Recall

This is Leo, one my board and train pups. When working on the recall behavior ensure to set the dog up for success. Start with the pup on a leash with no distractions. As the pup improves you can allow distractions and/or distance to be added. Be patient! Never allow your dog off leash outdoors unless you have taught and proofed the recall behavior.

Place behavior

The two dogs in the video are past graduates, from different owners, of my board and train program. Having a dog with a strong place command is a great benefit for the pup and the owners.

Quincey is back for a visit!

Quincy, the 8 month old Great Dane is back for a short visit while his owners are on vacation. Such a great dog!

Teach your pup a rock solid stay with a “place” command.

When first teaching a dog to “Stay”, start with the dog on an object “Place” . Then slowly increase distance and duration. Having the dog with a foundation of “place” gives the pup a defined area to “stay”. This is typically easier for the pup than trying to get the pup to stay when not on an object. Once the pup has a good idea of remaining on place as you walk away, then try it with the pup off of “place”. This is now usually much easier for the pup to grasp as you walk away.

River, The German Shepherd mix, is back for a couple of days while her owners are out of town. River completed my board and train program over two years ago. Such a good girl!!

Zina is back!

Zina, the Mastiff, went through my board and train program about 7-8 months ago. I picked her up earlier today for a short stay while her owners are out of town for the weekend. It’s such a blessing to have customers that love their dog and are committed to the dog’s lifelong success!!

Recall

Remi, The Lab pup, is one of my board and train students this month. Recall is one of the most important behaviors you can teach your pup. I encourage every dog owner to teach and constantly work on recall. It may save your dogs life!

Hopper, a pup I trained about a year ago, is back for the weekend while his owners are out of town. Such a good boy!!

Maple, a pup I trained well over a year ago is back for a short stay, while her owners are on vacation. Her basic off leash skills are still great which demonstrates her owners commitment to Maple and having a well mannered pup! This just reinforces the old dog trainer saying of “How you live with your dog is how your dog is going to live with you.” Gotta love great owners and great dogs!!
