Our thanks to Animal Care of Davis County who included us in their vaccine event today. They vaccinated close to 200 pets and we distributed about 1,500 pounds of food. Special thanks to Debbie for volunteering today and loading hundreds of pounds of dog food in the pouring rain! We appreciate you!

It’s been an exhausting and emotional day here in California. The response from the public for donated supplies for the animals coming in to shelters in the fire-affected areas is nothing short of overwhelming. The dedicated and committed staff at the Agoura Hills Shelter are the most incredible people!!! We were in tears as they took the time to visit with us, invited us to tour their spacious and envious shelter space, show us the dozens and dozens of displaced animals in their care, and offer us a meal they had waiting for us.

The dogs with red cards are displaced/lost due to the fires. All cats, tortoises, pigs, the llama, and all goats and sheep in the photos are fire victims. People in the lobby were crying and grief-stricken looking for lost pets or in dire need of pet supplies. Luckily, no animal at this shelter has any injuries from the fires.

Our hotel is completely sold out. There are dozens of first responders staying here and their emergency vehicles are parked everywhere. The family in line next to us at the hotel lost everything. It is palpable, it is heartbreaking, and their sense of shock is crushing to witness. Despite it all, the volunteers and everyone we’ve met have been the kindest, most empathetic, and helpful humans. Being here has restored my faith in the innate goodness of people.

Thank you, beautiful people of Utah. The picture of assorted supplies was collected in a mere 72 hours! That’s all we had to make this happen. We also donated $1,500 to the Agoura Hills Shelter Medical Fund to treat animals from the fires.

From the bottom of our hearts: Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. Rest assured the supplies we delivered were very appreciated and had been completely sorted and inventoried for dissemination by the time we left.

My thanks to Amy, Tracy, Brian, and the other volunteers holding the fort down at home. They will host our regular pet food outreach at Pioneer Park on January 19th from 12-1 pm.
