PAWS Shelter of Central Texas Founded in 1986, we are a No Kill shelter in Central Texas. PAWS is relentless in our effort to save lives and change lives.
(289)

We now have two locations to better serve our community.

- Kyle Campus - 500 FM 150E, Kyle, TX, 78640

- Dripping Springs Campus - 2965 FM 165, Dripping Springs, TX, 78620 Our efforts in that regard include:

•Holding offsite adoptions to get the animals out into the community.
•Fully vaccinating and microchipping our animals so that they can begin their long, happy lives with their new owners,

“fully equipped!”.
•Visiting local community groups and schools to educate our community on responsible pet ownership.
•Making sure that every animal in our care gets the medical attention it needs.
•Pioneering the Pets in Prison Program (also known as the Cell Dog Program) to help those dogs who have behavior issues that might hinder them in finding a loving family.
•Implementing a Behavior Testing Program which temperament tests all those in our care before they are adopted into the community, allowing for better placement of pets into a new home environment that is best for all.
•Spaying or neutering all our animals to further our commitment to be part of the solution in our communities’ pet overpopulation problem.

📣Donations needed.📣

Our Dripping Springs shelter would greatly appreciate your help keeping the dogs on a consistent diet of Purina One dry dog food. We are running pretty low and the pups' tummies would be ever so grateful for the "same old, same old". If you're looking for donation ideas, this would be a super helpful choice. We love you and thank you so much for any donations you would like to send our/their way! 🩷🩷🩷

Introducing our incredible volunteer, Kelsey Johnson! 🌟

Let's give a round of applause to Kelsey, who recently celebrated her one-year milestone as a devoted PAWS volunteer! 🎉👏 Rain or shine, you'll find her at our Kyle location, dedicating a minimum of 2 hours each weekend to walk our furry residents. With unwavering commitment, she braves temperatures ranging from 30 to 100 degrees, ensuring our pups get the exercise and love they deserve. But Kelsey's impact goes beyond the physical act of walking. She's a beacon of comfort and support for dogs who are scared or nervous, patiently building trust and acceptance. Her heart swells with pride as she witnesses the progress of younger pups, guiding them through their journey to good manners and socialization. And oh, the joy of adoption! Kelsey's eyes light up as she recounts the heartwarming stories of pups finding their forever homes. From Mustang, her first PAWS favorite, to the many others she's walked with and loved, Kelsey's dedication knows no bounds. But it's not just about the dogs; it's about the healing power of their companionship. For Kelsey, walking the dogs is more than just a chore—it's therapy. In those precious hours each week, life's stresses melt away, replaced by the pure joy of canine companionship. And let's not forget about Milo, Texas, Chinchilla, and Sunny—Kelsey's best buddies and personal favorites. Their wagging tails and playful antics bring a smile to her face, reminding her why she dedicates her time and energy to this noble cause.

So here's to you, Kelsey Johnson, a shining example of love, dedication, and compassion. Thank you for all that you do for our furry friends. You truly make the world a better place, one pawprint at a time. 🐾💖

Volunteer Spotlight🌟

We would like to introduce you to our Canines Who Care team! This wonderful team of dogs and their handlers are on a mission to make you smile! This group of volunteers visit local schools, hospitals, nursing homes, etc. to help spread smiles and good cheer where needed. This group, led by trainer Jyl Hirshman-Ross, has been around for years. Most recently, this dedicated group of handlers and their dogs were called to visit Tom Green Elementary School in Buda after a devastating school bus crash. The CWC handlers and dogs were at the school for weeks following the crash to help support the school children affected by the accident.

If you are interested in joining the CWC team, all potential therapy dogs should have their basic skills down and must attend all training classes and pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test. For more information on the CWC program, please visit the PAWS website at www.pawsshelter.org

Introducing PAWS Pet of the Week! 🥳⭐️

⚾️ Waylon, Male, 7 Month Old, 52 lbs, Mixed Breed (Medium):

His journey began when he was welcomed into the PAWS foster program at just 4 months old. From the start, Waylon found himself under the devoted care of a foster parent who opened her home and heart to him, along with her eclectic fur family. Living amongst other dogs, cats, and even brushing shoulders with livestock, Waylon quickly proved himself to be a social butterfly, effortlessly navigating various animal dynamics with grace and charm. But it's not just his social skills that shine; Waylon's intelligence is evident in his quick grasp of commands and impeccable house manners. Yet, it's his affectionate nature that truly steals hearts; nothing makes him happier than leaning his body weight against your legs, gently nudging for cuddles and pets.

