We wish all stories could be happy but this is an innately sad business. Meet Tagalong. This little sweetie was born in our care and raised by a wonderful foster. After 8 weeks, she found a new foster who subsequently stole Tagalong from us. After months of trying to get her back, we were ultimately unsuccessful. Last week, though, Tagalong was finally returned into our care. Sadly, she has an obvious medical condition. Our veterinarian gave her a preliminary diagnosis of Masticatory Myositis. It is an immune-mediated, inflammatory condition that affects the muscles of mastication (the chewing muscles). The initial phases are painful but treatable. Unfortunately, the person who stole her never sought treatment of any kind and now Tagalong has moved into the chronic, and untreatable, phase. Fortunately, she is no longer believed to be experiencing pain from the condition, but she will forever be disfigured. As hard as it is to think, oftentimes our shelter is a better situation for these pets. At PAWS, Tagalong will receive every kind of care she needs to give her the best life going forward. Your donations through #AmplifyAustin will allow us to care for Tagalong and so many more just like her. Please consider making a donation today *Amplify ATX is over but you can still help here: pawsshelter.org/donate.

Day in the Life of a Shelter Dog • Annie and Jones. Annie and Jones are beautiful 4 year old hound mixes who were pulled from the San Marcos shelter. These beautiful dogs were saved by the county from a home with 30 dogs. They have been rehabilitating and enjoying their exposure to more and more real world kindnesses, but would benefit from a patient home that can teach them how to be inside dogs as they’ve lived a lot of their lives outside. They’d love to go to their forever home together as they find a lot of support in each other after all they’ve been through, but they would also be successful living with another dog friend to teach them how to live the good dog life. We do the very best to give each animal in our care the best day to day lives, but a shelter is not a home. These two are so ready to finally live the good life in their forever homes! If you’re interested in fostering or adopting these wonderful dogs, please reach out to us!
Guess what?
