9-year-old Eddie is a good-looking mixed breed fellow in need of an adoptive home. We are told that Eddie is AMAZING with people. He's a big teddy bear, weighing in at 80 pounds. Eddie loves snuggling with his people. At night he gets to sleep in the bed with his person.

Eddie is GREAT with kids! He doesn't always get along with other dogs though he's lived with them before. The belief is that Eddie needs a home without dogs. Eddie has not lived with cats but we are told he has ignored those he's seen.

Eddie's person has worked from home so he's been accustomed to that. We are told that Eddie can stay home alone without anxiety. He can manage quite a few hours between potty breaks. Eddie will find a place to and nap inside or when it's nice he will enjoy sunbathing outside.

Eddie is always up for a game of fetch! It sounds as though Eddie has good leash manners. He doesn't pull so one could enjoy walks with Eddie. Because he is a large sized dog one should be able to manage his size and strength if he came across something that could cause him to get excited.

Doesn't Eddie sound like a nice dog? We are told he only barks when he plays to get your attention. We think Eddie is going to make a great buddy to someone! He is in need of a new home soon.

Eddie is located in Renton, WA. For contact information please email: [email protected]

This is a courtesy post. Eddie is not an Old Dog Haven dog. Old Dog Haven has not assessed this dog for medical issues and will not be responsible for medical care after adoption. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

Hi! My name is Daisy and I need a new home. Care to guess what breed or mix of dog I am? With my longer hair, I look very terrier. With a shave, I look like a chihuahua. I am a very unique and interesting-looking girl! I weigh 8 pounds and I am 10 years old.

My lifelong person is looking for a wonderful home with someone who will love me as much as she has, as soon as possible. Maybe you are looking for a forever friend or you know someone who is? I have so much to offer! I am a cuddly girl who has so much love to offer. I can be both cuddly and playful. My person describes me as "a dainty little dog who loves people".

I have always lived with other dogs and do fine with them unless they are large, aggressive dogs. Never in my life have I seen a cat so if you have one, I can't tell you how I'd react! If you have kids around, I can do well with them. However, I do appreciate the kiddos who are gentle and respectful. No dog wants to be treated roughly!

When I move I hope my new people will understand I need time to learn my new routine and give me time to adapt. I have been fine to stay home when my human leaves but I have had other dogs for company. I need to learn that you are coming back and everything will be OK! If you allow me to join you in your bed, I will love that.

I am a good girl who will potty outside when I need to, holding my potty a few hours between breaks. When you let me outside I'll run around in the yard happily. I am used to having a fenced yard. I have not been leash walking much so if you put me on leash I will pull out of excitement. My person says I'm a "circus dog" because I run around and hop over things. It makes her laugh!

I spend most of my time inside though I love to bathe in a spot of sun anywhere! I have good recall which means, I will come when you call my name. I will bark at all of the expected times: when someone comes to the door, when other dogs barks, when I am surprised and if you leave me alone in the car (not my favorite!).

I'm a young senior who can still manage stairs. It's been 3 years since I last saw a vet. I am not up to date on my vaccines so I do need to see a vet to have those done. If you can do this for me and afford regular vet care and good dog food, I could possibly be around for a long time to come! Adopting me could be the start of a beautiful love story! I am hoping to find my happily ever after and soon."

We are THRILLED to share the news that Nonna has been

ADOPTED!!

Our friends at Regional Animal Services of King County tell us that happy tears were shed for Nonna at her adoption. We are shedding happy tears too!!

We are so grateful to Nonna's adopter and hope we hear from them if they follow our page. We just love receiving happy updates!

Thanks to all of you who hit your share buttons for Nonna and all of the other senior dogs in need we post. You really do make a difference through your shares for these old dogs!

ADOPTED

It's Sunday and we are beginning the day off with a senior who is waiting at the Regional Animal Services of King County for her adopter. Check out Nonna! Let's help this lovely girl find an adopter today!

“Hi! My name is Nonna and I am available for adoption.

I was brought into the shelter by my previous owner over a month ago because they were facing homelessness and could no longer keep me. I lived in a home with men, women and children. I have gotten with cats but I can be dog selective.

