As the temperature rises owners of fur bearing breeds begin to realize their pets are hot. Mistakenly, many think that clipping these breeds down will help them be cooler. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
This time of year it's common to see these breeds 'blowing coat', meaning that massive amounts of undercoat are shed out at once. However, clipping is not the answer. Instead your professional groomer can remove that crazy amount of undercoat and help keep it in check year round.
This allows the coat to properly perform it's job of keeping the body cooler. The attached undercoat works like insulation keeping cooler air near the body while the guard coat reflects heat away. But when loose undercoat is not properly removed it impedes the coat from doing it's task.
Professional groomers provide so much more than a haircut. Talk to your groomer about booking an appointment for your fur bearing breed to keep them comfortable year round!

An important message for everyone who works with dogs, when faced with challenging behaviour.

'Naughty' dogs don't actually exist, just behaviours.
Behaviours stem from emotions and feelings and the only way to change a behaviour is to get to the root cause and use positive reinforcement and training to try to change the emotion.

To be 'naughty' a dog would need to pre meditate it's behaviour. Dogs can't do that, they just react in the moment. Whether it's from fear, anxiety, stress, frustration, learnt behaviour, hormones, bad experiences, fear periods, pain, genetics... There's a lot that can affect a dogs behaviour.

The thing that I'll never do, EVER, is just restrain a dog from every angle to get the job done. How would you feel if you were faced with your greatest phobia and just forced to endure it...

I love this quote. Its a good reminder when grooming a dog that is struggling.

I am a dog lover first, a groomer second and believe that dogs can have a positive grooming experience. I am Chattanooga’s first Fear Free Certified Groomer and practice force free methods while helping your dog look it's best.

I provide mobile grooming services to Chattanooga, TN and surrounding areas. The reason I chose mobile grooming is because I enjoy working one-on-one with each dog and believe that it creates a calming atmosphere, without the noise and distractions of a busy salon environment. I work closely with ABC Certified Dog trainers to better understand a dog's behavior and how to gain their trust to ensure a stress-free grooming experience for your dog.
