Fallon has been with us for over a year. She loves one on one attention. Our adult cats are always the last to be picked. We are so fortunate to have a foster mom that gives her the love and attention she desires. Hopefully she'll find the perfect home soon.

POTENTIAL ADOPTERS PLEASE READ! We are getting several messages asking us why we require our kittens to either have an existing young playful cat friend in their forever home or be adopted in pairs. This is not something we will be changing.

LONG POST .... But worth the read. We will even add a few more links at the bottom to more articles and videos for added info.
** We will always do what is in the best interest of the cats and kittens in care.**

Our goal and responsibility is to do the very best we can to place our cats and kittens in an adoptive home that is suited for them and their adopters. We want the people and families who are adopting to be happy with their kitties and ensure they are going to a forever home. 😻

For example, if any are bonded, they will only be adopted as a pair, if any are not suitable for young children, they will not be placed in a home with young kids. If they are afraid of dogs, they will not be placed in a home with dogs. We have a responsibility to them and their adoptive families.

When we put kittens up for adoption, we tend to get questions from adopters when told our policies regarding adopting two kittens (ESPECIALLY if there are no other cats in the home). We are not doing it to unload cats or "make more money". (We can assure you, we don't profit whatsoever with our $200 adoption fee). We do it for these solid reasons (Courtesy of Urban Cat Relief):

1. One kitten can become lonely.
A kitten left alone during the day can become lonely and bored, which sometimes can lead to mischief and destruction in the house. Two kittens will never be lonely and keep each other busy. Especially siblings .... In fact, some are bonded and must get adopted together.

2. Two kittens will "self-train."
Kittens learn by copying. If one kitten is quick to learn appropriate litter box use, the other will be likely to copy. They also help each other with grooming; wash-up after meals soon becomes a ritual with two kittens. And they learn to limit their biting and scratching as they test it on each other.

3. They help each other burn off energy.
Even the most devoted cat parent can quickly become exhausted by trying to keep up with the energy of a single kitten. Two kittens will wear each other out, leaving their human free to just enjoy watching them.

4. Fewer behavior problems with two kittens.
Many people who experience behavior problems with kittens find that some of them go away when they adopt another playmate to keep them occupied.

5. One kitten can just drive an older cat nuts.
Although it might sound contrary, an older, established cat will probably accept two kittens better than one. One kitten will seek out the older cat as a playmate, or worse, tease and pester the senior cat which can cause stress to an older cat. The kitten in return, will be "rewarded" for his playful efforts with hisses and swats. Two kittens will expend their energy in play with each other, leaving their older kitty to relax in peace.

6. And You'll save two lives instead of one. ❤

So many people say “but I only want one. Why do I need 2 kittens?” Of course, if you have a young, friendly and playful adult cat in the home already, you may not “need” another kitten. But as most in Rescue know, there is something called “SINGLE KITTEN SYNDROME “ (a quick google search shows PLENTY of shelters and rescues all over who follow this advice). Kittens do best with another feline in their lives. Like the infants of any species, kittens learn about being a cat by interacting with other cats. As long as the adult cat in your home is accepting a new baby in the house, they can be great at teaching the little ones the ropes. But kittens love to play, and they learn so much by their play. So many single kittens develop habits that cost them their homes later in life – when they are no longer tiny and cute. (Habits like playing too rough with their humans. It’s not so bad when a little baby grabs your hand and bites – but when they are older it HURTS. When kittens wrestle and play with each other, if it hurts and the one cries – the biter stops.)

Of course, let's not forget that having two kittens is insanely fun. They are just so much darn fun to watch! They provide your daily entertainment.
😘😻

Meet Seahawk, a big, friendly male cat with a heart as adventurous as his spirit! Found wandering around the UNCW campus by Animal New Hanover Sheriff's Office Animal Services Unit, Seahawk is a true people-cat who thrives on human companionship and attention. This energetic boy has a bit more wanderlust than the average kitty; he’s not quite content with just the foster room and catio and would likely do well in a home where he can safely explore both indoors and out.
Seahawk would make a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys spending time outdoors and would love a cat by their side—whether it’s gardening, working in the garage, or just relaxing in the yard. After a careful acclimation period to get him familiar with his new home, Seahawk would be the perfect cat to follow you around during outdoor activities, then settle in for cozy indoor time. If you’re looking for a loyal, active companion who loves both playtime and people, Seahawk is ready to join your family!

HALLOWEEN CAT GIFT BASKET - FUNDRAISER FOR JUVIE

Meet Juvie, a feral cat who lives in Sunset Park with his mom, Shasta. Juvie is 3.5 years old & was abandoned by his owner who sold his house & moved away a few years ago. As many do, housecats & strays tend to revert to feral behaviors in order to survive. Fortunately, a very kind neighbor noticed how thin Juvie & Shasta started looking, so she set-up a feeding station for the clearly bonded duo. Their coats were matted, they were emaciated & Juvie was having difficulty chewing dry kibble. The caretaker, an experienced trapper, knew immediately his mouth was in bad shape and he needed to see a veterinarian quickly. He was constantly drooling & his jaw has been chattering with intense pain.

Juvie & Shasta were trapped together by their feeder & caregiver. The duo have been placed with a medical foster who is keeping them together until we can raise enough money for his dental needs. The veterinarian estimates the dental to be between $1200 - $1400. For now, we are managing Juvie's pain, supplementing their diets & have given flea & worm treatments. We desperately need to raise funds for Juvie's dental work so he & Shasta can retire to a life indoors where they will be safe & warm this winter & every day for the rest of their lives. Their generous caregiver is on a fixed income & has offered to give them a pampered life indoors so long as we can get Juvie's dental work done. So, WE'RE HAVING A HIGHEST BID AUCTION!

A local artist has donated handmade goods in this beautiful gift basket. Friends of Felines will be accepting bids until October 30th at 10 pm. To place a bid, please put it in the comment section. The highest bidder will be contacted via PM for payment arrangements & pick-up details.

If you want to make a donation directly for Juvie’s dental, please go to our website friendsofelines.org/donate.
