I am not required to give you a refund if you adopt from me.

Generally, as a rescue organization, you should not give adoption refunds, as the adoption fee is considered a donation towards the animal's care and is not meant to be a "purchase price" with a guarantee of compatibility; most rescues will have policies stating that adoption fees are non-refundable.
Key points to consider:

Purpose of Adoption Fees:
The primary purpose of an adoption fee is to cover the costs of veterinary care, food, shelter, and other expenses incurred while caring for the animal before adoption.

Unpredictable Behavior:
Animals can exhibit unexpected behaviors once in a new home, making it impossible for a rescue to fully guarantee a perfect match.
Ethical Concerns:
Offering refunds could discourage people from fully committing to the adoption process and could lead to more animals being returned if issues arise.

Alternative approaches to consider:

Trial Period:
Many rescues offer a short "trial period" where adopters can return the animal if it is not a good fit, but usually without a refund.

Foster-to-Adopt:
Allow potential adopters to foster an animal for a period before committing to a full adoption, giving them a better understanding of the animal's personality.
Rehoming Assistance:
If someone can no longer keep an adopted animal, offer support in finding a new suitable home, but do not provide a refund.

The head tilt that says they just might understand, wet-nosed kisses, puppy breath, no matter your mood, that tail-wagging greeting that's proof that unconditional love does exist, and bad days aren't that bad.

I mean come on! Don't you want a cute little bunny to do this in your home? They are so dang adorable. They have so many benefits. They can fertilize your garden. Eat left over veggies in the fridge. They are HIGHLY entertaining. They help with anxiety and depression. They use a litter box in this state that's better than taking a dog out in a hurricane. And it's endless laughter.
