Two hours! 2 little hours of your week! And you get to play with cats? For two hours? SOLD!

Today is National Change a Pet's Life Day!

How could you change a cat's life with two hours? Volunteer! We have cats in stores in Schaumburg, Wood Dale, Arlington Heights as well as a few spots in the city where we have resident cats and the stores are always in need of help! You could stop by in the morning, at lunch, in the evenings. They need a little food and caretaking but mostly playtime and cuddles!

If you have time to help us change a pet's life, please sign up to volunteer with us! If going to a store isn't your cup of tea, there are so many ways to get involved that can be done from home. We are all volunteer-based so will take any and all of the support we can. Please reach out!

One-Eyed Cat Appreciation Post!

If there any anything cuter than Lotus or Curly, please let us know!

Some cats can be seen as special needs, but if you have ever seen some of these little tigers get around, you would have no idea! Insert Lotus and Curly. We just wanted to give them a little visibility! As some of our fosters will tell you, cats with one eye, no eyes - they are magical little tigers who will fascinate you with all they can do!

Lotus is a wonderful young lady who loves her people, playing with her favorite toys and relaxing in the window. She loves nothing more than getting attention and pets from her people, enjoying cuddle sessions!

Curly can be shy at first but after a minute will be all over you! Coming over to you when you call him for pets. He loves playing with feathers and chasing his ball toys. This purr monster will thrive in his perfect forever home!

Meet Billie and Finneas. Even those challenging, seemingly hopeless stories have so much hope because of the cat rescue community! 💜

Billie and Finneas came in as a confiscation/eviction case. Last week just after noon on Wednesday, Billie and Finneas were given a 5PM deadline at Chicago Animal Care and Control. They were not eating and lethargic. They had diarrhea so surely kept feeling worse and worse. They were super thin and of course hungry.

On top of that, they tested positive for panleukemia. Typically, panleuk takes kittens down very quickly so this is why they needed to get out of CACC and into a foster home where they could receive one-on-one care. Panleuk is challenging for rescues but thanks to an amazing foster who stepped in, they were given a fighting chance and taken in with FFF.

Upon arrival, Billie loved lapping up the formula offered to her. Finneas had to be syringe fed. Both were interested in food, but not feeling great. With some medication and fluids, they started feeling better and eating canned food. They were thought to be six week old kittens when they came to us, but are likely closer to three months and just very underweight. Poor babies!

Both are doing really well now!. Eating tons. Causing a kitten raucous with their wrestling antics. What more could you ask for? 💜

And when it comes to athleticism, Sherman takes the award! He's the most agile kitty! He's a high jumper who can traverse obstacles with ease!

Chrysanthemum was found outside in south Florida when her fosters took her in. The rescue in Florida was more equipped for dog placement, and they had a really hard time finding her the perfect home down there, so when her fosters moved back to Illinois, they took her with and FFF agreed to help out and keep looking for that special home for her.

Chrissy is a unique girl, and needs space at first to do everything on her own terms. Once she gets to know you, she is all cuddles and sweetness. She is beautiful and regal, but still very playful when she gets in the mood. Wand toys are her fave and she even steals them when she’s done playing with you. She’s loves squeeze up treats, and will do anything for them!

FIP WARRIOR: RALPHIE!

This regal tuxie with that soft, pet-able chest fur has overcome his battle against FIP and won! Yay Ralphie!

Ralphie came to FFF as a kitten last spring with his littermates. Since then, they have all been adopted. Late October, Ralphie was diagnosed with FIP thanks to the diligent care of his foster. With a strong network of FIP experts as well as donations from our wonderful community, after three months of treatment he is feeling much better and available for adoption.

Ralphie is such an easygoing, loving guy! He was so brave through the injections, the pills, the bloodwork tests. He is a strong little fighter! We would love to help him find his forever home this winter! Learn more about him and apply!

Today, we want to show love to two of our shyer Forever Fortunate Felines kitties, Alice and Nala. Shy kitties often get overlooked at adoption events because they don't *love* being the center of attention, but given a chance in a loving home - they can THRIVE!

Alice (black kitty) is quite playful at her foster home and loves chasing mice toys or climbing her cat tower with her foster siblings. She would do well in a home with a playful, energetic cat who can show her the ropes and help bring her out of her shell.

Nala (tabby kitty) may initially seem reserved, but she is quite the playful panther! She loves playing "hide and seek" under the couch, waiting for the perfect moment to pounce and play with her foster siblings. She also needs a cat companion at her forever home to frolic with.

On Friday, Jan 17, we received our first baby bottles of 2025.

Happy, Goofy, and Sleepy arrived to animal control cold and starving. They were found with no mom in sight and while the finder waited from afar, she did not return. These babies were freshly born and could not survive on their own.

Where did mom go? Who knows. It could’ve been her first or her tenth litter, either way causing her to want nothing to do with her babies. Maybe she’s injured, maybe she got stuck. We will never know.

No matter the situation, newborn kittens cannot survive without mom, and with these frigid temperatures, the odds were stacked against them. Unfortunately, despite the best warming & feeding efforts by one of our best baby bottle/medical fosters, Sleepy did not make it through the first night. Thankfully, Happy & Goofy are surviving. They made it through the hardest experience for newborns.