I weigh 70 pounds and am considered a "large breed" dog. I am pretty overweight and would benefit from some weight loss so that I can live a longer and happier life. My eyesight is not the greatest so I am not a huge fan on going on long walks. The best way to get me down to a healthy weight to make sure I am eating the right amount and absolutely no table scraps!

If I had to describe myself it would be that I am an absolute couch potato! I love being next to people and just napping the day away.

The kind folks here will tell you that I am an adaptable dog who loves to go with the flow! I am outgoing and carefree, and I just can't wait to find my forever home!”

"Well hello my name is Cooper and I am supposedly a pug/terrier mix, but I identify as a terrier!

I am 12 yearrs old, but in my case age really is just a number, because I am healthy and fit and get around great. Currently I weigh 21 pounds. I do need to lose a pound or two, but hey who doesn't!

I have been around other dogs and I do fine with them as long as they are not wild young whippersnappers. The main thing you should know about me is that I like to come across as tough and unfriendly when you first meet me. I promise this is all a show, really I am the sweetest boy. You see I don't trust people as fast as some dogs do. I need some time to decide if you are going to treat me nice. Once I do decide, we will be best friends! When I meet people, I like it if they bring treats and just let me come to them when I am ready. I tried to scare my foster mom off, but she knew that inside me there was a really nice boy, so we worked it all out pretty quickly!

I have seen the vet and got my nasty teeth cleaned up and a perfect bill of health. Now I just need to find that perfect home for me to live out my retirement years!

Cooper is with Pacific Pug Rescue in Portland Oregon. If you are interested in Cooper you can email [email protected] for more information.

Let's begin this Wednesday off with a senior shelter dog in need!

Meet Beya, an affectionate 11-year-old, 69 pound pit bull with a heart of gold. This sweet girl is seeking a loving home where she can be the center of attention as the sole pet. Beya enjoys leisurely walks where she can stroll at her own pace. Her loyalty and charming personality promises to bring joy and warmth to her new forever home.

Beya was surrendered to the shelter after her lifelong family had to move. She has been a loving family member who was good with kids who are old enough to understand being gentle. Beya will chase cats.

Beya loves to play with plush toys! She loves to play fetch too. Car rides can make her tummy upset. Beya enjoys baths. She is well-house-trained and follows some commands. Beya is accustomed to staying inside her home with her people. She will bark when she's left alone, one must be ready to help her adapt gradually to her new home and being left alone. We believe that's the case whenever someone "adds" a dog to their home!

This lovely gal has been at the shelter now for 2 months! No doubt Beya is wondering why she is there. Beya is ready to make her way to her new and forever home!

Beya is posted for the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society in Wenatchee, WA. Please check out their website for more information on how to adopt: https://www.wenatcheehumane.org/dogs

Here's an update on Stewie! A dog you helped share to find an Old Dog Haven Final Refuge home for.

Who could forget this face? 🥰

Stewie was an owner surrender this past June. This wonderful boy made his way to an Old Dog Haven home where he has been absolutely cherished. Once some of the issues he arrived with were addressed - he's been given gabapentin, Librela injections for his weak back end and arthritis as well as pepcid to help with his gut, he was moving and feeling much better.

Stewie had elevated liver enzymes so we knew we had to get to the bottom of this. Last week he had an ultrasound which didn't give us good news. He appears to have IBD. We are treating that with an Rx diet and supplements. Unfortunately, there were some mast cells in his abdomen which means that cancer is likely (we are giving antihistamines to buffer any symptoms), his spleen looked like there was cancer of some sort and his liver was suspicious. His prognosis isn't great but so far he's feeling perfectly fine with all of his treatments. The best news is: Stewie doesn't know about any of it, he is a very happy guy who is a favorite everywhere!

His forever foster told us this:
"He’s been on lots of adventures with us and has a great new friend, a little black cat. She LOVES showing him affection and making sure his ears are clean. He’s got a great schedule involving walks, meals, and treat time, and reminds me when I’m late. Stewie will turn 13 at the end of August. His amount of s***k was a great surprise!"

Quality time is what we strive for. Stewie is loving his new fantastic life and family. We will keep him as comfortable as possible for as long as possible. This is our mission and we thank you all for your continued support!

