SCAR South Monterey County Animal Rescue established for the rescue and fostering of domestic animals. South County Animal Rescue (SCAR) was founded in January 2016.

We wish you a Happy 4th of July!

We also invite you to take these extra steps to prioritize pet safety. Pets don't do well with fireworks, they tend to run away in fear.

What to do if you lose a pet:
✔️ Make sure you have updated photos of your pets.
✔️ Send us a message with details such as a description of your pet, contact information, and the last location seen.
✔️ Call your local animal control and shelter.

If you find a pet:
✔️ Please hold the pet in your care as long as possible.
✔️ Take photos of the pet and send us a message with details such as a description of the pet, location found, and contact information.
✔️ Call your local animal control or take the found pet to the local shelter where the owner can find them.

If you are celebrating with fireworks, please be mindful and stop at bedtime or sooner.

Have you met Zeus??

Here's what his awesome foster momma has to say about him!

Adoptable and adorable - Zeus is about 18 months old and 30 lbs. He’s that elusive “medium-sized dog” that people are always looking for. However, Zeus has only had one application and that gentleman said that Zeus just wasn’t what he was looking for when they met. Zeus holds no grudges and he gave kisses anyhow.

Zeus is active and loves to play with other dogs, go on walks, and accompany you wherever you’re headed. He’s good with all-size dogs but probably would chase cats. He’s also crate- and house-trained.

Welcome Winnie!

She joins the SCAR Family of Pets along with her siblings Phineas, Ferb, Star, and Cali! Our friends at Hitchcock Road Animal Services reached out for rescue help with Winnie.

During her spay surgery, it was found she had body wall damage and needed additional surgery. Lucky for little Winnie that same morning one of our amazing fosters was back from vacation refreshed and ready to help!

Winnie is a 13-week-old pointer mix. She is scheduled for surgery on 7/11 and will be ready for adoption once she has fully healed.

If you'd like to contribute towards Winnie's medical needs, please consider making a donation or buying tickets to our upcoming Pinot for Paws fundraiser.

What is TNR? 😻
Trap. Neuter. Return.

Let's break it down!

TRAP: Cats are caught using humane traps, using food to bait them in, and then we take them to one of our partner veterinary clinics.

NEUTER:
The cats are spayed or neutered (females are spayed and males are neutered).

RETURN:
After recovery, the cats are returned to their original colony location. We assess friendly cats and kittens, who may be adopted out instead.

TNR helps to prevent reproduction, gradually reduces the overpopulation of cats, and improves cat health by reducing the risk of diseases, and eliminating behaviors associated with mating, like roaming, fighting, and spraying.

Happy Stitch Day!!

It's never too late to wish you and our vet own Stitch a super Happy Stitch Day! This sweet boy is doing amazing in his new forever home! He had spent several months in our SCAR Family of Pets receiving unconditional love and round-the-clock medical care from our TAILS team last year. They nursed him back to health and gave him the training and support he needed.

Now he's living his best life and as you can tell, he doesn't miss being in rescue very much. In fact, we hope he's been so deeply loved that he's already forgotten this chapter of his life.

Second chances look like Stitch.
