REAR VIEW: HAVE YOU LOOKED UNDER YOUR DOG’S TAIL LATELY?

Sounds crazy but HAVE YOU LOOKED UNDER YOUR DOG’S TAIL LATELY?
I ask because it’s hot, it’s summer, and this is a place where flies like to lay their eggs. Why? Because sometimes there is a bit of p**p there and if allowed to stay, maggots take over.
This is not uncommon in long haired dogs such as Collies or Goldens, or in older dogs that may have a bit of arthritis and not be able to clean themselves as they used to.
Outdoor cats have this problem too especially if they have had an abscess due to a bite wound.
Another place to check is behind the ears especially in long-haired dogs. Ear mats can develop in a day!
Please don’t try and use scissors in this area—the skin is thin and very vascular and even the slightest nick of scissors will cause a lot of bleeding. You can purchase an inexpensive pair of rechargeable clippers that are quiet and really do the trick!
As always, to get your pet used to the noise of the clippers, turn them on and allow the pet to check them out before using them around the head/face. Clippers are great for the underside of the tail and hair down the back legs which should be kept short in the summer.

Our Story
Since I was a child I’ve had at least one dog or cat, most of the time both. I love working with pets and being surrounded by so much love. I’m excited that I have discovered so many ‘pawsome’ services that many pet parents may not be aware of. It is my mission to share the people and their services to pet parents so they are aware of options that are available in the Huntsville/Madison area.
So how did I get started? I started my house and pet sitting business to honor Willow, my rescue dog who was a puppy mill survivor. She had been kept in a cage and no telling how many babies she'd had. She had almost no teeth from trying to chew herself out of a crate. When I had to leave her she suffered terribly when boarded and it took a long time for her to calm down and settle back in when I brought her home. When I had Willow it would have helped her adjust to my being out of town if I'd had someone who could come to the house where she would feel safe in familiar surroundings. After she was gone, I decided to offer in home sitting services so other dogs, and their owners, would have peace of mind. Every good dog deserves a Pet Nana.
Now I’m delighted that my mission to help pets has expanded to include so much more. t provide nutrition counseling to help pet parents customize a nutrition plan that is specific to each pets individual needs. I am excited to offer premium pet food & nutrition solutions for pets and their people to help the entire family live a happier, healthier life.
