Delightful Downtown Dogs Delightful Downtown Dogs purpose is to provide Responsible Dog Ownership education to South East MN She also housed Safe Haven Rescue dogs here.

Cassie was born to two outstanding dog trainers, David and Renee Curry. Cassie’s father was the president of the Minnesota Search and Rescue Team for years with a few of his dogs, including Blazer who was the best Search and Rescue dog in the Midwest. Cassie’s mother started training dogs through an animal hospital she managed in upstate New York. Renee attended many seminars and was mentored by b

rilliant trainers in New York. When Renee moved to Minnesota, she went on to train rescue German Shepherds who needed precise obedience skills and socialization. Many of her prospects went on to do great things like work for sheriff departments. In 1994, Renee opened Completely Canines a doggie daycare, training, grooming, and boarding facility. This is where Cassie’s canine experience began. What Cassie enjoys most about Completely Canines is having developed lifelong friendships with clients and their dogs. Cassie’s childhood dogs included: Chloe a Dalmatian/Pitbull rescue who Cassie took to many fun shows. When Cassie was 7 yrs old Chloe and Cassie were featured in the Post Bulletin because of the special bond they showed the world at the Cook Park Dog Show. Rascal a Beagle/Rat Terrier rescue who went on to become Cassie’s first 4-H Obedience & Agility Champion Dog. He was also Cassie’s first dog to pass the Canine Good Citizen Test. Buttons a Bichon Frise rescue who had been through many homes. She had been hit by two cars prior to arriving with Cassie and her family. She was not potty trained and certainly very naughty. Cassie was able to potty train and obedience train this wild Bichon. Buttons lived to be 18 years old. Jennifur a Siberian Husky rescue was Cassie’s heart dog. Jennifur and Cassie loved to go on downtown dog walks and hikes. She would always be complimented on how well behaved her husky was. Jennifur was a 4-H Obedience & Agility Champion as well as a Canine Good Citizen. Terra a purebred AKC registered Chocolate Labrador Retriever was Cassie’s first and only AKC Junior Handling Dog. Terra gave Cassie confidence in the ring because she was a star herself. She has a huge heart and will be turning 14 in September 2019. All of Cassie’s childhood dogs prepared her for her dream dog, AKC registered purebred Dalmatian, CGC Diamond D’s Princess Layla BN RN TKI born June 11, 2017. Layla is an intelligent and well-bred dog who loves trying new things with Cassie. Layla and Cassie are actively training, participating, volunteering, and competing in AKC Conformation, Barn Hunt Events, MN Disc Dog Competitions, Agility, Rally, Obedience, Dock Diving, Mounted Trials, Trick Dog, Nose Work, Therapy Dog Work with Mayo Clinic Caring Canines Program, Greater Twin Cities Dalmatian Club, Rochester Minnesota Kennel Club, Volunteering at Rochester Fire Dept, participating in parades, and more! Layla’s face is the face you see on our Delightful Downtown Dogs logo. Cassie is a graduate of Animal Science from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. While earning her Bachelor's degree, Cassie majored in Equine Science and minored in Chemistry as she may want to go on to veterinarian school in the future. You can get to know more about Cassie’s experiences with horses by visiting her page: Does It Equine. In January of 2019, Cassie was asked to be a part of the training team at Leashes & Leads because they needed help. She enjoyed working with the other trainers at Leashes & Leads and sharing her knowledge with them. Her favorite part of working at Leashes & Leads is being able to make a positive difference in the lives of the dogs she works with and their owners. Cassie served as the Vice President of the Greater Twin Cities Dalmatian club from 2019 - 2021. She volunteered at firehouses and meet the breed events with the club. She registered the GTCDC as an AKC Fit Dog Club in 2021. Cassie also managed their social media as well as curated a quarterly newsletter for the club. Cassie is currently a board member of the Rochester Minnesota Kennel Club and proudly serves on their show committee. She was a founding board member for the Med City Agility Club. She is a current member of the Dalmatian Club of America. Cassie is a certified therapy dog handler through Pet Partners, since January of 2020. In creating Delightful Downtown Dogs, Cassie’s goal is to bring our community together. To make it safer and more enjoyable for dogs and owners alike. Delightful Downtown Dogs is a community of friends who delight in getting involved in activities with our dogs. The overall purpose is to encourage dog owners to learn from each other and grow as advocates for our dogs together.

🌟 Protect Your Pet with an ID Tag and Microchipping! 🐾🏷️

Ensuring your pet wears an ID tag with your name, address, and phone number at all times is crucial for their safety. 🐾🏷️ This simple step greatly increases the chances of a happy reunion should they ever wander off or get lost. Additionally, consider microchipping your pet—a small, permanent identification device implanted under their skin—to provide an added layer of protection.

Microchips are invaluable because they provide a reliable way to identify your pet even if their collar or ID tag gets lost. It's important to note that if your pet wears a collar at all times, it should be a breakaway safe collar. This type of collar is designed to release if it gets caught on something, reducing the risk of injury.

At Delightful Downtown Dogs, we emphasize the importance of both ID tags and microchipping for responsible pet ownership. Whether you're walking in the neighborhood or enjoying a park outing, having visible contact information and a microchip can significantly increase the likelihood of a quick reunion if your pet goes missing.

🌟 Maintaining a Healthy Weight for Your Dog 🐾🥦🏃‍♂️

Feeding your dog a well-balanced diet and ensuring they get plenty of exercise are crucial for maintaining their overall health and preventing obesity. 🐾🥦🏃‍♂️

Why It Matters: A balanced diet tailored to your dog's age, size, and activity level, along with regular exercise, helps prevent obesity. Obesity in dogs can lead to various health issues, including joint problems, diabetes, and reduced lifespan.

Assessing Weight: Use a body condition scoring system to assess if your dog is overweight. Feel for their ribs and look for a defined waist when viewed from above. If you can't easily feel their ribs or see a waistline, your dog may be overweight.

Treats and Portions: While treats are a great way to reward your dog, it's essential to know the right amount. Too many treats can contribute to weight gain. Consult with me to determine how many treats are appropriate for your dog's daily intake.

At Delightful Downtown Dogs, we're here to support your dog's health with personalized diet and exercise plans. Let's work together to keep your dog happy, healthy, and at their ideal weight.

How Can You Improve Your Dog's Attention? 🐾

Want your dog to focus on you more? Teaching your dog to make eye contact is a great way to improve their attention and strengthen your bond. Here’s a simple tip to get started:

✨ Reward Your Dog for Eye Contact! ✨

During meal times, try hand-feeding your dog and saying their name often. Use your marker word (like "yes" or "good") to reward them every time they look at you. Practice this throughout the day, on walks, and during training sessions. The more you reward this behavior, the more your dog will naturally offer it.

Don't forget to practice in different locations and gradually increase the time your dog holds eye contact before looking away. Consistency is key!

Curious about more ways to improve your dog's focus? If you'd like help with this skill, feel free to message me! I'd love to help you and your pup succeed. 🐶💕