With a solid foundation of crate-training and housebreaking, Waylon is more than ready to embark on his next adventure – finding his forever home. Equipped with a wealth of socialization experiences and an abundance of love to share, Waylon is eagerly awaiting the opportunity to become someone's loyal companion and furry best friend.

Waylon is available for adoption! Click the link to check out his profile and learn more about him: https://pawsshelter.org/dogsindripping/ &page=shelterluv_embed_150361706561802306%2Fembed%2Fanimal%2FPSCT-A-21401

Volunteer Spotlight!🌟

Meet one of our amazing volunteers, Lesa! Two years ago, after retiring, Lesa embarked on a beautiful journey of volunteering, and the impact she's made is truly remarkable. She's been a steadfast presence at offsite adoption events and fundraising activities, pouring her heart and soul into every task. Lesa's passion for these events shines through, whether there are adoptions or not. She understands the importance of giving shelter pups a break from their routine and exposing them to new experiences, all while spreading awareness for PAWS.

With a background in Project Management and Customer Service, Lesa's skills are perfectly aligned with her volunteer work. Her knack for crafting adds a special touch to everything she does, from making "Adopt Me" bandanas to embellishing T-shirts. Even the dreaded envelope stuffing doesn't deter her spirit! Despite not being able to spend much time at the shelter, Lesa's dedication remains unwavering. She may have a soft spot for Heelers, Australian Shepherds, and adorable puppies, but her love for all animals knows no bounds. Beyond her love for animals, Lesa's commitment to community shines bright. Her decision to volunteer with PAWS stems from a desire to give back to Dripping Springs, a place she's called home for 24 years.

Lesa's message resonates deeply: volunteering not only supports the shelter but also adds richness to one's life beyond the ordinary. She encourages others to step outside their comfort zones and join the cause, hoping they'll embrace it with the same dedication she does.

Thank you, Lesa, for your unwavering commitment and the joy you bring to both animals and humans alike.❤

Pinecone recently enjoyed a day trip with one of his favorite volunteers, Kyndal! Here's what she had to share about their time together:

"Pinecone seemed to be experiencing some added stress in the kennels, so I thought it would benefit him to have a short break and see how he adjusted to a home environment. He did wonderfully. We focused on associating going potty outside with lots of praise and love, and he responded really well to that kind of positive reinforcement. Pinecone is such a sweet boy. While he'll definitely benefit from some boundaries, he's still very young and has a lot of puppy energy in him. He bounced between being an excited puppy during playtime and a sleepy puppy that just wanted to rest next to you. I really got to see his sweet side once he was out of the kennels for a bit. He doesn’t seem to know any basic commands, so I'll continue to spend more time with him, giving him little breaks and working on building up his obedience using positive reinforcement techniques, especially with going potty outside. However, he wasn't interested in the sensitive kibble as a treat. Overall, Pinecone is a wonderful dog, and I see so much potential in him."

We're immensely thankful for our dedicated volunteers and foster families who offer our residents the chance to experience life outside the shelter. Their invaluable support includes sharing detailed home notes and providing essential insights that are often challenging to obtain within the shelter environment.

Pinecone is an 11 month old medium mixed breed! To learn more about Pinecone, visit our website pawsshelter.org !

Volunteer Spotlight! 🌟

Meet the Kuck family! Michelle and her daughters Jordan, Megan, and Sarah, began volunteering with PAWS when they moved to Dripping Springs in 2022. The Kuck family's profound love for animals led them to seek involvement in their new community. They initially started by walking and socializing the dogs at the shelter, along with assisting in off-site adoption events. However, they soon discovered their true passion - fostering! Over the past two years, they have fostered and found forever homes for 60 dogs and puppies. They even experienced a "foster failure" when they couldn't resist adopting Sunny Miami, one of their foster pups, last year.

The Kuck family encourages everyone to consider fostering, emphasizing its significant impact on shelter pets' lives. Even a few hours outside the shelter environment can make a world of difference, allowing animals to relax and shedding their kennel stress. They express immense gratitude for PAWS and cherish being part of such a wonderful community of animal lovers. They eagerly look forward to welcoming more volunteers at the shelter!

