🚨 Raffle Fundraiser for Veterinary Bills 🚨

Our rescue is currently facing ongoing and unexpected veterinary costs - from Liam’s hospital visit, Lifers needing ultrasounds, new medical cases coming in daily, and ongoing FIP treatment. These expenses add up quickly, and we are consistently relying on fundraising efforts to continue giving these animals the care they need.

We’ve been quietly working on a HUGE colony of friendly cats in Waterbury. So far, fourteen of these cats (there may be as many as 30-40) have come to HHR.

All fourteen have seen our veterinarians. All have received their initial vaccines and most have been spayed/neutered. The rest will go next week for surgery. What we DIDN’T expect was for FIVE of them to test positive for feline leukemia (FeLV).

What does this mean? As one of the only rescues in CT that DOESN’T euthanize FeLV+ cats, it means we will need to rearrange a lot of things at HHR in order to provide them a forever home. It’s not as simple as just adding five new faces to our already packed FeLV cottage.

In addition, all of the cats exposed to these boys (their colony mates- this group is separated from the other cats here at HHR), as well as any newcomers we take from the colony, will need to be retested 8-12 weeks after their initial tests. It’s the responsible thing to do before posting the “negatives” for adoption.

FeLV doesn’t scare us. We’re committed to every cat we take into HHR- no matter their “status” or medical issues. But we need some help. Their care isn’t cheap. Food and litter aren’t cheap. And these 14 are only part of the 32 cats HHR has taken in since April 1st.

Karter is one of our cats from last year’s hoarding case, and he has been diagnosed with FIP. If you have been following our FIP cases over the past couple of years, you know we have successfully treated them, but it comes with a significant cost.

We are working to raise $2,000 to cover his treatment.

Karter came into our care as a newborn. He has his whole life ahead of him, and because we caught this early, he has a real chance. Not every cat gets that opportunity.
