PAWS Shelter of Central Texas Founded in 1986, we are a No Kill shelter in Central Texas. PAWS is relentless in our effort to save lives and change lives.

We now have two locations to better serve our community.

- Kyle Campus - 500 FM 150E, Kyle, TX, 78640

- Dripping Springs Campus - 2965 FM 165, Dripping Springs, TX, 78620 Our efforts in that regard include:

•Holding offsite adoptions to get the animals out into the community.
•Fully vaccinating and microchipping our animals so that they can begin their long, happy lives with their new owners,

“fully equipped!”.
•Visiting local community groups and schools to educate our community on responsible pet ownership.
•Making sure that every animal in our care gets the medical attention it needs.
•Pioneering the Pets in Prison Program (also known as the Cell Dog Program) to help those dogs who have behavior issues that might hinder them in finding a loving family.
•Implementing a Behavior Testing Program which temperament tests all those in our care before they are adopted into the community, allowing for better placement of pets into a new home environment that is best for all.
•Spaying or neutering all our animals to further our commitment to be part of the solution in our communities’ pet overpopulation problem.

Adoption Spotlight: Olive (formerly My Melody) 🎉

Remember the adorable litter of 10 Sanrio-named puppies we had? We’re thrilled to share that all of them, including My Melody, have found their forever homes! 🐾💖

Here’s an update from Olive’s loving family:

"We absolutely adore Olive! She has settled in extremely well to our home and new routine. She loves big zoomies in the yard and is already very comfortable napping on our couch! Olive gets along so well with her corgi brother, Craig. They play non-stop and have even started cuddling together! Walks with Craig are one of Olive's favorite activities.

We’re working through some puppy teething, but Olive has been easily redirected to toys and is doing great with training. She’s already met some other fully vaccinated pups and handled it like a champ! Our vet loved her during her first appointment, and she’s all set for her final vaccine update this Wednesday.

Thank you so much for helping us find Olive. We’re absolutely obsessed with her and couldn’t be happier to welcome her into our family!"

This week we want to highlight another amazing dog who continues to get overlooked. Indiana is a staff favorite at our Dripping Springs campus but has been looking for his people for over 200 days. We want to change that for him.

Here is what you need to know about this handsome pup: 👇

✨Gives FULL-BODY hugs
✨Does great with dogs!
✨LOVES water and hiking
✨Smartie pants alert (knows sit, shake, and come!)
✨Potty trained (told you he’s smart! 😉)
✨Does well in a kennel (sleeps quietly all night in it) and has great house manners
✨LOVES people and kids ages 10+
✨Has been around livestock and horses and could care less
✨No cats please (he believes dogs are the superior species 🤷‍♂️)
✨Known for getting some serious cases of “wiggle-booty”
✨Indiana does take a little bit of time to warm up to new people (preferring women over men), but once you are in his inner circle, you are IN! He can’t help that he’s a ladies’ man!

We’ve all heard the expression “good things come to those who wait.” Well, the same goes with Indiana. Mojito’s Journey: Why We Never Give Up! ❤

When Mojito arrived at PAWS as a newborn kitten, his odds didn’t look great. Just a week old, he came to us with six littermates and a host of challenges. His left eye was ruptured, and his right eye severely infected. But at PAWS, we don’t give up—especially not on tough cases like Mojito’s.

Over the following months, Mojito received round-the-clock care. Our team worked tirelessly to prevent pain and further infection, keeping him comfortable and closely monitored. As his left eye began to heal, his right eye became cloudy. Before his scheduled ophthalmology visit, his right eye ruptured, and the only choice to ensure Mojito’s quality of life was surgery to remove both eyes.

Thanks to the dedication of our medical team, Mojito made an incredible recovery. Now fully adjusted to life without sight, he navigates his world with ease, using his other senses to explore, play, and seek out cuddles. He’s a resilient, clever, and affectionate kitten, bringing joy to everyone he meets.

🐾 Over 600 Lives Saved in 2024 🐾

As of today, PAWS Shelter of Central Texas has proudly saved over 600 animals through our partnerships with shelters and rescues across the state. From preventing euthanasia to offering life-saving care, we’ve been on a mission to give second chances to animals in need.

This year, we worked with 25 shelter partners, pulling dogs and cats from situations where their futures were uncertain. These efforts aren’t limited to Central Texas though. To increase our impact, we have extended our reach far and wide to save lives all over the state, proving that every animal deserves a chance at happiness, no matter where they are.

These 600 lives include dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens who found more than just shelter—they found hope. Through the dedication of our team, volunteers, fosters, and supporters, they’ve been given the care and compassion they deserve.

Leading up to this global day of giving, we'd like to highlight one of the most vital and costly services we provide, heartworm treatment.

Heartworms are tiny parasites with a huge impact, making life a painful and life-threatening ordeal for dogs. For many, untreated heartworms mean a grim future. But at PAWS Shelter of Central Texas, we never give up on them.

Take Locket, for example. This sweet girl came to us with heartworms, one of themany dogs we’ve rescued and treated over the years. Heartworm treatment is costly up to —$1,500 per dog— and involves a lengthy 4-month long treatment and recovery process. It’s a challenging road, but one worth taking to give dogs like Locket a second chance at life.

Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes and are entirely preventable with regular heartworm prevention medication. For dogs already infected, treatment is complex and hard on their bodies, but without it, heartworms can cause irreversible damage to the heart, lungs, and other organs.

As a small nonprofit, medical bills can be daunting BUT that will never stop us from giving our pets the medical care they need and deserve. 🐶

Earlier this year, our dedicated kennel staff noticed that one of our long stay dogs, TJ, had a swollen and painful tongue and jaw. He lost his appetite and was not acting like himself. It was clear that he was in pain.

Before it got worse, our medical team rushed him to Firehouse Veterinary Hospital where we were told he had a Ranula, which is a cyst that forms under the tongue. Unfortunately, his salivary gland was damaged somehow, causing his saliva to leak into the surrounding tissue, causing the painful cyst. With TJ’s quality of life in mind, our team made the decision to have it removed.

Since then, TJ has made a full recovery and although he is still looking for a home, he is back to enjoying the finer things in life. Which in doggy language, means all the yummy treats! 🦴

At PAWS, we stand by our pets for life no matter what. It does not matter if they come back years later OR if they come back with medical problems. They are family to us, and we do not give up on family. 🐶

This is exactly what happened to Tagalong. Two and a half years after being stolen from our care, she made her way back to us, where we were horrified by her appearance. She was not in good shape and parts of her head were sunken-in. It was very clear that the person who stole her did not provide her with proper veterinary care. 💔

After getting her into our veterinarian, she was diagnosed with Masticatory Myositis. This is an immune related condition that had, sadly, moved past the treatable phase and into the chronic phase. It affects the masticatory muscles, or the muscles used for chewing, by causing muscle loss. Although she will have this condition for the rest of her life, she does not let it slow her down or affect her happiness. With proper care and management, Tagalong can live a happy and healthy life. Which is exactly what we gave her until she was adopted just last month! 🥰
