Well, Mr Calvin might look like a Thoroughbred and might be a year and a half behind his competition- but he sure has heart! We are giving the IRCHA Futurity a whack and I am so excited to see what he decides he can do in the show pen!

💪💪 I leveled this pad over 3 years ago, with the intent of putting in a cutting pen. However, other financial obligations had to come first.
I have slowly been accumulating fencing, and other materials to make it a reality and this weekend, the base went in! 
Hoping to get the back fence up too 🤞
Not sure if it’ll be done in time for the last show for this year - but we will be able to hit the ground running for next season!
So fun to see things taking shape a little by little! And how far this place has come from just bare ground!

🍾🎉 Another great show in the books for team WRC! 🎉🍾

Montana Reined Cowhorse Association put on another great event this year that we were thankful to be a part of.
After some pretty dynamic runs, Yes Sir and I were able to clinch the Open Derby and Intermediate Open Derby Championship with a 151 down the fence and 440.5 composite, adding over 4k to his LTE!

Huge thank you to Redtail Ranch Performance Horses and Jim and Loren for sending me this cool stud to train. I just love him and am so excited about his future!

Celeste and Charlize also had some dynamic runs and both qualified for the boxing shootout Saturday night and made Ellensburg proud! They both left with some significant earnings and left in the money in all their events!

Lexi also had a great first trip to town with her futurity mare and so many positives for their inaugural visit to the cowhorse show pen!

Happiest of birthdays to Regan who couldn’t join us this trip but looking forward to seeing her show at the next one!

Huge thank you to everyone at home for keeping horses going and taken care of! To my dad for spending time with my kids and holding down the house and to Ty for being my personal chauffeur, stall boy (best ever!), and biggest supporter in all things! So thankful he can enjoy this journey with me as a team! 🫶

So excited for the next show in November to close off the year and see everyone efforts come to fruition!

Sometimes it is so easy to get discouraged that your progress may look different than those around you. However, no two stories or journeys are the same.

“A person who makes few mistakes makes little progress.” - Bryant McGill

Same goes for your horses. If you’re always babysitting them and never allow them to make a mistake then they not only never learn to think for themselves but you can quickly take the try out of them.

These two sets of tracks are from two different but very athletic horses.
One can now confidently and consistently stop 24+ feet depending on how fast he is running. The other set of tracks is hard to see as they are maybe 12” long but that horse tried equally as hard, his progress just looks different for his stage in life and what his journey has looked like.

Stop measuring yourself or your horse against others in the arena. Set your own goals in achievable ways and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

I wouldn’t tell myself that I’m going to climb Mount Rainier tomorrow because I know that’s not setting myself up to succeed and wouldn’t be an achievable goal. However, if I told myself, I was going to train to climb Mount Rainier next year, then that gives me an achievable goal to work towards. 

Allow yourself to be proud of yourself and all the progress you’ve made. Especially the progress that no one else can see.

Holy smokes - what a wild couple days!

30 days ago I wasn’t making this trip to Vegas. I didn’t feel prepared and had plenty of other things to be doing! And I was okay with that! While I have an incredible support system at home - having cowhorse family support was also important to me because respect is incredibly important to me. Then with a friendly push from Wade Reaney (thank you, Wade!) to go, I felt some support from the cowhorse community (which is my home base!) to enter up and show my mustang at Southpoint for the Mustang Challenge.
I only had about 90 days on Ol Cinder Block (yes that’s her name - because she wears a size 2 shoe and each foot weighs about 800lbs on a good day) by the time we showed up at the end of last week to try our hand at making the finals - competing against horses with almost a year of training.
We came in 6th in Ranch Riding, 4th in Reining, and thanks to all 86 lope over poles (meaning picking up those feet were vital 😂) in Trail, we were much further down the list. I had kinda lost hope of making the finals - however, we were so far ahead in the first two classes that we made it to the finals!
We had to do another reining pattern before our freestyle and an issue we hadn’t had, all of a sudden, took our pretty darn good pattern into the penalty box. However, our stops and lead changes helped recover some of those lost points and it was on to the Freestyle. I planned an Indiana Jones skit and it was a crowd favorite as well as with the judges. This carried us to Reserve Championship Finish and taking home $20k despite our lead departure faux pas!
I am grateful for the experience- as stressful as it was - totally not my cup of tea- I’ll go down the fence ANY day than do another freestyle! 😂 However, without mustangs, I wouldn’t be in the cowhorse pen, so this was kind of full circle for me!

We made this a family vacation as it was also Emma’s 15th birthday and Eli’s 13th birthday which was so fun and made me wish we didn’t have to make a down and back trip out of it!

Ty - you are my hero! I would never have gotten this done without your constant support and help - even when my lack of planning becomes an emergency 🫢😬🫶 We pulled this off as a team and I can’t thank you enough!

My kiddos - you guys were rock stars! From helping pack props out and back to being troopers for long days in the truck and helping in the barn!

Debbie- thank you for watching my doggos!! I’m sure they won’t want to leave!

McKinley - Thank you for holding down the fort and taking such great care of everything! I know animals are in the best hands!

My mom also made the trip to support us during her busiest season - thanks mom! It was fun to have you there and I know the kids loved having you too!

🎉🏆🥇 Great couple days showing down at the Big Derby for GSSHA!
After a great reining run and the highest fence score of the whole show at a 223.5 RTR Starlight Reys and I had a composite of 649 to clinch the Open Derby and Intermediate Open Derby Championship! Adding almost $5k to his earnings for owners Jim and Loren at Redtail Ranch Performance Horses!

“Little” Calvin had his first debut in the futurity with less than 6 months of riding in his life, competing against horses with a year+ more training. I just wanted to cruise him through all 3 events without too much pressure to keep it positive and he did great! Excited to see what he turns into by the big fall Futurity!