How it is that Pebbles is still available for adoption??
Pebbles is a cross post for our friends at Save-A-Mutt. Let's help her find the home she's waiting for! 🐾🤞

Look at this adorable girl! Pebbles is a fun-loving girl who is dreaming of a forever home. She is 8 years old and weighs 14 pounds.

Pebbles is a go with the flow pup who is happiest when she is with her people. Whether your days are filled with gardening or going for rides in the car. Pebbles is ready to be right beside you. Just give her a lap, a blanket or a car seat and she will be so happy!

Pebbles will need a home without stairs and a securely fenced yard. Pebbles can be dog selective, therefore, a meet and greet with the resident dogs of any potential adopters will be necessary. She has met other small dogs and done well but larger dogs frighten her. It is unknown what Pebbles would think about cats, therefore, any cats in the home should be dog savvy. Due to the quick and unpredictable nature of small children her rescuers are asking for a home without children under 10 years of age.

Pebbles is posted for Save-A-Mutt. She is being fostered in Snohomish County, WA. If you'd like to learn more about Pebbles, please email: [email protected] or check out their Petfinder link: https://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?shelter_id=WA630

Happy Tuesday!
We are once again hitting our share button for Booda and Shyela who have not had any inquiries for adoption, in spite of all of your previous shares. Our hope is that an adopter will come for both of them so that they can stay together. Everyone wants this but so far, they've had no interest at all as a pair.

Will you please share these bonded friends again today, Friends?

Booda Bear and Shyela Lou are the best of friends! Their nicknames are "Mr. and Mrs. Goodpuppy! This pair have lived most of their lives together and the hope is that they will find an adoptive home where they can remain together. Booda is a male, an 11 year old weimaraner mix who weighs 48 pounds. Shyela is a 10 year old, female, tri-color hound mix who weighs 49 pounds. Aren't they are a good looking pair? We are told that they "really take care of each other."

These friends have been well socialized with other dogs, spending time at the local dog park. Booda really liked the cat they used to share their home with. Shyela wanted to chase the cat but once she learned the kitty was not a toy to be chased, she did well. Shyela and Booda have never been around babies or toddlers. Both dogs have liked older children.

Shyela and Booda are crate-trained and are accustomed to staying in their crate when one must leave them at home. Booda does get anxious when his human leaves, it helps that he can go into his crate and feel secure and have his gal pal close by. Shyela and Booda have lived in a home with a dog door leading to a securely fenced yard. This has been great for them to get out to do their business or hang outside when they feel like it. The pair have spent time at a boarding kennel when needed and done well.

In the past, before life changed for their humans, they were accustomed to daily walks. Now that one human has passed away and the other human's health is not good, they don't get out for walks as they used to but instead take trips to the dog park. Time to walk on leash could be appreciated though their leash skills are a little "rusty". Booda and Shyela are smart dogs who want to please their human. The belief is with some treats, they could learn better leash manners. They know several commands. Shyela and Booda can both manage stairs at this time.

As dogs will do, Booda and Shyela bark. According to their human, Booda barks for a reason while Shylea just joins in! We are told Booda barks less now that he's older. Shyela may be coaxed into barking less with treats and attention.

When asked to describe Booda, this is what we were told: "He's very protective of any dog he sees that is sad, even a complete stranger. He'll go over and stand next to this sad pup, like at the doggie park, to help it feel better. I've also seen him come over and stand very quietly
and passively next to a dog being somewhat harshly corrected for something, as if to ask, “Is there anything I can do to help?” There's not the slightest hint of aggression or threat coming from him, his eyes just seem to be saying, “Please.” And it often works. You could say he's a very caring pacifist. Come to think of it, it's as if he's living up to his name, Booda, like the original Buddha."

Shylea is described as "Very lively and playful for a 10-year-old and loves to play, like fetch and with doggie toys. If she's outside when you return home and you've been gone a while, she might start jumping “verticals” to show you how happy she is to see you. In other words she might start jumping for joy. She's also very, very sweet and loving, and has these big brown eyes that look at you sometimes in such an innocent and loving way it just melts
your heart. She's definitely a sweetie pie."

