Deep South Canine Rescue Deep South Canine Rescue is a 501c3 nonprofit foster-based dog rescue out of Ellaville, Georgia. Deep South Canine Inc.

is a non-profit animal rescue, lead by Pam Dixon. We rescue animals locally, as well as work with other rescues to transport them from Georgia to the northeast and other areas throughout the country to find them the best home possible. Before adopting our animals out, every dog is assessed, and all their needs are met. We make sure they are vetted and healthy as well as provide them with comfort, security and safety, including foster care if possible.

PAGE 1. Hi everyone, I'm excited to share my journey with you, proving that age is just a number, and it's never too late to make a difference. As I near my 70th birthday, I've learned that even the oldest dogs can learn new tricks, and I'm proud to be an example. My experience volunteering with Deep South Canine Rescue has been incredibly rewarding, and I'm thankful for the support and guidance I've received. Last Fall, I started feeding a mama dog and her pup, and as Winter approached, I knew I had to act fast to provide them with shelter. I provided an igloo and fed them twice a day, and soon I noticed the mom was pregnant. The pup was more trusting than his skittish mom, and with the help of Deep South, I was able to trap him and take him to our Humane Society, where he was adopted just a few days later. 1st. Pic-the day Finn was trapped, 2nd. Pic-Finn in his new home after being loved & fed very well😊

PAGE 2. As the days went by Mama Dog, better known as “Girl”, looked for Finn. I could feel her confusion & anxiety as she searched for her son. Girl returned to her dog house for the next 2 nights, then she disappeared. I knocked on doors & asked for permission to check under personal storage buildings & garages & exchanged phone numbers with neighbors I had never met. I had no luck for the next several days. Where could she be! I dreaded the snow storm that was predicted to hit that evening & walked through the woods where I saw a hole next to a huge tree that had fallen during a storm. For a second I thought I heard a puppy’s cry, then, thank the Lord it was confirmed. I could hardly believe it Even through my down coat, I could feel the chill in the icy air & it was getting dark. Heavy wet huge snowflakes started to stick. I called my team family at Deep South Canine Rescue & Lisa arrived on the spot with her camera confirming that the hole was actually a den that Girl had dug to have her puppies. Funny thing is, I saw Girl & her son Finn digging around there the week before, but had no idea that they were on a mission.

MORE TOMORROW…

PAGE 3. For some reason, Page 3 did not post yesterday so I’m starting again. After confirming that the feral mama dog and her puppies were underground, I knew I could count on Tara, one of DSCR Foster moms to help. She drove from her home over an hour away in our first night of real Winter Through the blizzard she passed six accidents from the snow and ice. Thankfully she had a 4-wheel drive pickup. When she arrived we quickly treaded through the snow and set up the iron crate that she brought. We positioned it over the entrance to her den, wrapped the sides with a doubled tarp and a heavy horse blanket, attach the roof, hooked up a heater inside & left the new little family to bond & rest. The next morning I couldn’t wait to take food & water to the survival tent for “Girl”. It was toasty warm & completely dry inside. DSCR owner Pam Dixon advised me to feed her cooked fresh chicken and puppy chow for protein. My two trips a day feeding times have turned into three. Girl seems to be getting a bit more used to me & my hope is that she will gain my trust so I can get her spayed once she has completed her nursing duties.

STAY TUNED….

🎈My BIRTHDAY is right around the corner & all I’m asking for is help for Deep South Canine Rescue. I have a Foster Family that has been caring for 2 of our heartworm positive Shepherds. The dogs have been outside in a large kennel that had to be wrapped with tarps to protect them from the bad weather. Since we’re expecting below freezing temperatures for the next several days, we had to transfer the dogs into boarding. The bill will be close to $800. I’m asking for your help as we are struggling with vet bills, transport fees & all of the things needed to keep a rescue up & running. Your donations are tax deductible as we are a 501 3C nonprofit Rescue. Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated

It’s always a bitter sweet day when we have to say Goodbye. Several of the Deep South dogs were loaded onto the transport van Friday afternoon & should arrive in NY today where they will be united with foster families & be adopted into their forever homes. We’re so thankful for the drivers & all of those who make this attainable. These dogs have gone through remarkable training to get to this point. They don’t leave Ga until they can flow in obedience & socialization skills. They transform from street walkers to beautiful companions who are willing to fit in & be a blessing. Deep South Canine Rescue is so thankful for your help & support in making this all possible.

Another Day At The Ranch!!! This sweet homeless girl had been gracing one of our “Foster Family’s” yard for a year. When it was noticed that she was pregnant, Pam & Foster MomTara accelerated into high gear to catch the Mama & provide a birthing place. A trap was set & the next morning she was caught but she looked thinner. Tara went looking through the woods to see if she had her babies anywhere close by. Sure enough, there they were. Mama dog had 8 pups all alone, on that freezing cold night. Sadly 2 didn’t survive the frigid temperatures. Tara gathered up the pups, put them in a box, loaded the trap with Mama inside into her vehicle & headed for Deep South Canine Rescue. What a blessing to see them doing so well today & a couple pups already have their eyes opened. Sadness & broken hearts come with the territory at the rescue but we must focus on the lives that were saved & keep moving forward.

Submitted by Jody Dove…….2 of my 3 rescues. Ellie on the left. Toby, with the big smile, on the right. That jaw look scary to you? Nobody is more gentle taking a tiny treat from my hand than this guy. I adopted both of them, never having met them prior. Toby is from rural GA, (bred to fight, but not a fighter, so he was a bait dog) from which I have helped adopt out hundreds of wonderful dogs- Deep South Canine Rescue- Pam Dixon, an incredible non-profit rescue that I always promote with pride!
Ellie was a street dog found with her puppy, around Dead Dog Beach in Puerto Rico and she flew into NY 2 1/2 yrs ago on a freedom flight thru SATO.
All of my dogs have always been and are absolutely wonderful. Don't let distance be an obstacle to adoption! If you would like more info about adoption or transport or whatever, please DM me and I will answwer ASAP.
