revamped and relaunched our TNR program with a brand-new team. Our partnership with Soledad Correctional Training Facility made TAILS K9 Training Rescue Academy became a reality and has been a huge success. We are so proud of our volunteer Animal Champions.

We have a lot to look forward to in 2025. We invite you to help us grow by sharing about SCAR and our rescue efforts with those in your social and professional networks. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events. Thank you for coming along for the ride!

Get ready for an afternoon of fun & games!
Come on down to the newest hottest spot in King City ... the Rising Phienix Taproom!

Your $35 ticket will get you a pizza, a pint of brew, a couple rounds of Loteria and Bingo. The greatest part of it all is that you'll be supporting SCAR's TNR Team.

LINK IN BIO: get your tickets in advance!

TNR is Trap, Neuter, Return, a prevention strategy to address the overpopulation of feral cats. Our TNR Team safely and humanely traps cats to have them fixed and returned to their colonies. There are times when momma cats are found with kitten litters. In those situations, kittens are young enough for domestic life, and we work to help find them loving homes. There are rare occasions when we find a cat in need of vet care to treat an illness or injury. All of which costs a pretty penny!!

That's where you join forces with us to help do right by the cats who need us most! We look forward to having a great time with you, your friends and family ...four-legged furries included!

Big shout out to for hosting our Game Day Fun-Raiser! 🐾 ❤️ 🍺

Happy New Year!!

It's not too late!! Don't let the sun set on this opportunity to make a big impact on our animal rescue efforts!

😺 Little Whiskers & Big Dreams! 🐶

Our volunteers often provide critical care to the tiniest kitties and pups with little whiskers. We can't help but dream big about the many ways we can better serve our four-legged community. We are volunteer operated, which means that every dollar goes directly to the animals. Your tax-deductible donation is partially matched through the MCGIVES Campaign!

The Big Dreams:
🐾 SNAP: Our spay & neuter assistance program increases access to free and affordable services. Fixing South County community owned pets is the key to preventing undesired litters and reducing the overpopulation of animals.

🐾 TNR: Our Trap, Neuter & Return program covers all South County communities, fixing feral cats and returning them safely to their colonies. Often taking in litters of kittens for adoption to loving families.

🐾 TAILS K9 Rescue Academy: After a successful first year, our partnership with CDCR's Soledad Correctional Training Facility brings an extraordinary dog training curriculum to skilled handlers launching a healing journey for some of the most traumatized dogs that come into our care.

No matter how great or small, your support means the world to us and our SCAR Pets.

Our SCAR TNR Team has made a remarkable difference in the lives of many cats who roam the rural roads of South County communities. Scarlett is one fluffy bundle of joy that was found in King City, severely injured and afraid.

Within a few days, the TNR Team members gained her trust and were able to secure Scarlett. Once in our care, we were able to quickly transport Scarlett to our partner veterinarian at Animal Friends Rescue Project (AFRP).  We were concerned about her prognosis and relieved to learn we stepped up for Scarlett just in time. With no sign of infection or need for amputation - our worst fears! - Scarlett was treated and released for recovery. She is now resting comfortably in one of our foster homes. She might even be young and tame enough to become a fluffy house cat for someone in the near future.

You only have a day left to give! Your donation will be partially matched, stretching your dollar even further. Be part of the solution we bring to ending the overpopulation crisis in Monterey County with spay and neuter services and help us rescue feral cats in need, cats like Scarlett.

Our partnership with TAILS and the Soledad Correctional Training Facility (CTF/CDCR) began a year ago. We are so proud of the tremendous amount of work our team has dedicated to ensure it's success.

TAILS K9 Training Academy pairs a rescue dog with a diad or triad of trainers. Together, they assess for the dog's training needs and work through a 4 month period.
Since our launch, we have served more than 30 dogs, placing them in loving forever homes upon graduation.

The impact TAILS has had in the lives of both trainers, dogs, and adopting families has been phenomenal. Your support will help us transform more lives.

Make a tax deductible donation through Monterey County Gives, and your contribution will be matched.

On this cozy Caturday morning, we introduce you to Peter and Rue! 🐾

Peter and Rue are an adorable bonded pair. Peter is 9 months old, and Rue is 5 months old. Rue was found inside a Sheriff's patrol car when she was about 4 weeks old. They met in foster care, and Peter instantly connected with her. He watches her closely just like a big brother! They enjoy wrestling and napping together.

Rue may seem a bit shy at first, but once held, she'll warm up! Peter is adventurous and friendly, leading the way for Rue! Both are patiently waiting at PetSmart in Salinas for the perfect home. Come by anytime during business hours to meet them!

We hope you are enjoying a wonderful holiday season! Thank you for supporting our amazing TNR Team during our Holiday Pet Portrait event. We had puppies, small ones & big ones, kitties, and even a couple of bunnies!

We’d like to thank all who made this event possible: King City Recreation Center, Andrea Wasson, Forever Sunday, our SCAR TNR Team Belen Alvarez, Shyann Mitchell, Natali Pina and all SCAR Animal Champions who lent a hand throughout the planning and on event day.

Thank you for giving us the chance to capture your pets on camera! May your holiday season be full of laughter, lots of sloppy puppy dog kisses, and kitty cuddles.

All proceeds support our TNR efforts throughout South Monterey County. We believe in the importance of spaying and neutering feral and community cats as a preventative measure. The more cats we are able to fix, the better their lives will be, and there will be fewer litters of kittens we'd need to rescue.

If you missed this opportunity to support SCAR, you can still make a contribution through the Monterey County Gives campaign!

Bella is hoping Santa brings her a forever home for Christmas. 🎅 🏡

She is a super sweet, cuddly girl who loves people, other dogs, and naps on her person’s lap. Bella is about 7 years old and came to SCAR when her family was moving and couldn’t take her with them. Bella is a little “fluffy” and would benefit from regular walks to help her regain her girlish figure.

Weighing in at about 16 pounds, Bella is a cute Chihuahua mix. Bella would love to meet you if you’re looking for a fun, lovable companion.

To adopt Bella, fill out our adoption application online at www.scar.pet

We welcome Barry into our SCAR Family of Pets! 🐾

Barry came to us as a stray through our friends at . He was having trouble standing and walking. Turns out he has a pretty bad facture, and his vet bill is estimated to come in just over $5,000. That's a big chunk of change for a grassroots rescue like SCAR.

So then, why take in a dog with such high medical needs? The best response we can give is: If not us, who?

We know dogs like Barry are otherwise perfect. His fate was euthanasia but we know he deserves the opportunity to live.

Barry is a 6 month old pit bull mix who loves playing with his foster pet siblings and adores his foster mama. He will easily be a great companion to his forever human.

Give your tax deductible donation to help us cover Barry's medical bills and save more dogs like him. When you donate through the Monterey County GIVES Campaign, your contribution goes further because it is partially matched.

It's Caturday...and it's been raining cats & dogs all night!

This is Chloe, our 3.5 month old female tabby, who came to us from an agricultural worksite in King City. She's so cuddly, sweet and purrfect!

Chloe really wants to know if you'll be making a tax-deductible contribution to the efforts that saved her life! What should we tell her?

Give what what's in your heart (and in your wallet 😆), whether it's a $5, $50, or $500 donation, you can count on 100% of it benefiting the animals.

Chloe thanks you!
