While on the pet aisle at WalMart, I found the treats I was after for all my critters...There was a foriegn gentleman next to me. I told him, "My parrots love these!" He frowned and said, "You should not feed those to your parents!".

The breeding season of skunks begins late in February when adult females mate.
Skunks are polygynous, meaning successful males may mate with additional females.
Males will roam over 2 miles searching for girls!! If you see a skunk in the daytime don’t be alarmed. It is probably just an amorous fella looking for love or an irritated female getting away from overly exuberant suitors!!

Did you know that raccoons do not wash their food? They wet it, there's a difference. It turns out that their dexterous forepaws are covered in tiny sensory spikes and the density of pressure sensitive cells on their paws are about 5 times of most mammals. Humans and other primates match them in this respect. Their brains are wired such that nearly 2/3 of their cerebral cortex's sensory perception is devoted to touch. So when raccoons wet their food and submerge their paws those sensory spikes on the paws soften and become more sensitive making them feel the surface even better. The raccoon is seeing with its paws. Even long periods in cold water does not reduce this sensitivity. This helps them find food in aquatic and muddy conditions with diminished visibility. It also lets them see food with their paws while keeping an eye out for predators. Raccoons are very smart and adapt well to new situations. If you put something down that a raccoon has never encountered before it doesn't shy away from it. Its first inclination is to grab it and investigate!

If I ever post that I've hit the gym, it's only because
I lost control of my car.

I have seen a post warning folks about coyotes being dangerous during their mating season. This post is a huge pile of superstitious idiocy. These same kind of stories have put wolves in danger in the past. Look what has happened to the pit bull!! People spreading total ignorance is harmful!! We have lived thousands of years with coyotes and they haven't slaughtered your family in their sleep yet!! Don't fall for this harmful rhetoric. Have some sense... and please, when you see this post, refute it.

Our Story

A 501c3 non profit organization located in Deep East Texas in the Piney Woods close to the Louisiana border, just outside the tiny town of Cushing. My name is Chris Cross and I am the only person that cares for over 100 animals. I fund most of this out of my own pocket so I depend on your donations to save lives. RRRAR Inc. is mainly a wildlife refuge. A place for wildlife to be safe and run free. I am a retired wildlife rehabber, and vet tech. But I also rescue at risk Great Danes, foster for the local shelters and raise bottle kittens. There have been a lot of exotic critters come to the refuge... from parrots, rheas, wolves, big cats, to even a buffalo!! Ecclesiastes 3:19 For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.
