Chevy was brought to us after being hit by a car and left on the side of the road. After his surgery he bounced back faster than any of us expected. He is looking for his forever home. If you are interested in meeting Chevy, please fill out an application on our website or call us at (207) 743-8679 to learn more. Thank you to our volunteer Kristi for this heartfelt video.

We received a very generous gift last week from a previous adopter. Tara works for Yarmouth Spinal Care and ran a food drive for pets and people recently. She delivered a whole car full of items last week that we are so thankful for❤️

Tara adopted a very special cat from us who had been here at RPC for 5 months waiting. She took home Nathan, who is not only diabetic but also FIV positive. With his good looks and charming character she just couldn’t let his medical needs turn her away. He lives the life of luxury with his three doggie friends and his people. He celebrated his “birthday” and also got his Christmas stocking ready!

Our Story

Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills provides a safe and comfortable environment for dogs and cats from Oxford County, Maine that have become lost or have been abandoned.

Responsible Pet Care is a no-kill, non-profit shelter. All of the cats and kittens in our care need permanent homes and are available for adoption. Many of the dogs will be reunited with their owners; but some will require new homes.

Our shelter is equipped to care for 150 or more cats and kittens at any one time, and is always full to capacity. The dog area holds twelve to twenty at one time.

We take in and adopt an average of 400 cats and kittens per year. Incoming dogs average 150 per year. Many dogs are reunited with their owners. All adopted animals leave the shelter healthy, spayed/neutered, FeLV/FIV tested-cats, heartworm tested-dogs, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, and treated for internal and external parasites. This is all done at the expense of RPC.