Thank you to the Kuck family for their dedication and for being shining examples of compassion and commitment to our organization and furry friends! 🐾❤

Introducing PAWS Pet of the Week! 🥳⭐️

👑 Duchess, Female, 10 Years Old:

Duchess is a regal, distinguished senior cat who often gets overlooked for her mature age. Adopted as a tender four-month-old from PAWS, Duchess has known nothing but the warmth of a loving home, showcasing impeccable manners and an innate affection for her human companions. However, her journey took an unexpected turn, returning to our care after a brief stay in an Austin shelter. The reasons for her surrender is unclear to us, but we doubt it's her own fault as she would be
a blessing to join anyone's family. Duchess's gentle demeanor remains steadfast, a testament to her resilient spirit and unwavering capacity for love.

While Duchess thrives as the only cat in her home, she has been able to coexist with other reserved cats at the shelter. As Duchess embarks on her quest for a forever home, she longs for a haven where she can reign supreme, her soft fur a canvas for tender caresses, her loyal heart a sanctuary for boundless affection. With her endearing charm and gentle spirit, Duchess promises to be an incomparable companion, bringing joy and tranquility to the fortunate souls who welcome her into their lives.

Our last two Pet of the Weeks found their forever homes within a week of being spotlit! We'd love to continue this trend and give Duchess a royal goodbye to spend her retirement in a loving home.

Duchess is available for adoption! Click the link to check out her profile and learn more about her: https://pawsshelter.org/catsinkyle/ &page=shelterluv_embed_150361706561263078%2Fembed%2Fanimal%2FPSCT-A-8641

Volunteer Spotlight!🌟

Introducing Daiza, a dedicated volunteer with seven years of service at PAWS. Beginning her volunteer work at the Kyle campus during the construction of the Dripping Springs facility, Daiza swiftly transferred upon its completion in 2019.

Her favorite activity at the shelter involves walking the dogs along its scenic trails, where she enjoys working on basic commands such as sit, down, and loose-leash walking. Over the years, Daiza has developed a fondness for many dogs, with her current favorite being the playful and goofy Deuce, whose antics never fail to bring joy to her day. In addition to dog walking, Daiza contributes to various aspects of shelter operations, including working with long-stay residents, teaching volunteer training classes, and maintaining volunteer hour records. Her commitment to the cause recently led her to collaborate with Fox News, where she began participating in monthly TV segments in February. Daiza has also extended her compassion beyond the shelter by fostering animals in need, including two medically fragile pups, two dogs seeking temporary shelter, and several 6-8 week old kittens, whom she finds particularly delightful and easy to care for.

Daiza's dedication to volunteering at PAWS exemplifies the spirit of compassion and community that defines the organization. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Daiza and all volunteers like her who selflessly devote their time and energy to improving the lives of shelter animals.❤️

Yesterday our Kyle and Dripping Springs campuses joined forces to support our county intake facility, San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter. With the shelter operating over capacity for more than 2 years, we've eagerly stepped in to assist, alleviating their load whenever possible. We are happy to share that we successfully welcomed 14 dogs and 5 adorable puppies into our care!

Please welcome Meeko, Salamander, Shakira, Leo, Venus, Little Lady, Anna, Zebrowski, Snoop Dogg, Freyja, Ragnarok, Oskie, Nani, Lilo, Funcle, Lenny, Connie, Trumpet and Rosie, to the PAWS family!❤️

Meet one of our very special pups, Xander!❤

Back in October of 2022, Xander was just another stray picked up by animal control, facing an uncertain fate on the euthanasia list. But fate intervened in the form of a caring foster, and PAWS stepped in to offer Xander the second chance he so deserved.

Despite the challenges of shelter life, his spirit shines bright. In foster homes, he's flourished, showcasing impeccable manners and a heart overflowing with love. He's the epitome of the perfect houseguest - potty trained, non-destructive, and brimming with personality. Toys are his joy and can often be seen carrying around his favorite toy. Yet, amidst playtime and adventures, he cherishes the quiet moments, relishing in cuddles and naps by your side. At 3 years old, Xander embodies the best of both worlds - youthful energy coupled with an appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He has experience living in a home with other dogs and can peacefully co-exist as long as he doesn't have to share his toys! Xander is a quick learner, mastering commands like sit with ease, eager to embark on new adventures and bond with his forever family.

