We rescue dogs & puppies from high kill shelters in the South and bring them to mid-coast Maine to find loving permanent homes. Passion for Pets Rescue (PPR) is a non-profit, fully insured and state licensed rescue, run by volunteers. We are a small group of like minded folks with big hearts. PPR does not have an actual shelter; all of our dogs are either in foster homes throughout mid-coast and s

outhern Maine or with our partners in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas. The majority of the dogs we rescue require immediate veterinary care. Skin infections and internal parasites are common occurrences. We pay for all spay & neuter surgeries. PPR makes sure all dogs are given age appropriate vaccinations, as well as preventative medication for Heartworm and external parasites.

Adopted!
Meet Mistie! Mistie, just under 2 years is amazing with all dogs, cats and kids. She was in foster in the south with all of the above. She’s been to wild events, nailing every one of them. Weighs 31 lbs, small little girl. She looks like a chubby beagle mix in person and oh so sweet. She is a very gentle girl and we will update more as she settles into her foster home.

Meet Shirley! Update from her foster: Shirley now knows her name and comes when called. Her nickname is Shirl Ma Girl. She lets us rub her belly now, but really really wants her chin scratched. She pushes into your hand to get more pressure.

She is a bit mouthy, but we are working on it. She now knows sit, stay (harder with other dogs around, but she consistently does it), and leave it. She is great on the leash now, but is absolutely terrified of cars. We don’t know why, but just walking by them scares her. We use high value treats (dehydrated liver is the current favorite) but we have to carry her and put her in the car. We are working with the trainer to better understand the problem and correct it.). She has learned No! And looks at you like ooops- sorry! when corrected.

She play bows to her own reflection to try and play with the dog in the mirror. It is THE cutest thing ever. She throws her toys in the air, but has zero ability to catch them, which is hilarious. When she gets too intense with her toys, we say - be nice- and she stops.

My dog is about half her size, but has been a great momma dog for her . My dog corrects Shirley and she has learned a lot about being an inside family member from the other dogs.

We are about 95% there on potty training. She has a specific circling around thing she does when she has to go potty. She is asking to go out more and more. Consistency and keeping a close eye on her seems to work well.

Meet Moe! Meet Moe, 6 years old, looks like a Chow mix, he came to the shelter back in December with his brother. His brother looked just like him, only a little bigger and no white. Moe weighs 40-45 lbs. He’s a quiet dog, and very sweet. He was tested with a Pyrenees, when she made him nervous, he just walked in the other direction. He prefers a quieter dog and not a dog that is in his face. Moe is a cute and friendly boy. He is much cuter and smaller than his pictures look. He does need to work on housebreaking. We will update his profile as he settles into his foster home. Do you have Moe love to give? Adopt Moe!

Meet Bobbie! UPDATE: Ms. Bobbie went on a boat this past weekend and did very well. She loved it! She does well in the water, too. She plays fetch and is very active. She has mastered stairs now, both up and down!

Bobbie is doing very well in her new foster home. She loves all the toys and stuffies her foster siblings have. She sleeps through the night without a problem. No accidents in the house! She is definitely NOT cat friendly. She has a good appetite for such a little peanut. She LOVES to be praised after she goes potty. She is the sweetest girl and is wonderful with other dogs. She walks well on a leash but needs some redirection throughout the walk. She has the puppy nippiness and likes to chew so she has a chew toy to satisfy that need. She is an absolute treat! Is Bobbie the one for you?

Meet Winston! He is an 8 month old happy, playful guy who takes on life with a tail wag. He was surrendered due to the cat not accepting him. Winston is housebroken and crate trained. He is good with dogs, cats and kids. He is going to be a big solid guy. Being a puppy, he still needs work with manners and leash walking. Winston will be neutered soon and ready for a home of his own.

Violet is a very sweet 3 yr old Mini Golden Doodle. She has lived her life as a breeding dog and is shy. She is slowly learning to trust and has been slowly picking up toys to play. Violet is good with dogs and cats. Loves attention. She is working on housebreaking. Violet will require some patience and a physical fenced in yard. She has been spayed and is ready for her furever home.

Meet Lucy! Lucy is a 4 yr old Border Collie. She is so sweet, smart, and loving. She loves to be by your side. Her past owner became ill and wasn't able to care for her anymore. Her human was a horse trainer, so we are lead to believe she has been around farm life. But she also seems very happy around her foster’s home life. She is doing well with the dogs in her foster home. She is good with dog savvy cats and seems to be more scared of them. Lucy will need a slow introduction with new dogs.
She would do great with someone who understands the breed. Border Collies are a very active breed that likes to have a job. She would do best with an active owner. Lucy loves to play fetch and do dog puzzles with treats. She does well on a leash and is house-trained

Meet Lil' Bit! Bits--for short--is a 1 one year old Border Collie mix who is settling into her foster home. She does well with other dogs and is learning how to respect the space of the resident cats. She loves snacks and is very food motivated- she has a special fondness for cucumbers and bananas. Bits is an absolute sweetheart but does get overwhelmed with smaller kids and would prefer a home with kids over 10 who will respect her space. She loves to cuddle and follow her human from room to room. She enjoys a good game of tug of war with her foster siblings or just curling up with a nice chew toy. Bits is crate trained, sleeps through the night and takes her meals in her crate as well. Bits does excellent on a leash and is well mannered when out for walks. She is patiently waiting for her furever home. Is your home the one?

