Sometimes you have to be able to make what you need. I couldn’t find a plate that I liked for this yearling with a hind coffin bone fracture so I made one out of 1/4x3/4” aluminum, tapped it, glued it on, and attached the plate as the vet requested. DIM packing.

Putting the EDT + winter defense to the test today with some unknown quality fuel from Stewart’s and -5 degree temperatures. Over 150 miles. No problems. Avg mpg even went from 11.8 to 11.9. Thanks to for the great product recommendation.

When I’m not shoeing horses, I ride horses. Hero and me at on Saturday. Thanks to for the photo. If you were there and appreciated having the jumpers in jumper 2 please let management know, they went above and beyond to move us into that ring.

I’m a little late to the party with these 3d pads but they really are useful for horses that need a little help in the back part of their foot. This horse is set up with some impression material, a pad, and a kerckhaert sx-8. It’s all held in place with Capewell Endura sb5 nails. The purple is . I’ve just started using this product. I like it for an ounce of prevention when I’m going to cover the bottom of the foot and want to try to prevent any fungal/thrush issues.

These are literally the only nails I use these days. The Endura coating from is a game changer. The nails drive easier, wring better, and hold stronger than the competition.

We got to work on a lot of really great horses this summer at . We’re always happy to see them all do well but it makes you feel especially good when a horse comes in not feeling his best and you can help him. This horse was wearing a flip flop that was rather hard and didn’t provide much protection. We switched him to a Flex-step flip flop from and that’s all she wrote.

We always tend to post pictures of freshly shod feet that are all shiny and clean and as flawless as possible. How about one that’s mid-cycle and has been reset once or twice. I think this was 15” of 3/8x1 on a pretty nice hind foot. Notice how the toe of the shoe is shaped like a hind toe.

I post a lot about glue on shoes because they’re fun and different but it’s hard to beat a steel shoe on a nice foot. Notice how the hind toes are shaped like hind toes. You’re allowed to do that. You don’t have to leave them how they came out of the box. The horse will thank you.

Before and after. to the rescue. After a long winter show season this horses feet were in rough shape. Rather than continue to try to nail a shoe into weak, poor quality hoof I chose to glue on a Polyflex shoe so that the hoof could have the opportunity to grow out. The goal here is to grow some better quality hoof and then return to nail on shoes.

Thanks to for making my look new again. This time of year I pretty much live in my truck. TJ and his crew definitely had their work cut out for them.
