I offer in-home visits offering the highest quality veterinary care to dogs and cats in the comfort of their home. Veterinary medicine is not just something I do, its apart of who I am. I feel so blessed to be able to offer this unique service to our pet-friendly community. The Core Values for Charleston Veterinary House Calls are to offer personalized, comprehensive examinations while focusing on

goal-directed, veterinary care and support. This type of service helps to ensure a stress-free environment that allows your pet to be comfortable and cooperative with veterinary intervention. I plan to uphold the highest standard of care making sure there is continuity of care with other veterinarians that are involved in the companion’s care including general practitioners and specialists. I am confident that my veterinary knowledge, skills and professionalism will allow me to gain the trust of my clients ensuring the best veterinary care is provided. By educating clients on their companion’s health, providing multiple options of short-term and long-term care, and maintaining a healthy Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship, my priority is to ensure always that we are all committed to the same goals of veterinary care. Charleston Veterinary House Calls will offer comprehensive examinations specifically pertaining to the pet’s life stages such as Pediatric, Wellness and Geriatric. In contrast to many general veterinary practices where a twenty-minute office visit/physical exam fits with their setup, my services will include specific consultations lasting from 20 minutes to 90 minutes based on the needs of the companion and their caretaker. These include consultations on Quality of Life, Hospice and Palliative Care, Internal Medicine, Allergies, Behavior and Nutrition. I will also be offering routine services such as lifestyle consultation for vaccinations, full laboratory services through Idexx, abdominal ultrasound, at-home delivery of prescription medications, and compassionate in-home euthanasias. I can offer a variety of services while meeting the client’s need of convenience and supporting stress-free visits for both the companion and caretaker. I believe a more relaxed environment allows for a stronger bond of the Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship and ultimately better care for my patients. Visits are limited to non-emergency visits and minor injuries. Sick visits are offered; however, treatment options are limited. This is where I will rely on clients maintaining a relationship with a local veterinary practice and/or emergency and specialty hospitals to provide further diagnostics like X-rays and surgical procedures, hospitalizations. We are now fortunate to have three 24 hour Emergency facilities - Charleston Veterinary Referral Center in West Ashley and Veterinary Specialty Care in Mt. Pleasant and Summerville. I will work closely with other veterinarians as well to provide my patients with the best care possible. I am so very grateful for any referrals for those in need of in-home care for their pet. The growth and success of this practice depends on my clients and I can't do it without them sharing my practice with others. I will be serving mostly the greater Charleston Area but will happily extend my scope within 20 miles of Charleston. My fees will be based on the scope of the examination and the travel distance to your home. I do not have a fee list posted on my website but I will gladly give you an estimate upon request. We are on Facebook and Instagram as well. So excited to connect with you in whatever way works best for communication. Plus social media is such a fun way to celebrate our love for our fur babies and to connect with others in our community. My appointment hours are as follows:
Monday 10 am-5 pm
Tuesday 10 am- 1 pm
Wednesday- Closed
Thursday 10 am-1 pm
Friday 10 am - 1 pm
Saturday Closed
Sunday Closed

I look forward to serving the needs of my clients and their companions. Please call or message me anytime to setup a new client/pet consultation. You can reach me through my website www.Charlestonvhc.com.

Easter and Mother's Day are two of the most dangerous holidays for cats for one reason: lily poisoning. 💐

As a part of our No Lilies for Kitties educational campaign, we're kicking off the series by sharing which species of lilies are toxic to cats. True lilies (Lilium species) and daylilies (Hemerocallis species) are extremely toxic to cats and can potentially cause severe kidney failure. Check out the graphic below for examples, and visit the link below to learn more:

Updated post on Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex ( CIRDC). Good news - nothing new to report. No known outbreaks in our area - no new emerging virus or bacteria. Just increase slight increase in reported cases of pneumonia in some areas of the country like Colorado, Oregon. Likely due to increases in dog ownership during Covid, doggie daycare attendance dropped during Covid, decrease in vaccines over Covid etc. Read more for details.

Summary: As of early December, cases of canine infectious respiratory disease complex (CIRDC) have been seen by veterinarians in multiple states. While nationwide numbers are not known, Colorado, New Hampshire, and Oregon officials are working with state and federal veterinary diagnostic laboratorie...

So here’s an article to discuss the emerging concern of an increase in cases of respiratory diseases and this possibility of a new emerging respiratory bacteria. I think it’s important to discuss what we do understand about CIRDC ( Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex). Here is one article that gives some perspective that I agree with - we are likely seeing an increase in respiratory diseases and the media is exploiting the evidence which can exacerbate the issue and produce unnecessary fear. There is a study in New Hampshire looking at unidentified bacteria ( similar to Mycoplasma) that they think could be causing this emerging respiratory disease https://colsa.unh.edu/new-hampshire-veterinary-diagnostic-laboratory/canine-respiratory-outbreak

I do think there are some simple action steps to address any concerns about your pet’s health and risk of respiratory diseases
1. Time to do a consultation with your veterinarian.
2. Update core vaccines and other respiratory immunizations such as Bordetella and Canine Influenza ( if available).
3. Don’t google too much - remember reach out to your vet and have a discussion on what we do know and get an action plan ahead of time.
4. Consider alternatives to highly populated doggie daycare facilities and boarding facilities if you live in an area with increased report of respiratory diseases spreading.
5. Go back to the basics- healthy diet, good hydration, support the immune system, and avoid sick pets ( some dogs can shed Bordetella days after symptoms like a cough stops).

Here’s an article that can give some insight - https://www.wormsandgermsblog.com/2023/11/articles/animals/dogs/respiratory-disease-in-dogs-sweeping-across-the-us-outbreak-of-disease-or-media-attention/

Tis’ the season 🎄 Be aware of these holiday threats. Save these contacts in case your pet ingests or is exposed to any of these food, plants or toxins. Pet Poison Helpline (855) 764-7661 or ASPCA pet poison hotline(888) 426-4435 You will be connected with a veterinarian that will provide immediate medical advice ( fees around $100) and usually the ER requires you to call them to initiate immediate care.

With the trifecta of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Eve coming up, the toxicology experts at Pet Poison Helpline want to warn pet lovers about the many dangers that face pets during this festive season.

Meet Torch, my only American Bulldog patient. His Dad is all about setting him up for his best life - scheduling regular wellness checks for vaccines, training him to have good manners and signing him up for pet insurance before any conditions or diseases could be diagnosed. Torch was the perfect patient except for chewing on my shoe strings 😉🐾

Just like people, dogs get ear infections too! Infections can occur when there is a bacteria and yeast overgrowth from a buildup of wax and dead skin cells. While wax is normal in all ears, normal wax is thin, watery, and odorless. Healthy ears have a self-cleaning mechanism that helps wax-including the bacteria and yeasts that are found in the ear canal-constantly move up and out of the ear canal and keeps it clean and free from build-up. However, conditions, like allergic skin disease, can cause dogs to lose this self-cleaning mechanism and allow for the buildup of wax and overgrowth of bacteria and yeast, leading to infection.
