July is almost here, and we have two great fundraisers planned!

July 8th from 11a-8p stop by Don & Millies at 84th & Q, where 10% of the orders will go to the rescue! This fundraiser will go towards our 16th parvo puppy intake in 6 months.

But we aren't done yet. Join us as we pawty with the dogs at the DOG wash-foam party!

July 28 from 2-5pm, we will be hanging out at Full Fledged Brewing Company treating the dogs to FREEWILL donation dog baths, nail trims, and playing in the foam! Joining us will be DogGurt AND Jimmy's Hot Dog Cart.

Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"

"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."

"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."

"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."

In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***

As temperatures rise, it's important to keep our pets safe! Did you know dogs only have sweat glands on their paws and release heat primarily by panting?

These hot summer days make our pets vulnerable for illnesses and injuries like dehydration, heat stroke, and burns.

Types of dogs who need to take extra precautions when venturing outdoors include brachycephalic dogs (Pugs, Boston terriers, French bulldogs, English bulldogs, etc.), dogs with thick fur coats, overweight dogs, senior dogs, dogs with heart disease, and puppies.

Make sure you choose early mornings or late evenings rather than walking in the middle of the day. Check the temperature of the pavement by resting your hand for 7 seconds. If you're uncomfortable, wait to walk your pet until the pavement has cooled. In 77 degree weather, pavement can reach 125 degrees. This can burn your dogs paw pads in less than 1 minute!

Keep your pets indoors when you go out and never leave your pet alone in a parked vehicle. June-August are the deadliest months for hot car deaths, all of which can be prevented!

Keep an eye out for heat stroke. Symptoms include: excessive panting, increased heart and respiratory rate, lethargy, stumbling, dark or bright red gums and tongue. If you suspect your pet has had heat stroke, take them into the vet immediately.
