Not uncommon to get skulls with sticks wedged between the molars like what happened with this bobcat. I think I see it too often to be a “natural” phenomenon…more likely occurs when an animal gets caught in a trap and tries to chew its way out.

Yesterday I had two packages arrive that were shipped on January 2nd. Needless to say they were quite nasty after 27 days in transit! Fortunately dermestid beetles don't care how rotten meat is and will have the skulls cleaned within a few days. Pictures are from my three colonies which are working on a wolf and two of the wolverines from that shipment.

Beetle colony with a fresh coyote skull. Also misted the colony with water. The beetles get really active when you mist the colony with a spray bottle. When the humidity is really low in the winter I often do this to give them a little extra moisture (I mostly mist the skulls and the side of the enclosure). Otherwise it’s best to keep their bedding draw. #skull #dermestidbeetles #taxidermy #europeanmounts