Booda and Shyela have been well-loved dogs. Their owner has kept up with their care as best he could. It would be wonderful to help them find a home where they will remain together and continue to be cared for and cherished as they have for so long

Shyela and Booda are located in Sequim, WA. For contact information please email: [email protected]

This is a courtesy post. Booda and Shyela are not Old Dog Haven dogs. Old Dog Haven has not assessed these dogs for medical issues and will not be responsible for medical care after adoption. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

Dexter was an intake to Old Dog Haven after his owner passed away.
Family was coming to care for Dexter in his home but he was alone in his home most of the time. We knew Dexter needed help!

Thanks to our friends at Save-A-Mutt who helped assess Dexter and helped in the process of getting him to us. We also need to thank our transporter who picked Dexter up and brought him to his Old Dog Haven Final Refuge home.

Dexter's Old Dog Haven forever foster had said goodbye to her Old Dog Haven dog, Bosco, in April this year. Bosco had lived to celebrate his 16th birthday with her! We were sad when he had to leave but we are so grateful she offered to take another Old Dog Haven dog. She has shared that Dexter arrived and fit in almost immediately with her family. Understandably Dexter had some major anxiety when he arrived. He has also struggled with pancreatitis. He has been vetted and he has already been able to start taking less anxiety medication. Dexter will likely stay on a special diet to keep him feeling good, avoiding painful pancreatitis. He's been groomed so that you can see those heart-melting eyes and he has been blessed by their church deacon!

We think Dexter is such a cutie and he's such a nice boy!
We are happy that this fellow will never be alone again, he will never lose his home.
Dexter will remain in his forever foster home, happily, for the rest of his days.

We thank you all for your continued support.

Your donations help make this possible! ❤

Ready for long walks down the beach? Hikes in the mountains? Time to chill with a cuddly pup? Summit may just be your guy!

Summit has a typical malamute personality: Independent, smart, playful, and affectionate, but only when he wants to be. He is crate trained, however, if he's left in the crate, for what he considers is too long, he will find a way out. This gorgeous boy is about 8 years old, he weighs 75 pounds.

A large fenced yard for him to run zoomies and burn energy would be ideal for Summit. He enjoys long daily walks where he can explore, but could use some practice on his leash training commands. After the walk, he loves to cuddle and relax with his humans.

Summit gets very excited at seeing other dogs as he wants to play, but not all dogs appreciate his enthusiasm. It may be best that he is in an only dog family. Summit's furever family should have the time to spend with him and take him on many adventures.

Summit is posted for the Washington Alaskan Malamute League located in Puyallup, WA. For more information about Summit and adopting him, please email: [email protected]

Last month we had a wonderful party in the park to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Our spokesdog, Punkin, in her last public appearance, charmed her fans at the party and has now gone on to her next expression of spirit. Thank you Punkin for being such a wonderful ambassador for Old Dog Haven.

This month we return to our 20th anniversary series of blogs about what makes Old Dog Haven so successful.

Almost all of the dogs that come to us are in serious need of medical attention. Many
dogs haven’t been seen by a veterinarian in years, so there’s often a long list of
problems. On average at least 50 dogs a week are seen by a veterinarian and our vet
bills are usually over $150,000 per month. I know that seems like a lot of money, but
keep in mind that we typically have 300+ Final Refuge dogs living in foster homes, and most of them require regular vet visits. Also, as is true of almost everything else these days, the cost of vet. care has consistently increased over the years.

All vet bills and medical supplies are paid directly by Old Dog Haven, including any
prescription diet food.

It’s also important to know that the standard of care for our dogs is high. Many of our veterinarians are skilled, board-certified specialists, so our dogs receive every
opportunity available to them to heal and be well.

With the help of our vets, we do as much as we can to ensure quality of life, and to make our dogs feel content and comfortable as long as they’re with us.

We’re very fortunate that our veterinarians are not only skilled, but also compassionate, accessible and dedicated to doing everything they can to help our dogs. They always make time to see our dogs, and they support our mission with enthusiasm and loving care.

We appreciate our vets and thank them for their commitment to our dogs.

LOOK into those eyes....👀Tripper is asking for your shares this Monday.

