Nebula’s Snow Shoveling Service is open for business ☃️🐶😂
It’s a pretty funny thing to drive past. Definitely makes people laugh… I do enjoy the reactions of people who are seeing this with no context 😅
Many trainers use a fake dog for assessment purposes as well as for a convenient helper dog.
Believe it or not, the majority of dogs are completely convinced it is a real dog! There was a study done last year which used a fake dog to assess for dog aggression in 292 dogs who were confiscated during a dogfighting raid. The fake dog elicited species typical social behavior, and accurately classified dogs as aggressive or not in most cases.
In my experience, although the fake dog gives off weird body language and doesn’t smell like a dog, most dogs interact with it in the same way that they would an unfamiliar dog. So if for example a person or a shelter got a dog that was very dog reactive on leash or behind a barrier but we were not sure if the reactivity was due to fear or frustration, using a fake dog can be a safer way to start an assessment. My fake dog has been quickly “killed” several times in the past few years 🙃
Some dogs realize it’s fake after a little sniffing, but some dogs never realize it’s fake… a couple times I’ve see dogs for weeks really want to get into a closet or cardboard box to hang out with their friend 💀🤣
I have a ton of stories about human reactions to the fake dog as well 😂
Do you think your dog would think it’s real? Has your dog ever met a fake dog? And for trainers - I wanna hear your favorite fake dog stories! 🐕
Learning about consent for care / cooperative care has transformed my relationship with my dogs and I love teaching it to others. If we hadn’t trained this, getting him his eye drops would be a huge fight daily and would NOT be sustainable. There’s many behaviors we can train for various procedures, like a chin rest, laying flat on their side, and standing between your legs. It can be used for nail trims, blood draws, vaccines, and more. This idea is really magic and is so perfectly in line with my values and how I want my relationships to be with the dogs and humans in my life. Please share to spread awareness about this awesome concept 💞

I think my quest for the perfect treat pouch has come to an end. @voilapets just released this amazing thing. This is not a paid advertisement I am just stoked to find something that is ideal for my needs. I’ve been using the Doggone Good Rapid Rewards pouch for years and although I love it, I just cannot keep them clean enough. I’ve bought several different treat pouches recently that although thoughtfully crafted, I had many issues with. As soon as I tried out this one, I immediately felt that it was perfect for me.

This sweet boy unfortunately has a bite history to strangers that have gotten close to him. It may seem like it would be a good idea to “correct” the dog for aggressive displays - of course we want the behavior to stop! But what educated behavior consultants and trainers know now is that using punishment - shock collars, choke collars, prong collars, slip leads, Pet Corrector, shaker cans, spray bottles, hitting, or verbal scolding - will worsen the underlying emotional state of the dog and may ultimately make the dog just bite “out of nowhere”. It takes away the dogs ability to say “I’m scared, get away from me!” So all they have left to do is bite. Instead of using punishment to suppress behavior, we can work to change the emotions that are driving the behavior. We can accomplish this through a process called counter conditioning! We pair the trigger (person, dog, etc) at a distance they can handle with high value treats!
Muzzles are great management tools! While we try to avoid situations that would cause them to feel that they need to bite, we can train them to feel comfortable wearing a muzzle for the times that they may bite.
Note that the Baskerville muzzle we are using in this video is not bite proof! We are just using it for training while we wait for a bite proof muzzle to arrive in the mail.

If you worry about what might happen if your dog’s equipment breaks or slips off, use this set up to keep everyone safe!
-Martingale style collar: designed to be loose enough to wear comfortably but tightens a limited amount with leash pressure. A properly fitted martingale is escape proof. I recommend getting one with no buckle to reduce potential break points.
-Harness with front and back attachments
-Collar and front attachment of harness connected by a locking carabiner
-Leash connected to harness by an auto locking carabiner or kong-frog clip. You can purchase an auto locking carabiner and add it to your current leash, or buy a new leash with a swiveling locking carabiner
-Use a break proof waist leash if there is concern for an accidental leash drop
