Annabelle and Finnegan ❤️ enjoying the sun spot in their enclosure. Since arriving at Sanctuary, Finnegan struggled to make friends for years. By allowing space, time, and lots of friendly options, Finnegan now has many connections that he can cuddle, play and learn from. Making friends can be hard, but healthy relationships provide us all with decreasing stress, faster healing, healthier behaviors and choices, a greater sense of purpose, and even a longer life! ...#sanctuary #animals #goat #goats #annabelle #finnegan #sanctuarylife #kitsap #pnw #friends

Bertie grooming Hokuleia of hay and debris. We love watching these interactions that showcase the animal’s relationships. Here at One Heart Wild, we protect these bonds by guaranteeing a forever home to every animal resident. This allows for a stable social environment where everyone can relax into lifelong relationships....#sheep #lambert #hokuleia #sanctuary #sanctuarylife #animals #bond #relationship #social #kitsap #pnw
The rain has let up and the residents are taking advantage! Horses, chickens, goats, sheep and cows are making the most of this short dry period today....#play #animals #sanctuarylife #sanctuary #kitsap #pnw #horse #chicken
We’ve been working hard to reinforce the ground under our chicken coops the last few weeks. We have poured concrete to create a raised pad for the smaller coops to sit on. This prevents critters from entering the coops from underground, as well as, reducing mud or wet flooring in the runs for our flock to stand on. Penguin just moved into his new and improved home close to the other birds and next to the Bunny Barns. He is such a sweet guy and he will enjoy more human interaction here. We think he approves!...#chicken #rooster #bird #birds #coop #chickencoop #new #improved #animals #sanctuary #sanctuarylife #kitsap #pnw
We captured Pumbaa making his bed for a little post-breakfast snooze! Sped up so you can see the process in its entirety. You can see him transfer mouthfuls of hay from one end to the other so that his sleeping spot is fluffy and warm to burrow into ❤️...#sanctuary #sanctuarylife #animals #pig #kitsap #pnw #pumbaa
Picchu and Mika enjoying their dust bath! Picchu is always the first to bathe, while Mika rolls in the remnants, then eventually gets her turn. Chinchillas bathe in special dust to clean their coats, remove excess oils and moisture, remove dirt and loose fur, and it’s a fantastic enrichment time to benefit their mental and physical health. It’s also so fun to watch!...#chinchilla #animals #sanctuarylife #sanctuary #enrichment #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #kitsap #pnw

Rasa was an angel on earth. She made so many lives better because of her mastery of love and kindness.Goodbyes are the hardest part of our work. Rasa has been here at One Heart Wild since the beginning and on the property since 2009. I have known her for 15 years. She came with severe emotional wounds from heavy handed training and a degenerative ligament disease. Her name was Sassy Playgirl. She was broken down in every way. She was physically sick, emotionally devastated, and she was in pain from her DSLD. She had the biggest startle reaction I had ever seen in a horse and it happened constantly in the beginning. We named her Rasa (Tabula Rasa means clean slate and Rasa needed that to be her future). It is a blessing to care for the animals who call One Heart Wild home, and being on the front lines of that round the clock effort and these deep losses can be overwhelming. We have many medically fragile and senior animals here so compassion fatigue is always a concern. We try to take care of each other as much as we take care of the animals we love and partner with. These losses also impact so many clients and volunteers who have grown close to amazing beings like Rasa.Loss and grief are painful and often they are the result of having deeply loved another. We all know this one well. It is an honor to work with the crew we have here at OHW. I am so proud of this team and our incredible animal care volunteers.Rest in peace Rasa ❤️...#rip #goodbye #thankyou #sanctuary #sanctuarylife #animals #horse #pnw #kitsap #grief
A battle of wills is happening at Sanctuary 🤣 Bertie and Annabelle, possibly our most head strong (see what we did there?!) individuals are used to pushing their way into the best snack spots. Who will win this war? The big and mighty? The small and crafty? Time will tell! Stay tuned…...#mediums #goat #sheep #thisiswar #battleofwills #animals #headstrong #sanctuarylife #sanctuary #pnw #kitsap
Izzy said, “Move over Cora, I’ve got a date with my man Montana!” 😍 These two. What can we say? They have a love affair for the ages. Running, bucking, farting, rolling and racing.