We have had NO inquiries for Tripper. So we are sharing him again and hoping you will too! 🙏🐾🙏🐾

"Howdy! My name's Tripper. I'm a yellow lab mix who weighs about 65 pounds. I was adopted from a shelter 7 years ago. My exact age isn't known but my human says I'm between 9-10 years old. I am a very good boy who wants to find a home without other animals.

I don't know why I don't like other dogs but my person will tell you I have been this way since he adopted me. I've never lived with a cat. I just watch them from the window when they are outside. I don't bark at them, just wonder about them. It is probably best not to adopt me if you have a cat. I do like kids though! The kids that are old enough to play fetch with me and pet me nicely (not sit or pull me). My human says I'd be a good family dog. But I could live with a single person or a couple too. I love humans! I am friendly and enjoy it when we have company over.

I still consider myself young, well maybe I'm middle-aged because I'm not a hyper puppy! I can manage quite a bit when I need to wait for a potty break. I can still do stairs too. A home with a fenced yard I can go out into would be terrific. If you would like a walking partner, I could be the one for you but we'll have to work on my leash skills and reactivity if we see another dog while we are out. I am very treat motivated and smart so I'd bet with some training, we could really enjoy ourselves! It's nice when a dog doesn't have to be on alert, you know? Just enjoy time with our person. That's what we want!

If you have to leave the house, I am just fine. Of course, when I first move you'll have to give me some time to settle in. I will bark to let you know when someone is at the door or if a dog is barking outside but aside from that, I'm not a barky boy.

Playing with toys is fun! Hanging out with my human is fun too. I'm a good boy in search of a good, rest-of-my-life home."

Tripper is located in Pullman, WA. For contact information please email: [email protected]

This is a courtesy post. Tripper is not an Old Dog Haven dog. Old Dog Haven has not assessed this dog for medical issues and will not be responsible for medical care after adoption. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

Old Dog Haven Final Refuge fosters know that loss is inevitable; it is going to happen with each and every dog we take into our care. We believe our fosters are selfless, brave, compassionate, and absolutely incredible. One of our amazing fosters wrote this about Newton, one of her Old Dog Haven forever foster dogs, after she had to send him on a week ago today. Early last month a tumor was found growing at the base of his heart. Newton had joined her in May of this year. We can feel the love she had for Newton in what she wrote here:

"A couple of people in our Old Dog Haven community know. My friends and family know. My coworkers know. For some reason, I couldn't bring myself to post this here until now, because once I tell all of *you* - the people who understand what it's like to say goodbye to an Old Dog Haven dog - it somehow feels more real. Some of you have met and helped Sir Newton, or cheered him on from his time in the shelter. In a very real sense, you're part of his pack, too. He was part of a larger support network, and so many people gave so much to make his final days here happy and full of love.

I had to say goodbye to Newton, (aka Newt, Snootin', Newt the Snoot) this past Sunday, August 4, 2024. He'd have symptoms, then he'd rebound to his playful, happy self. Then he'd have more symptoms, followed by another comeback. But the symptoms kept getting worse, and the comebacks were less vigorous every time. I am so grateful for Judith, whose support and guidance were everything. I'd only had him for a short time, but I was smitten. It's strange how quickly a dog can curl up in our hearts and decide to stay there, isn't it? I don't know how Sir Newton landed in a shelter, but he was such a sweet, empathetic, affectionate friend.

For a full day, I couldn't bring myself to wipe his snot from my front window, where he would press his nose and wait for me to get home from work (and bark his head off when he heard my car outside). His dog beds are where he left them. And yes, that is a picture of me holding a chunk of dry wall that newly-arrived Newton tore off by the front door (before he met his new Vet and got meds for separation anxiety). I'm not sure when I'll fix that. His clay pawprint will be delivered tomorrow, so I'm thankful I can work from home. I'll probably add my *own* snot to the front window when I see that UPS driver pull up!

This is hard. Really, really hard. But you know what? If you're a new ODH foster or volunteer, I want to reassure you that it's totally worth it. It's worth loving and being loved by an old dog. I'm so glad you said yes, and opened your heart. And I want to honor those of you who have been doing this for a long time. You are well acquainted with grief, yet you keep giving these dogs so much joy in their final days. Your hearts are unlike anything in the world. Except maybe the hearts of the dogs you love. Pure. Unconditional. Loyal. Faithful to your pack. Thank you all for the beautiful support you offer these dogs and each other. What a gift.

