Finding Fido is a very small, foster based rescue in Cleveland, TN which honors the life of a distemper survivor Fido. We take in animals in need of homes, fully vet them (neuter, vaccinate, treat any existing injuries/illnesses, and microchip), and then find them the perfect home. All of our animals stay in our home until they are adopted, so they are used to a home environment and learn appropri

ate house manners. Our goal is for each of our animals to find the best fitting home for them and their new adopters so that they never find themselves homeless again. Our founder has personally fostered over 70 animals for various organizations and strays since 2016. All of our animals are paid for out of the founder's pocket and adoption fees. Our adoption process:
Step 1: Fill out the adoption application. This is a way for us to get to know you and your household a little bit so we can begin the process of deciding if you'll be the right fit for the animal you're interested in and vice versa. It is not an agreement that you'll adopt that particular animal or a guarantee that'll you'll be approved to adopt that particular animal.
-For Cats: https://forms.gle/usjMC8nrLRzk5YoYA
-For Dogs: https://forms.gle/isiN9tGNiaWein1j7)
Step 2: Meet and Greet! We will set up a time for you to meet your potential new family member. This is done at your home so we are able to see how they interact in the environment they'll be living in and if there are any pets currently living in the home, we like to see if they'll accept your new family member. Step 3: Pay the Adoption Fee. This is typically done at the meet and greet, but if you need more time to decide if the pet will be a good fit, we absolutely understand and encourage a family discussion as adopting a new pet is a big commitment! The adoption fees vary from animal to animal.

HAPPY FERAL FRIDAY!

This cute little bobtailed male is #5 of this colony to be neutered! We saw 3 others on the cat cams this week as well as 2 new ones across the street. The heat seems to be keeping them hiding. Annoyingly, this colony seems absolutely determined to be neutered one at a time, but we're making a difference slowly, but surely!

BIG Thank you to everyone who has donated thus far! The next neuter date is September 4th. It is $15 per cat. Please help us continue to help this colony!

HAPPY FERAL FRIDAY (A little late)

This feral fella was neutered yesterday! Thanks again for the kindness of our community here. This colony seems determined to be caught one at a time, but every cat neutered is thousands of cats saved! We'll keep chipping away until the whole colony is fixed. Four down, many to go!

HAPPY FERAL FRIDAY!

Thanks to the generous donations from Beverly Hornbeck, Katie Glen, and Sheila Holsapple, we have this fella, and the next 5 ferals covered! We could not be more thankful, and while the individual cats may not appreciate us, the colony will be much healthier because of your donations!

We've affectionately dubbed this little guy Skunky because of his distinct stripe. These cats seem determined to make us neuter them one at a time, but there is another neuter date in 2 weeks, and we're hoping to catch multiple cats before then. Seems like every day there's a new cat, but slowly, we're reducing the future population potential!

Skunky also had an abscess on his arm, and he was able to have his wound cleaned and received antibiotics while he was sedated. We can't thank the team at PPAWS and Sherry Crawford enough for taking good care of these ferals!

FERAL FRIDAYS!

After a few failed trapping attempts and a few successfully captured opossums (released, of course), we have been able to neuter our first feral! This handsome lad is a bit angry with us, but he's now safely recovering. He will be released in a week or so. He'll no longer be contributing to the population and is vaccinated for rabies as well!

There are many more in need of neutering! Please donate anything you can. It costs $70 per cat for us to spay/neuter and vaccinate for rabies.

BIG Thanks to Beverly Hornback for covering this fellas procedure! We can't afford to help this situation without donations!

Introducing FERAL FRIDAYS!

We don't typically ask for donations, and we don't usually do cats, but we've been made aware of a serious feral cat problem, and we can't handle this one on our own. There are about 60 cats free roaming, and kitten season is upon us! We're going to try to get as many neutered as quickly as possible in order to prevent having to neuter, socialize, and rehome kittens in the near future.

We're looking into various resources, but our current fastest option is $70 per cat. We may be able to get them into another clinic at the end of the month for $35/cats, but that's not a guarantee, and who knows how many kittens could be born between now and then!

Our first available appointment is Tuesday May 14th! It'll be $70 for this cat.