Meet Mouse! From her foster: Mouse has come so far from a scared shaking in the corner girl to attached to my hip. Mouse would do great in a home with she has a lap of her own. Mouse wants to be close to her person once she warms up. She is good with dogs and cats. Sleeps quietly all night. Will use a p*e pad or would do great with a fenced yard. She would be great for an elderly companion or someone who is home often. Is Mouse the one for you?

Adopted!
Meet Huck! Meet Huck, he is a 13-week-old Border collie/dalmatian mix. He can be a little nervous when he first meets someone. However, it takes him no time at all to warm up to his environment and show his true self. He gets along with other dogs and cats with no problem at all. He is a very sweet, friendly, energetic boy. He also has a very loveable side that will surely capture your heart. He adores play time and interacting with others. When he isn't playing, he loves to sit, relax, and watch TV while cuddling. He enjoys a good tummy rub and returns the affection with kisses. When he's sleepy he curls up next to you for naptime and just before bedtime he'll cuddle up to you before falling asleep for the night. He is a fast learner and picks up on new commands quickly. He would be a fantastic new addition to your family.

Adopted!
Meet Roper! Roper is sweet and very attached to his humans. He loves to cuddle on the couch. He is great in the car and is learning how to walk on a leash. He is mostly crate-trained (although, if he had to choose, he would sleep with his humans on the big human bed). He is learning to play with toys and loves a big plushy to romp around with. He is a quiet dog with bursts of puppy energy. He enjoys playing with his doggie friend in his foster home. He is still learning that the potty is outside, but he is a quick study! Is Roper the one for you?

Meet Eloise! Eloise is a beautiful 5 yr old Cocker Spaniel. She was recently rescued from an Amish puppy mill. Understandably, she is still shy and nervous—but she is learning all about living in a home for the first time. She is sweet and will warm up slowly. She is good with dogs, cats and kids, but loud noises do startle her. She is working on housebreaking and learning what a comfortable bed is. This girl would do best with a fenced in yard and another dog to help her come out of her shell.

Meet Clementine! She is another pup who traveled halfway across the world to find her furever family. Clementine is a very sweet girl, but she comes with some specific needs. Clementine is from Afghanistan where she lost her eye due to people pelting her with rocks. This has made her shy and scared of new people in the beginning, but she will slowly warm up once trust is built. She takes a little longer with men than women. She also lost half an ear, but the cause is unknown. Due to being a street dog, she exhibits resource guarding tendencies and is selective with other dogs. She does not care for other female dogs and should not be in a house with small animals. Her resource guarding has only been towards other animals where she does not want to share her food, treats, toys, or sleeping areas with others. This is understandable due to fighting for resources in Afghanistan. She does not show any resource guarding towards humans. She wants to be loved by her humans and she is fine share that love with others.

Clementine is housetrained and will ask to go outside when she needs to go. She is also not destructive when left alone, expect her blanket she sleeps with. She is also learning about walking on a leash. She has gotten better at not being reactive when on a leash but will only walk where she wants to walk.
The perfect house for Clementine:
• Calm household
• No female dogs
• No small animals
• Dog savvy cats that don’t seem interested in dogs
• A secure area to explore
• People willing to give time and patience, to show her love and how to be a pet
Clementine is truly a sweet dog that would make a kind and patient person very happy. She really loves her people and really wants to be loved as well.

Many of our dogs travel long distances to find their perfect homes, but the dogs from Afghanistan are the farthest traveling dogs we have ever taken in. Baby M is no different. She came a long way, and has waited too long, for her furever family. Read more about how far she has come, and how ready she is:

Baby M is a one year-old shepherd mix who was rescued from Afghanistan. She has had a tough life, but it does not get her down. She loves humans and is great with dogs as long as she gets a slow introduction. She is still working on house training, but she is doing an amazing job so far! She does not love walking on a leash just yet, as it’s completely foreign to her. She does chase cats (and chickens) so she would be best for a no cat (and chicken) household. She is an incredibly smart dog with so much potential— just a few days she already knows some basic commands. She is crate trained. Baby M cannot wait to find a family of her own to give all her love to!

Adopted!
Look at this handsome face! Like his buddy Bradford, Birch didn’t let distance stop him from searching for his furever family—he traveled from Afghanistan to Maine, to make his dream come true. He is a shy boy that will need time and understanding from his people. He does get jealous of other animals in the home getting attention and will need to learn that his person has enough love to share. Do you have the love and patience to help him grow into the best pup he can be?

How far would you travel to for love? Bradford traveled all the way from Afghanistan, to find his furever family. He’s been waiting way too long for his wish to come true. Bradford is a is a 44-pound Shepherd mix. He does well with other dogs. He does not like to be in his kennel when other dogs are loose and makes that very well known! We do know that Bradford would not do well in a home with cats or small animals. Bradford is still opening up, after his long trip, and the right family will help him grow into the best pup he can be. Are you the one?
