I’m so happy to say that Chief is surpassing our expectations! He is one tough pony! Today he got a spa day. Harder to clip him this time around since he lost weight. Finished round one. Will do his legs and clean up his body another day. At least he will be more comfortable in this heat 🥵

Happy Retirement Chief!!! I want to say a HUGE thank you to the Prall Family for helping bring this pony into our lives 🥰. He has been a rockstar 🤩 He has impacted countless families, including ours. My son with special needs started therapeutic riding on him at just a couple years old. Chief motivated him to find his speech. We owe him everything. He was diagnosed with PPID (Cushings) a few years ago. It has been well managed until this year. He had a scary reaction to sedation this past winter. We have been watching him closely, reducing his work load this spring. Last week, he went extremely lame. X-rays show Lamanitis (Founder) in one hoof. It’s an extreme case. His coffin bone is almost protruding through the sole of his hoof. He also has severe ringbone and navicular. This is one tough pony! He hasn’t ever showed more than a mild unsoundness until last week. We did not think he would make it through this week. Remarkably, he is showing improvement just 24 hours after therapies (meds/icing/boot). His prognosis is still “guarded” at best. He may have a couple weeks or several more months (or more if he is comfortable on the hard winter ground). However long he has left, we will spoil him with attention. Anyone who has loved him are welcome to schedule a time to come visit him. He is loving visits 🥰

I have had a lot of people reach out after the severe weather tonight. We were luckily unaffected, but PALS, the farm that brought me to Indiana, was not so fortunate. They were directly hit by a tornado and their building is completely destroyed. Thankfully, no horses were seriously injured. We will be staying in touch with the PALS team and helping in anyway we can.

We will be closed for lessons today so we can make some repairs. We got a short but very severe storm yesterday and it damaged the footing and fencing in the arena!