PLEASE help us help these cats! Every dollar counts!!

The world lost an incredible dog today. Biscuit (AKA Dixie) came to us in 2021 at 14 years old when her owner could no longer care for her. She was loved, but in rough shape, and honestly, I wasn't sure how long we'd have her. Well, she surprised us all as with time, she lost weight, grew her hair back, and began even running around with the younger dogs. Biscuit had personality for days, and while she was not a low maintenance old lady, she was always a joy and kept us laughing. Sweet and sassy with a mind of her own and never afraid to tell you her opinion. You never knew if she was going to give you a nose kiss or a nose bite when you picked her up for a cuddle. She outlived several seniors we've adopted after her, and we frequently joked that Biscuit would outlive us all. Unfortunately, her body started betraying her. She let us know it was time, and as much as we miss our girl, she deserved only the best. So we had a great day at the park with cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, fries, and of course chocolate. She took a great nap, and we sent her over the rainbow bridge. She was nearly 17 years old, but the 2 years and 9 months she spent with us weren't long enough. Love you, Bisky. Say hi to the Fido Fam up there for us. We'll see you again someday ❤️

ADOPTED!

April 6th will mark FOUR MONTHS that this absolute doll of a dog has been with us! Athena is a Great Dane/lab. I know she's just a "boring" black and "too small" for most Great Dane lovers at only 75 lbs, but surely SOMEONE is looking for a loving, smart, sassy, playful cuddle buddy! She's what I'd consider the perfect age at 3 years old. Out of the puppy stage, but still young and vibrant. Playful enough to be fun, but old enough to be totally happy napping around the house while you're at work.

Loves: Dogs of all sizes. People of all sizes! Has only been around a newborn and a 10 month old briefly and was very curious and pretty gentle.

Unknowns: How she'll do with cats, but I suspect she'll be just fine.

Pros: Fully vetted, house trained, crate trained, super duper cuddly! Understand that the outside is for play and the inside is for naps.

Cons: Tail is the perfect height to bag tag your husband 😅

Requirements: Fenced Yard & Lots of love to give.

Located in Morristown, TN, but we offer transport within reason to the perfect home!

If this sounds like the dog for you, please fill out our adoption application: https://forms.gle/isiN9tGNiaWein1j7

ADOPTED!

Athena is still looking for a home of her own! Ideally, with someone who loves to cuddle.

Athena is a 3 year old Great Dane/Lab

This girl is just a joy to have around. She's all the fun of a Great Dane, but at about 80% of the size. She's shorter than a full Dane and about 80 lbs. She can be a bit shy at first, but once she is comfortable, her silly personality just lights up the room! She is a medium energy girl who spends a lot of time chilling on the couch, but has spurts of playfulness. She LOVES to cuddle. She also loves to play and does well with dogs of all sizes and ages. She hasn't been around cats, as far as I know, but would probably try to play with them. She hasn't been around children much either. I don't think she'd hurt one on purpose, but would likely knock small ones down on accident. She's pretty good about not jumping on people, but does like to jump around people when excited.

Fenced yard is required!

She is fully vetted: spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, HW negative and on preventions for HW, fleas, and ticks. She is house trained and was crate trained when younger, but we haven't crated her recently. She does great loose in the house.

Located in Morristown, TN. We transport (reasonable distances) for the perfect home. If you think this sweet girl is the perfect fit for you, please fill out our adoption application here: https://forms.gle/isiN9tGNiaWein1j7

The Tale of 2 Lost Dogs:

A few weeks ago, we found 2 unfamiliar dogs walking down our very dangerous backroad. Naturally, we stopped and picked them up. Neither had a collar or any outward form of identification.

The dog on the left, who we now know as Buster, was microchipped! We called the company, the company called the owner, the owner called us, and we had him back to his home within 2 hours of being found..

The dog on the right did not have a microchip. We immediately made a post and shared it far and wide on Facebook, Pawboost, and NextDoor. Reached out to the local shelters, they shared our posts and kept their ears open in case an owner came looking for her... and we waited. The 7 day stray hold rolled around without any word from an owner or suggestions of where she may belong, so we started the vetting and adoption process. We named her Pumpkin. She was vetted and posted for adoption. 16 days after she initially went missing, and her owner happened upon her adoption ad and reached out! We now know her name is Gorda, and she is back home with her loving family.

