We continue to search for amazingly wonderful, secure, loving homes for the many sweet dogs, cats, piggies at Real Rescue since the untimely passing of co-founder Chris Venters. The rescue had become, over the past few years, a sanctuary more than an active rescue and, as such, had very few adoptions. Our mission since 2001 was to rescue the older, or injured, or abandoned mix breed, pitt mix, etc off the street, get them medical care, nutrition, shelter, and love then adopt out for a minimal fee, often $65 or less. Our goal was never to make money but to be a real rescue. As a result many of the guys and gals are older, very sweet, and would love a comfortable home to live out their lives. We do have many active, adult dogs too.

Due to the untimely death of Chris Venters with whom I began Real Rescue, Inc., in 2002, I will be eventually ending the Rescue as soon as all the animals are adopted. Because of this we are unfortunately no longer able to take in any new pets. We have many lovely adult and senior dogs and cats that will be in need of a loving home. We also have several pot bellied pigs for adoption into the appropriate circumstances. We so appreciate all your support throughout the past 16 years and thank you your ongoing support as we work to successfully place these remaining animals. Real Rescue began as a non-kill rescue, has continued as such through all these years, and will end as a non-kill rescue. In our entire history only one animals was euthanized due to his uncontrollable aggression, and that decision was made by a professional trainer after a period of evaluation at his facility (K-9 University, OKC, OK). Chris valued every life as I continue to do. Chris and I spent 20 plus years together caring for sweet abandoned fellow beings and I'm sure he's continuing to care for those in Heaven with him. Again, thank you for your support as we bring this heartfelt work to s close.

This is Charlie. One of our original rescues. Came to me with a terrible leg wound for which he was going to be euthanized. A kind vet saved him and brought him to Real Rescue. He lived at the farm sanctuary for many years but was not adopted. Due to his age and arthritic condition I brought him into my home in OKC. So here he is sleeping in a small dog bed on this frigid night. Warms my heart to see him so comfortable and happy!

Thank you Heather and Victoria for liking my page. My 93 yr old father lives with me (along with many of our older rescuee's) so I don't have a lot of time to post on here. But I do appreciate your support. Real Rescue is a true "real" rescue and sanctuary in that I do place animals in loving, responsible homes or they stay in my care. I told Chris ( the co-owner with whom I created the rescue), I want it to be a real rescue, not just a bandaid on an animals life ( hense the name, Real Rescue). Many of the dogs and cats that for whatever reason were not adopted I now care for in their last years, along with my precious father, so I refer to my home as the "elder care". Excerpt from post on the front page of our website straynomore.com about Real Rescue Inc. Animal Rescue and Sanctuary in Arcadia, near Oklahoma City, Okla.

"Placement only facilities do sometimes give up on animals which cannot be placed due to health or behavior issues or who will not stay placed. These animals are usually sent back to kill shelters and are killed upon relinquishment. At least these animals had a chance, and that is more than so many animals get in America. But we feel even animals who cannot be easily placed deserve more than just one chance. America is a smart country and rich enough to avoid pet overpopulation but has never chosen to do so. It is a matter of choice as it is politically easier for governments to spend the money and time to run kill shelters as compared to spending money on spay and neuter and law enforcement which would save so much suffering in the long run. We have a long way to go as a country but, in the short run, I would recommend to those who have placement only facilities that you try to line yourself up with an animal sanctuary instead of a local kill shelter for animals you cannot place. It just is one more step toward moving the country and humanity forward. ~Chris"