Xander's journey is a testament to the power of love and second chances. Now, he's ready to start a new chapter with a forever family who will cherish him as he deserves. By opening your heart and home to Xander, you're not just adopting a pet; you're gaining a loyal companion who will fill your days with love and endless joy. Join us in making Xander's dreams come true. Together, let's give him the forever home he's been waiting for. We'd live to give spotlight to a very special volunteer, David!🌟

David began volunteering at PAWS in late July '23. His affinity for working with cats quickly became apparent, although he also finds joy in walking the dogs. Due to his schedule, spending time with the cats is more feasible for him, but on days with extra time, he dedicates himself to mowing and landscaping tasks. David's journey with PAWS began after he relocated to Kyle and took a position with Hays CISD. With summers off and his wife working out of state for several years, he sought a way to stay occupied while also contributing to the community. When he stumbled upon PAWS' call for volunteers, David saw an opportunity to aid both animals and people, driven by his love for animals. Though he refrains from having a favorite cat since they tend to be adopted within a week or two, each interaction leaves a lasting impression on him.

Thank you, David, for your commitment to the welfare of animals and your dedication to making a positive impact on your community. Your selflessness and compassion shine through in your volunteer work at PAWS, enriching the lives of both the animals in need and those who have the privilege of working alongside you.

Meet Crimson, our Pet of the Week! 🥳⭐

Crimson is a one year old cattle dog mix, ready to steal your heart! She is a submissive yet playful girl, full of energy and excitement. Crimson is always up for a game of fetch, a walk, or even a hike. Lately, she's been showing interest in water and swimming, making her the perfect adventure buddy. But don't worry, if you're in the mood for some relaxation, Crimson is happy to snuggle up on the couch too.

She's a toy enthusiast and enjoys sharing them with other dogs, displaying her friendly and sociable nature. Crimson is not only potty trained and crate trained but is also learning basic commands like sit and stay. Plus, she's treat-motivated and has excellent recall when off-leash, making training a breeze. Crimson gets along well with cats and kids, however, she's a bit shy around younger children and would thrive in a home with older kids or animal companions. With her sweet disposition and adaptable nature, Crimson would make a fantastic addition to any loving home.

Crimson is one of our long stay residents and has spent nearly all of her life in our system. We are hoping to make this year Crimson's best and find her the forever home she deserves! To learn more about Crimson, visit her online profile- link in bio!❤

Volunteer Spotlight!🤩

Meet our surgery recovery volunteer team! Each week, Lorry Brown, Leslie Brooks, Sarah Brandon & Jackie Kort take care of the PAWS animals post op. It’s important that our animals get undivided attention while recovering from anesthesia and this group does it with ease. This retired dedicated group of women worked a total of 12,643 hours in our surgery recovery room in 2023!

More than a thousand animals pass through the PAWS surgery suite each year and we are grateful for the work & compassion each of these women bring to PAWS each week. Lorry, Leslie, Sarah & Jackie truly are “super heroes” of the recovery room.❤️

One of our long stay residents, Gil, recently had a much needed shelter break with one of his favorite volunteers! Shelter breaks provide us with very important information on how a dog does outside of the shelter environment, which is key to ensuring they are placed in the right home.

Here is what one of our volunteers, Amy, had to say about their time spent together:

"After I picked Gil up, I brought him to my house where he spent a little while exploring inside. I let him out in the backyard where he was so excited to be able to run around. He ran the full length of the yard a few times, then settled down and explored outside. We went for a walk in the park later. There were quite a few people walking. Gil was a little overwhelmed and had his tail tucked. We stepped off the trail when there were too many people approaching, then kept going when they passed. We found a big rock for him to hang out on (He loves big rocks!) away from the crowd, and he was more relaxed. Gil was happy at mealtime and ate his food quickly. He had no problem with me walking near him while he was eating. In fact, I reached around him to fill his water bowl and he had no issues with that. He is fully house trained, letting me know when it was time to go outside. I had a friend come over while Gil was here. I hooked a leash on him and had her come inside. He was a little cautious at first, but he approached her slowly, smelled her, and decided that she was ok, and was soon licking her face. We took a trip to Lowe’s. He walked all around the store and was relaxed doing so. He smelled some plants in the gardening section and wasn’t concerned with the people there. He is a giant bed hog. He slept all night without getting up and did his business in the morning. He loves to sit with you on the couch while he plays with his toy. He loves squeaky toys! He didn’t make a peep the entire time I had him. No barking, crying, whining, nothing. Gil is a big sweetheart with so much love to give. He is a little apprehensive with people he doesn’t know, so he needs some time and space to get to know them. A perfect family will have a yard to give him room to get his energy out, but also take him on walks, so he can explore and find the perfect big rock!" ❤

Gil has been at our Kyle campus for over 6 months and has been very patiently awaiting someone to come in and choose him to be apart of their family. If you or someone you know may be the right fit for Gil, please consider this sweet boy!
