Just a quick heads up that Alisha & Zack will be out of office from August 26th - August 31st

While they will be abroad, rest assured that office staff will be available to assist you and we are still here to care for your pets and keep things running smoothly.

All scheduled visits will still be carried out and overseen, just please note that response times may be slightly delayed during this period, but we will do our best to get back to you as quickly as possible.

Although maybe not as often seen, here are some more fun facts, this time about Cat Tongue's

- Rough and Unique Texture: Cat tongues are covered in tiny, hook-like structures called papillae. These give their tongues a sandpaper-like texture, perfect for grooming fur and removing meat from bones.

- Grooming Experts: Cats spend a significant portion of their day grooming themselves, and their tongues play a crucial role. The rough surface helps them remove dirt, loose fur, and parasites, keeping their coats clean and healthy.

- Hydration Strategy: Unlike dogs, cats don’t lap water. Instead, they use their tongues to flick water up, quickly creating a column of liquid that they can drink. This method allows them to take in water efficiently!

- Taste Buds: Cats have about 470 taste buds, which is far fewer than humans (about 9,000). They are particularly sensitive to amino acids, which is why they are drawn to meat-based flavors.

- Self-Healing Saliva: Cat saliva contains proteins that can help promote healing. It’s one reason why you might see a cat licking its wounds—it’s an instinctual behavior that can help soothe injuries.

- Temperature Regulation: Cats don’t sweat like humans. Instead, they use grooming as a way to cool down, and their saliva evaporates off their fur, helping to regulate body temperature.

In case you were interested, here's just a few fun facts about dog tongues:

- Cooling Mechanism: Dogs don’t sweat like humans do. Instead, they cool off by panting, and their tongues help evaporate moisture, which cools them down!

- Unique Texture: A dog’s tongue is covered in tiny bumps called papillae, which help them grip food and water. This unique texture also assists in grooming and cleaning their fur.

- Taste Buds: Dogs have around 1,700 taste buds, compared to humans, who have about 9,000. While they may not be able to taste as many flavors as we do, they have a great sense of taste for certain things like meaty flavors!

- Color Indicators: A healthy dog’s tongue is usually pink. A blue or purple tongue can indicate a lack of oxygen, while a very red tongue could suggest inflammation or infection. If you notice changes in your dog’s tongue color, it’s best to consult a vet.

🐾 Happy Fresh Breath Day! 🐾

Keeping our furry friends' breath fresh is important for their overall health. To celebrate Fresh Breath Day, we're sharing an easy homemade treat recipe to help keep those doggy and kitty kisses smelling sweet! 🦷💕

Minty Fresh Breath Treats for Dogs and Cats

Ingredients:

- 1 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1 cup fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt (unsweetened)
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the chopped parsley, mint leaves, yogurt, and oats.
- Form Treats: Add water slowly and mix until the mixture forms a dough-like consistency. Roll into small balls or use cookie cutters for fun shapes.
- Chill: Place the treats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for 1-2 hours until firm.
