In 1421 AD, a flood swept through the Netherlands, submerging 72 villages and drowning between 2,000 & 10,000 people.
Survivors saw a piece of wood floating on the water, and a cat was jumping back and forth on it.

People wanted to save it, but they were surprised to find a child sleeping peacefully. The cat was alternately jumping on the edges of the bed to maintain its balance so that the child would not drown.

This story was very famous in the Netherlands, and 4 centuries later the event was immortalized in the painting “The Inundation of The Biesbosch in 1421” by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema.

This story is the origin of the wording “the cat’s in the craddle”
The baby was named Beatrijs / Beatrix when she was found, which means “the bringer of good luck / joy” but also “the lucky one”
Although nowadays it’s not a commonly known story in majority of The Netherlands anymore, it is known to those who grew up in the Biesbosch area.

I got these cute little cat bowls from Walmart for $4 each. Now everyone has a bowl and there's no fighting. Right? Except on Friday night they started playing musical bowls. "This one is my food, and this one is my food too." There's more than enough for all of them.

When Gemma was a baby, if I put her down for 30 seconds to go to the bathroom, she'd start screaming like she'd been abandoned. Now, If I even try to pick her up, I'm infringing on her civil liberties. And while Noel was a bit more ndependent as a kitten, he's just as bad, and he's got this lawyer on speed dial!

He may act like a goof ball, but Noel is really, really smart. Most cats have a human vocabulary of about 300 words. I'm pretty sure he knows more. The other night, something was beeping, and I couldn't track it down or figure out what it was.

"What's beeping?" I asked him. "I know you know because you're a nosey little bu**er and have to check everything out."

He went and lay down on a pillow on the bed. I checked underneath and there was my phone, beeping, because the battery was going and it wanted to be plugged in. See, I knew he knew.