Thank you, Old Dog Haven, for letting me meet and love Sir Newton. Thank you, ODH friends, for loving him with me. And Sir Newton, thank you for being a very good boy. Thank you for wandering in to kiss my arm when I was on the toilet, because you couldn't see - or reach - my face. Thank you for climbing up on my lap to hug me while I was sitting on the couch - all lanky 50 pounds of you. I will always love you, Snooty Snoot. You were so special, and I promise you will be remembered. 🌈 ❤"

Hopeful news!

Nacho has an ADOPTION PENDING!

Thanks to all of you who shared Nacho. We will be sure to let you know when we receive a confirmation of adoption.

All paws crossed for Nacho! 🐾🐾

ADOPTION PENDING

Howdy! My name is Nacho. I came to Washington state 2 years ago from an out of state shelter. I was brought to Washington and adopted right out from the transport van to a nice lady. The people that brought me here told the nice lady I was 8 years old. That makes me 10 years old now. I am a chihuahua and I'll admit since I came to the nice lady I've put on some weight. I weigh almost 19 pounds now. That's too much weight for my frame so I should go on a gradual weight loss plan.

It took some time for me to learn trust. My lady was very patient with me, sitting and waiting for me to come to her. She talked to me nicely and gave me treats. Finally I decided she was OK. I'd been through a lot to get here-a scary shelter after my former person died. Then there was a LONG drive with strangers and other scared, barking dogs. I thought I'd finally reached my forever home but sadly, my lady is now unable to keep me and there is no "back up plan" with the people that drove me here. So here I am, in need of rehoming again and this time, I sure hope it's truly for forever!

When I arrived at my home there was another dog. It was an older dog and slightly bigger than me. That dog was no threat to me so I liked it. I would sometimes share a bed with him. But one day he was sick and he left, never to return. I may like another dog, if they are mellow and friendly but not too pushy!. I have never seen a cat before. I do see squirrels in the yard and I chase them. Does that mean I'd chase a cat? I can't say for sure. What I can say for sure is that I don't like kids. I don't want to live in a home with them because they are unpredictable and loud. I am an anxious boy so I want an adult home where there is not a lot of coming and going.

Speaking of coming and going, my lady is busy, busy here, and people are coming and going. It has made me nervous. My lady took me to the dog doctor and they gave her some pills to make me sleepy and less on edge. You see, I'm not a social butterfly. When people come to the house, I run to my lady's room and hide. I have not a mean bone in my body. I am a sweet, loving boy once I get to know and trust you.

My lady has a dog door and that has worked for me to go in and out to do my business as needed. I like to go outside and sit when it's nice. But please, keep me safe! I need a securely fenced yard and please watch for predators. While I may be a bigger boy, once I slim down I may be at risk for hungry wildlife! I hold my potty overnight just fine so you can shut that doggy door when we go to bed.

At night I love to sleep in the bed with my lady. She has a dog bed that I lie in on her bed. I don't like to snuggle under the covers so you can have those all to yourself. I like to share the couch with my person and sometimes sit on her lap. I'd prefer not to be squeezed or hugged tight, that makes me worry. I will bark when I hear other dogs barking but aside from that, I'm not much of a barker.

My lady will tell you that she's not exercised me in the time she's had me. I don't go on walks and I'm not accustomed to walking on a leash. I'm not sure what to do when a leash is attached to me! Maybe I could learn to go for walks? I don't feel as though I'm missing out on anything however I really do need to get exercise. Not just because I'm overweight but because moving is good for everyone! I love to play with toys and run around and explore my yard. My lady plays with me, it's fun for me and it makes her smile. I can still manage stairs just fine.

At my age, I'm a young senior for my breed. I could live for many years to come if I'm taken care of properly. Regular vet care, good dog food and exercise could mean I hang around for a long time to come! I sure hope my next human can manage this for me and will keep me for the rest of my days. It's hard for a fellow like me to keep losing people! I am ready to start my happily ever after."