We hope the arrival of newborn kitties this early in the year isn’t indicative of trouble to come. We know that animal control is no longer accepting healthy, uninjured strays. This means more unfixed cats being left on the street and in turn more babies being born outside.

Are we worried? Yes, yes, and more yes.

Are there ways you can help? An even louder yes, yes, and more YES!

While fosters are imperative to us being able to intake cats, all of our adoption fees go right back into the rescue, so helping us in the 20+ roles leading up to adoptions is crucial!

There are the cat bio writers who make it possible for the cats to be posted for adoption. The application screeners who are finding the right fit for each applicant. The store and event volunteers who are helping us showcase our cute cats. The transporters bringing cats to/from vet visits. The medical foster and medical record reviewer keeping our cats are those important schedules. The various coordinators and team leads onboarding, process configuring, and scheduling. And so many more!

Two truths and a lie.

Since Nebula was a wee baby, coming to FFF last spring with her 4 littermates, we OF COURSE have supported her growth and nourishment. Of course, right? How? Magic food fairies! 🧚.

The lie? The food fairies. Nebula, and previously her littermates who have since been adopted, as well as all of the other cats and kittens with FFF are fed stemming from generous donations - both monetary and goods.

2 cans of wet food a day. 8 months. Say 30 days in a month. That means Nebula has gone through 480 cans of food. Plus dry food snacks. Right now, we have 370 cats in our care (we had so many adoptions in December - so wonderful - anyways...). 740 cans of food in a day. 5180 cans in a week. It is wild to think about the numbers! Maths.

Meet Midnight: The cat that’s perfected the 🥺 face.

Midnight is an absolute love bug who would like nothing more than to spend his life in the laps of humans who love him. He is a very affectionate 10 month old kitten who will need a lot of your time and attention, so he would do best in a home with humans who are interested in forming a strong bond with him. Due to his age, Midnight will need to be adopted into a home with another kitty friend to play with, or with another kitty from FFF. He would absolutely love to be adopted with his brother Ebony! 🏠

When he’s not living his best life playing with his brother or napping on his foster mom, Midnight loves to eat 😻 churu’s? Check. Wet food? Check. Bring it on! The way to his heart is absolutely through his stomach!

Kyro and Reptar came to FFF in 2020. Once a cat is with us, should adopters ever need, that cat can always come back to us. It is important that we know our cats are safe...forever!

Unfortunately, they were surrender back to FFF last summer. They are now bonded and would love to find their forever home together!

Meet Henry.

Henry lived his life as a stray in chicago. He didn’t really “belong” to anyone, but was a loved boy by a few folks who would feed him. Eventually he became a regular at one house, who noticed he was gradually getting sicker and needed some TNR help. And so it goes, Henry was TNR’d.

But Henry’s eye continued to get worse and he needed more extensive medical help. He couldn’t be left to his own accords and, without knowing the extent of the damage, it was tough situation for one of his feeders to take on.

One of our volunteers learned of Henry’s story and wanted to help. We were thankfully able to intake Henry due to the kindness of our fosters and supporters. And it was almost as if he knew he was being rescued… he showed off his very sweet, cuddly side immediately to his rescuer and foster! 🥹 But this boys eye and mouth were looking equally very rough. He needed a vet visit. So… cue his vet visit on Tuesday!

We learned at his visit that the extent of damage to his eye was beyond repair. He will need it removed. The vet suspects it was due to a puncture wound that became inflamed and infected deep in his eyeball, which cannot be managed through drops/medication. We also learned that he likely needs a full mouth extraction. About half of his teeth have already fallen out, and most of the remaining are fractured beyond repair. Fair to say he’s a roughed up Chicago boy.

Despite all this, Henry loves to spend his days cuddling with humans. He will happily climb up into any persons lap (including strangers) and purr into a nice snooze. We can only imagine what pain he’s gone through, but he doesn’t let his past determine his future. He’s dedicated to one thing: giving love to all of those around him.

Henry will need surgery for his eye and a full mouth dental, plus a full blood panel to ensure he’s healthy enough to go under anesthesia. Unfortunately this is very expensive even with rescue discounts. We’ve been quoted at $2,200. If you can spare any donation - even a few bucks - we would be so grateful! Just sharing his story too is so helpful.

Neo came to Forever Fortunate Felines from Chicago Animal Care and Control on New Year's Day after his owner had passed away. We were happy to give him a new start to 2025. He seemed to be doing well, but took a turn on Saturday. We took him to our hospital partner, Oak Elm, to help him get better for 2 days. He is back at his foster home now, and looking handsome! As long as his health continues on the upward trend, he will be posted for adoption in the next week or so! We are so thankful for our supporters! We recently welcomed Gordo to Forever Fortunate Felines. Gordo was a neighborhood stray that a kind foster took in once she realized how friendly he was. Such a happy, happy Friday! Our hearts are full. Finch/Kris Kringle has found his forever home, or really his forever family found him! Thanks to the support of donations and our intake network, Finch/Kris Kringle was saved from Chicago Animal Care and Control on Christmas Eve. He was given a deadline that same day to find placement, or be euthanized. We are forever thankful for our supporters and volunteers who have given him this chance at the happiest of lives, and for his forever family taking him home next week. Every cat matters! 💜

Before starting the celebrations to ring in the New Year, we want to send you our best wishes for the year to come and our gratitude and thanks for the wonderful 2024 we had!