Both of these dogs were many miles away from their homes. Both of these lost dogs had a happy ending. This time. The harsh reality, though, is that if Gorda had been adopted faster, then her family possibly never would have known where she ended up.

The stray hold in TN is only 7 days, and legally, the dog belongs to the finder when that clock runs out. Once the stray hold is up, the previous owner has no claims to that dog. Some shelters in TN only hold dogs without identification for 3 days before posting them for adoption. If she had ended up at an overcrowded shelter instead of a rescue, she could've been at risk of being euthanized.

Moral of the story: Identification is crucial on dogs. Always. They need to always wear a collar with identification AND be microchipped! Collars can fall off or be removed. Microchips are there forever.

There are lots of places to get your pets microchipped: vets office, most low cost spay/neuter clinics, some shelters, and we do as well!

For $15 we offer in home microchipping with a free lifetime registration. Local to Morristown, TN only.

PLEASE MICROCHIP YOUR PETS!

Update: Reunited with original family ❤️

Pumpkin is ready for a home!

She is a corgi mix, and we're guessing she is around 1-2 years old. She is 25 lbs.

Now, the full honest truth is that Pumpkin is full of the sass and attitude that Corgi owners know and love. It's very clear that she was rarely, if ever, given boundaries before arriving here. This has resulted in her being kinda an a**hole. That said, she has made great strides in just the week she has been with us, so she is more than capable of learning to reach her full good girl potential. She needs a home who understands the ways of the Corgi, and willing to put in the effort to reach that potential.

Her main issue is she is food aggressive. This has been "remedied" easily enough by feeding her separately from the other dogs, but it will pop up while filling her dish if other dogs are around, and she will snap at people as well as dogs who attempt to get near her food while she eats. No issues once the bowl is empty.

She has done Okay-ish with the other dogs here. She initially targeted our female Corgi mix, cornering her and being snappy towards her a few times, but that has seemed to stop with corrections. She has not shown this behavior with the larger female in the home (whom she adores) or the males (1 her size, 2 are larger) so I suspect it's a personality clash between these two specifically or she is prone to bully females her size. She can learn to live harmoniously in a pack, but it will take supervision and being an active leader to keep her in check.

We do not have cats or children, but do not recommend a home with either.

If you made it this far, time for the good stuff. Obviously, she's beyond freaking adorable. She is also just as sweet as she can be a butthead (a very Corgi trait). She loves to cuddle, has the goofyest little happy dance, and really has just the most precious personality. She's a nice medium energy level. Enjoys a good run around the yard and has a ball playing with our young male heeler, but is also happy curled up on the couch and just chilling most of the day. She is housetrained for the most part. Occasionally she'll have a p*e accident, but that just boils down to learning the routine here. She hasn't been destructive. She will steal nylabones if given the opportunity, but she's not a resource guarder of toys.

She is fully vetted: spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, Heartworm negative, and on monthly Flea/tick/heartworm preventions.

Fenced yard is required. No exceptions.

Located in Morristown, TN, but we transport reasonable distances for the perfect home.

UPDATE: Tranferred to Rescue!

This cutie patootie is Dozer. He recently lost his human mom, and a nice lady took him in, but he needs a permanent home. He is 8 years, about 8 pounds, fixed, was told UTD on shots, and he's house broke, and p*epads broke. Understandably, he's a bit nervous the first couple of days, but is now settling in well. He's definitely a cuddly guy who would love to be his new person's lap buddy. At first he showed some food aggression, but he seems to have chilled on that, and now takes his turn with the other 5 dogs in the foster home. For a Chihuahua, he doesn't mind going potty when it's raining! No problem with cats. He walks well on a leash. He's just a real good baby. I got 5 already 1 cat so I'm full. No problem with children. But would be nice to place with an older single person or couple or a family with older kids.

Located in Cleveland, TN. If you think he's a good fit for you, we could work out transportation within reasonable distances.

