Samwise 🥰 This horse is so special. He is cautious but loving, he doesn’t always know what I am asking, but he tries so hard. He wants to please. That’s all I can ask. I love every session with him. We are taking it slow and making things fun. Today was our first official ride. We took it very easy and he was so good 😊

Meet Samwise (aka Sam)! He is our newest addition to the farm and will hopefully start taking a few riders this spring. At first glance, you may confuse him with Chief. We do believe he is part halflinger. He is an absolute sweetheart and LOVES treats!

Update: the farm will remain closed for lessons this week. I am hoping to open up for a couple days of lessons next week. As of today, the arena is flooded and the sand below is still frozen in places. The horses are eager to see their riders again!! I’ll update riders closer to next week 🤞 I am still open for Magnawave sessions and appreciate all of my clients who have reached out!

It’s been a heartbreaking couple of days that I still haven’t processed. Yesterday, we lost Babe. She was my #1 and just the best in every way. She was my first horse and will always have a special place in my heart. I know so many riders and families are grieving her loss. It was unexpected following a short illness.

Today, we laid to rest our matriarch, Blaze, and another pasture mate who was owned by a dear friend. Both aged ponies were not going to comfortably survive another winter. We were prepared for these two but it doesn’t make it much easier.

To loose 3 horses in 24 hours is something I am not yet sure how to grieve. It’ll take some time. Having several aged horses, I knew it was a possibility I may loose more than one in a close time frame, but this is a lot to process. I appreciate all who have reached out and my students who understand that I need some time.

I am not one to share my grief publicly, as it is happening, but I feel I owe it to everyone who loves Babe to let you know what is going on.

This past Monday, Babe choked on her grain. It was serious enough to have the vet out to help clear it. Unfortunately, it left her with some life threatening complications. She developed and infection and has a tear and ulcerated section in her esophagus. At her age (27), we do not know if she will be able to recover.

Our vet team has had some very long days attending to Babe on several emergency calls as new symptoms arise. We are thankful for their time and care. They have given me all of the tools and medicine to keep her comfortable and fight her infection while we see if her esophageal tear can heal.

We will know more midweek. If her tear is not healing well, she will be laid to rest. I am not ready to loose her but I need to keep her quality of life in mind.

I know Babe has been a big part of so many riders/clients lives. If you have pictures or stories, please pass them along. It would mean so much to me to put together a collage of photos and stories of how much Babe has impacted our community.

I’ll update as soon as I know more. In the mean time, please know she is getting the best care and so much love 💜

This was hard to get a picture of but I had to try. Unmounted lesson day due to heat index. I have a student who LOVES baseball (but not as much as he loves his horse, Chief, he says). So I created a baseball diamond in the arena. He had to lead Chief to each “base” and complete a task before moving on. He “knocked it out of the park!” ⚾️

Happy Birthday Angie! We are so grateful for your friendship and dedication 🥰 Thank you for sharing your day with us!

Thank you to those of you who scheduled make up lessons this week! We had to close for a couple days due to the storm. This greatly affects our ability to afford necessities for our horses such as grain and medications. Make up lessons help us recover some of those costs!

It’s going to be a hot week! We will ride unless you hear from me. Bring your water bottles!
