NO FLEA POLICY
With the weather soon to be warmer, keep an eye out for ticks or fleas. Talk to your vet for a flea preventative. Fleas take the blood from your animal. You can tell a dog has fleas by watching to see if they are biting on their feet, looking for black specks on the dog which are actually blood f***s from the flea or by seeing them on your dog. One flea can drive a dog crazy. We do not treat for fleas in this salon. Our policy is to check for fleas before your dog enters the salon. While, some grooming salons may do flea baths, we simply cannot take the chance of a flea getting on another dog in this salon. If your dog has fleas, please contact your veterinarian for the appropriate treatment to get rid of them. Remember to treat your home, including the pets bedding and your vehicle interior for fleas. They jump everywhere off of a pet. So, we will always do a flea check for you before you enter the salon. If your dog does have fleas we will have to reschedule your dog grooming appointment after they have been treated and cleared by a veterinarian.

CHECK YOUR PETS COLLAR
Reminder to check your pets collar to make sure it is not embedded into the neck nor too loose that the dog can slip out of it and take off or become missing. You should be able to slip a finger between the collar and the neck. When transporting between areas, it may be a good idea to have a slip lead in addition to the collar and lead as an extra precaution. Although you may think your dog would not run, a dog can become spooked easily by anything and panic and jolt. Just an extra safety precaution to keep in mind. We are all about safety here.

PET EVALUATION
Reminder to check your pet for hair on the pads of feet. The surface is slippery for them if they are walking on their overgrown hair. If the pads are overgrown, between the toes will most likely also have knots. Check the nails to be sure they are clipped and not growing into the feet. Be aware of the dew claw up from the nails on the side of the leg. Not all dogs have dew claws and they may also be found on the hind legs. We do mobile nail clips in most areas during the month also if you only need nails done. Nails should be done once a month or once every 2 months. If the nails are left go, the quicks will get longer and longer and it will be harder to get the nails shortened to a desired length. Check behind the ears for bumps as this area may also become matted. Check the underneath where they urinate to be sure there is no blockage or mats. You do not want matted soiled hair lying against their skin. Check the bottom for clearance. Most of this area should be cleared out so there is no blockage. Dogs have glands in this area so take notice to any unusual looking swelling. Check the eyes to be sure they look clear and there is no matting around the eyes. This area will be sore underneath mats. Check the ears. The ears should be a pale pink with a pale gray tint. If the ears are red and irritated, it is time to see a vet. If you notice a smell from the ears, it is time to see a vet. Check the teeth, if they do not look good or you notice a smell, it is time to see a vet. It is good to check weekly or as much as you can so you can catch any problems early. Pay attention to the food you are feeding them. They have dog food review websites. Pay attention to any recalls on food. If your dog has a matted pelted coat, it is probably about that time to get them groomed. We do complete shave downs for pelted or matted coats as it is impossible to get the mats out after a certain stage.