2.5 weeks is not what we had in mind when we said "extended leave"... BUT when we say we take back our dogs for life, we mean it. Unfortunately, Athena's owner is having a hard time and ended up surrendering her to the Humane Education Society (HES) in Chattanooga. Thank God they checked her for a chip, and our chip company alerted us that she was found! That was yesterday. Today, we were able to bail her out, and she's back home safely with us.

We're sad she's back, but SO thankful we were alerted. She'll be available for adoption after she has some time to decompress and we get her up to date on vaccines. If anyone is looking for a mini house horse, please send them our way!

***No hateful comments about the owner. It's an unfortunate situation, but being mean helps no one. Athena is safe, and that's all that matters..

Due to several personal life changes, we are taking an extended break from rescue. All of our dogs have been adopted out. We will be happy to post lost/found dogs and dogs in need of rehoming, but we will not be taking any dogs in for the foreseeable future. As always, we're still here to support our adopters, so please reach out if you need anything!

Thank you for understanding and wanting to adopt. If you're looking for a specific type of dog, we're happy to guide you towards other organizations with dogs available.

9 years ago today, I fell in love with the dog who started it all. The Australian Shepherd I always wanted. Despite his quirks, he was perfect. So full of life, and joy. He had no idea he was different. We spent hours running in the soccer field next to the Humane Society together. It wasn't until 5 years later I was able to finally bring him home, and he wasn't an easy dog, but I sure wish I could have him back. It's been 3 years without him now. Our little guy survived distemper, and had a life of seizures, and mobility issues. As odd as it sounds, it was a true triumph for him to be taken by cancer as a senior dog.

I'll always love you, Fido. We Rescue because of you.

ADOPTED
Corum is a 1 year old lab/Hound who is still looking for his forever home. He's the big goofy type, and a bit misunderstood. He's really not that big, at only 65ish lbs, but sure feels big when he sits his voluptuous rump on your lap. Touching you is going to be his favorite activity, so if you don't like dogs on your couch, he's not the guy for you.

Corum is very much a big loveable dumb-dumb. Truly, you won't find a sweeter boy. That said, he has some insecurities that he's going to need to work through, and he needs a family who understands that dogs take time to become comfortable in a new environment. He's 100% a dog who needs to have a 2 week decompression period, and possibly longer. Similar to a pouting teenage boy he will test your commitment during that settling in period. If you just give him the time, I promise he'll be your forever best friend.

Corum loves other dogs. Not every dog loves him. Probably because he's 65 lbs of "PLEASE PLAY WITH ME". His best friends during the stay at the rescue have all been females around the same age and smaller than him. We'll do a meet and greet with any dogs, just saying most older dogs find him annoying. He has made great strides in learning to leave them alone though.

He's only been around kids very briefly, but small kids did make him nervous. Older kids or no kids is probably best. He's also only had very short interactions with cats. He'd probably want to chase them. I think he could learn to live with them, but that will take effort.

Genuinely, Corum is a good boy. We've been fostering him for over 4 months now, and he's well overdue for a forever home of his own. He's actually one of those highly trainable dumb-dumbs. You know, the kind that LOVES trick training, but still runs into the glass door on a regular basis.

He is of course fully vetted (neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, HW Neg & on HW/Flea/Tick prevention). Housetrained, crate trained.

Fenced yard required, no exceptions.

Located in Morristown, TN. We transport for the perfect home.

If you think Corum is your boy, please apply to adopt here: https://forms.gle/isiN9tGNiaWein1j7

ADOPTER OR FOSTER STILL NEEDED!

Corum has been enjoying his outings away from the boarding facility. Today we went to Tractor Supply and he made friends with the nice lady behind the counter with all the treats.

He’s settled into boarding. The environment is a lot, but I don’t think that was the problem so much as he just has a hard time with transitions. He’s only barely a year old and has lived in at least 3 homes, probably more, plus a boarding facility, and that instability has given him the need to have to defend himself in new spaces with new people. This comes off initially as reactivity, but really he is just one of those dogs who truly needs a 2 week “shutdown” to decompress when he goes into a new home. Once he knows he’s somewhere to stay he settles in and shows his truly wonderful personality.

