When Nugget came in with his mom, he was still nursing, sick and very fragile. Honestly, the odds weren’t in his favor—we weren’t sure he’d make it. But through constant monitoring, hand feeding, and care, our Founder kept him going. That’s the kind of work happening here every single day.

She’s the one making sure animals like Nugget survive, while also juggling vet appointments, treatments, and the daily needs of so many others. It takes a toll—financially and emotionally.

Nugget’s survival is a reminder of why this work matters, but also why we need support. Every animal here comes with a cost, and we can’t keep doing this alone.

📣PSA from Our Rescue :

It’s hard to keep up with updates when it’s hard to keep up with everything in general. The reality is, just getting posts up can be a struggle—let alone answering every reply. Our rescue is run entirely by volunteers—every single one of us has jobs, families, and responsibilities outside of rescue work.

Our Founder carries the greatest load: she single-handedly cares for hundreds of animals every day, manages the rescue’s funding, and still works on top of it all. Volunteers do come in on some days, but not every day, which makes the daily responsibility even heavier. Sleep is rare, and the weight on her shoulders is unimaginable.

So when you don’t see frequent updates, comments, or posts, please know it’s not because we don’t care, don’t appreciate donations, or are ungrateful—it’s because we’re doing everything we can just to keep the animals cared for. Sometimes survival mode takes over, when what we really need is more posts and more engagement. We’re often drowning and trying to keep our heads above water while being everywhere at once.

We truly appreciate your patience, understanding, and support.

🚨 Maverick update! 🚨

We can’t say for sure what happened- maybe sibling rivalry, maybe a scuffle with the pigs, maybe something broken on a fence that we haven’t found yet- but Maverick needed emergency surgery last night.

His amazing medical team met us at the hospital (on a holiday and after hours) to save his life. We are eternally grateful for all of our veterinary teams who go above and beyond for our animals every day. Without them, so many animals would not be saved.

NOW we need to cover the costs of Maverick’s emergency surgery and follow up care. His doctors will be out every couple of days to check on the drains and make sure things are healing appropriately.

Just over three weeks away!

We recently learned about an issue with the online site for tickets prompting buyer to pay extra fees to betterworld! There IS the option to opt out- that extra fee has nothing to do with HHR and we do not benefit. However, it can be tricky to find.

We are working diligently to resolve this so PLEASE be patient with us.

In the interim, tickets can be purchased using Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, or credit card over the phone. Please just reach out and we will make it work!

We need to sell tickets ASAP as we need to pay for the facility one week before the event. We hope to see you all there!!

I'm housetrained and crate trained. I am good with other dogs, NO cats because I will chase them. NO small children due to my breed, but I’m okay with older children.

I was rescued from Wethersfield Animal Control and I was tested positive for Heartworm. I was treated for Heartworm and now I tested negative so now I'm ready for my forever home. I'm a good girl and I absolutely love car rides!

🐖🌱 Labor Day with Penny - PLEASE DONATE 🌱🐖

Labor Day might be a holiday, but for us there’s no such thing as a day off. Penny the pig still needs her meals, her space cared for, and her daily attention — just like the terminally ill cats and every other animal who depends on us.

We are a rescue first — taking in the sick, the abandoned, and the ones with nowhere else to go. And because some of those animals happen to be livestock, we’ve also become a sanctuary for them. Penny is living proof of that.

Rescue work is 24/7. There’s no pause button for medical care, feeding, cleaning, or comfort. The truth is: money doesn’t fall from trees, and every vet bill, bag of feed, and medication depends on donations.

On this Labor Day, while many are resting, we’re still working — because they need us.
