Wisco Fluffle Retired Animal Assisted Therapy Bun Hope Nadine and her house rabbit bros

29/07/2020

After Zen's passing last fall, I'm very sad to announce that Vander passed away on July 4th. Due to ongoing concerns for Hope's health, I will not be continuing with animal assisted therapy at this time. I really hope you come see me at my new clinic Reflections Mental Health, LLC and on Instagram . My business partner and I are so excited to continue with EMDR, IATP-C, SMART, and other interventions for your family. -Beckie / Rebecca Mahan-Strupp S.C. - LPC

While surprising a loved one with a rabbit seems like the perfect way to celebrate Easter, a real rabbit isn’t a great impulsive purchase. Here are some reasons to choose a chocolate rabbit for Easter instead. https://okt.to/5Ombuw

Came home to an unexpected treat for the hoppers from at Brown's. Great to see a treat option to add to their foraging! Please remember to treat anything with high amounts of herbs, alfalfa, and other legumes as a snack used only sparingly!

It's with a heavy heart that I announce that Zen suddenly passed over the rainbow bridge earlier this week. I will miss his tricks, chill, mischief, and zest for all things treats. Our family is heaping love on Hope; losing a bond mate can be confusing and painful. We had such a short time to love him, and appreciate all of the Westside Zen Den clients that missed him and asked about him over the last few months. Binky free sweetheart. 🌈❤️🐇

It was a tough day for the kiddos. Zen had a relapse over the weekend, but the cause of his issues is still unknown, despite copious amounts of testing, and he had a rough response to a procedure. Off to UW tomorrow morning for more extensive imaging; their ultrasound was booked today.

If you've ever thought about a house bun, consider these two kiddos! They've been in foster for over 2 years, likely because they are black in color, and are shy and mellow. They really could use a home that could give them some x-pen space or free roam, and the ability to be loved for who they are - they might not be trick snuggle buns, but they'll enjoy patience and toys. I'm so sad we don't have the space. I'm always happy to discuss the needs of house bunnies!

Zen has been enjoying some well-deserved rest after a bout of stasis and an unidentified liver problem over the past few several weeks. We'll be trying treatment options and monitoring him over fall. The twins love the office, but bonded bunnies need to be kept together, so Hope also has some time off from the office.

Everybunny at GLRS is wishing you a wonderful independence day! 🎉

Although fireworks are pretty, they're very scary for our furry friends, wildlife, and even some of our neighbors, as well as damaging to our environment. Be careful, safe, and mindful this holiday weekend!

The fluffle is working on their novice trick titles! Zen is zipping through things. Check out his learning to jump over something! Admittedly, there was a lot of stick chewing, and we'll definitely increase height! 😁

Continuing on our bunny body language topic, here is an awesome guide from The Rabbit House on ways to help know what your rabbit is feeling! This can help us better understand how they feel about our interactions with them. When we understand our pets better, we can make decisions to reduce stress, enhancing welfare. When we know better, we can do better!

Remember that rabbits are NOT Easter accessories! Many sellers this time of year sell babies weeks too young; some even color them with food dye. Baby rabbits are a LOT of work. Rabbits are a 10+ year commitment that come with a lot of time and costs that are more than my cats and dogs - they're not great for children, and they aren't "starter" pets because they are fragile and have specific needs. They need space, not hutches. They face serious health and behavior problems if they aren't fixed. They need unlimited hay, which is costly from pet stores, or requires local contacts and storage space. They need an exotic veterinarian. They need a large amount of specific greens EVERY day, which adds up quickly. They don't usually like to be held, and can be slow to warm up to people. They need daily attention. They need training. Many of the rabbits toys, treats, and cages sold in pet stores are unhealthy and/or unsafe. They're messy, even with litter box training, and your household requires major rabbit proofing, permanently. They require frequent grooming. Rescues are swamped with abandoned rabbits a few weeks after Easter every year. If you really think a rabbit is a good fit for your home, after you've done your research, check your local rabbit specific rescues.