So this 1 year old, 65 lb lab mix is still looking for his forever home! He’s a sweet, goofy dorkasaraus who loves people, especially ladies. He loves to play with other dogs, and would thrive with another young dog to play with. Older dogs tend to find him rather annoying. Small children make him nervous, but the only interaction he’s had with them was during a very stressful transition. I think he’d like older kids. He’s had very few interactions with cats, and could probably be trained to coexist with them.

His ideal home would be with fairly active humans who enjoy trick training and cuddling. He absolutely requires a fully fenced in yard. He is fully vetted, house and crate trained.

***FOSTER OR ADOPTER STILL NEEDED***

Mr. Corum was able to get out of boarding for a bit today and take a nice walk in the park. He’s still very nervous in boarding, but is learning to trust the workers there. Field trips help, but it’d still be much more ideal for him to stay with a foster. If you’re able to house this handsome boy for a few weeks, please reach out!

Located in Cleveland, TN, but foster can be anywhere within a 1.5 hour range. No small children. Must have a fenced yard. Can have dogs, but recommend he stay separate for a bit while he decompresses. Cats are a bit iffy.

SOS EMERGENCY FOSTER NEEDED!!

Corum is in boarding, and quite frankly he's handling it very poorly. Our typically sweet boy has become pretty reactive.

He needs a home where he can decompress. He loves to play with other dogs his age/ energy level, but needs at least a week to just be able to unwind before making new friends. No small children. A fenced yard is absolutely necessary.

He just needs a place to chill for 3 weeks. Located in Cleveland, TN, but fosters can be anywhere within a 1.5 hr range. If you're able to accommodate him, please please please reach out!

ADOPTER, FOSTER, OR RESCUE NEEDED ASAP

Corum is a super sweet nearly 1 year old Lab mix. He's 65 lbs of cuddle and silliness who loves people and loves to play with other dogs. He's a high energy boy who needs a fenced yard to run around in and an active family to play with him. He's very willing to please and loves learning new tricks.

He thinks all dogs should be his best friend. Not all dogs appreciate his playfulness, and he'd do best with a buddy who is around his age and energy level. He plays well with dogs large and small!

House and crate trained, fully vetted (neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, on preventatives)

If a suitable foster/adopter isn't found by August 9th, he'll have to go into boarding. While we love our boarding facility, we also know that's not a good fit for Corum. So if you know anyone looking for a big goofy buddy to add to the family (temporarily or permanently!) Please reach out to us ASAP!

Located in Cleveland, TN, but we travel for the perfect home and fosters can be within a 2 hour range.

Hard to believe this big, beautiful Dork-a-saraus hasn’t found his forever home in the nearly 4 months he’s been with us!

Corum is now 11 months old, 65 lbs, and beyond ready for a family of his own. He’s mostly lab with a sprinkle of hound. He loves everyone he meets, people and dogs! He would LOVE to have a doggie sibling to play with. He’s been around cats briefly, and with training we believe he could live peacefully with one. He’s an active boy who requires a fenced yard and ideally his new person would enjoy walks, playing fetch, or trick training. He’s pretty trainable for being the big goofball that he is, and thoroughly enjoys trick training. Especially when treats are involved!

House trained, Crate trained, Fully vetted (neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, HW negative, on monthly preventions)

Pugsly, 8 month old pitty mix. Neutered, and is UTD on vaccines.. he is also micro chipped. Due to no fault of his own, he needs to find a new home. He is too much dog for his elderly owner. Pugsly would truly benefit being in an active home or a home with another dog to get out some of his puppy energy. He has had some obedience training however he is too strong for his owner to try to follow thru with. Pugsly currently resides in Cleveland TN. We’ll help transport to the perfect home!

Please reach out if you know of the perfect home for Pugsly

Finding Fido

Fido was a Distemper survivor who thrived despite the odds. Through seizures, mobility issues, and brain damage he lived 6 years in a shelter before being adopted. He thrived in his home, and was taken by pancreatic cancer a year later. We rescue animals in his honor and hope that by sharing his story others will realize the value in adopting special needs dogs and the power of fostering.
