In August we received a plea from a member of the public about a small kitten that had been thrown from or hit by a car. We discovered that she had a badly broken leg and was severely underweight. We rushed her to our veterinarian, who was able to save her leg by holding her broken femur together with a pin. She went home to a foster for special care during her recovery. We named her Adira, meaning strong, noble & mighty in Hebrew. In September, her pin was removed and she had gained weight under our foster’s gentle care. She became a happy, playful little kitten, and was adopted soon after!
We help as many urgent medical cases like these as we can, but they are expensive and stretch our resources thin. You can help us take on more of them in 2025 by donating to our Giving Season fundraiser, and better yet-- your donation will be doubled!

We just spent the past 2 days rescuing 20 cats from an overpopulation situation just north of our shelter. There were a total of about 40 cats and this 20 will come close to us finishing it up. Taking on these situations is very expensive and time consuming and could have been easily prevented with early spay/neuter.
PLEASE, if you are feeding any cats, make sure they are fixed, even if they are stray or feral. One female cat can produce up to 24 kittens in one year! And one female and one male and their offspring can produce 420,000 cats over a 7 year period! 😱 SAAF Spay Neuter Clinic, Humane Society of Southwest Missouri, and Rescue One Clinic are great resources for low-cost services.
