The Bantam Farmer and his lovely bride have been married for twenty years and have five wonderful children ranging from college down to elementary school age. Our children have all been homeschooled and we have loved ever (eh hem most minutes) minute of it. We happily live in and are both originally from Nashville, Tn. And all the products are generally handmade to order. The modern world is based

on a specialized division of labor. Most people focus on one specific task to earn a living. Admittedly this has produced excess on the grandest scale ever seen in human history. No one has more than modern man. Excess food, excess entertainment, excess leisure time, all these are available to human beings in a way they have never been before now. But it has all come at the cost of the family. And in our opinion, it wasn’t worth the price we paid. There was a time when the division of labor was within the family unit. Father would purchase and shear the sheep. Brother would shepherd and feed the sheep. Mother would spin the wool into yarn. And sister would take that yarn and make fabric on the loom. In this way each member of the family contributed to the economy of the whole. Through life, labor, and love children were brought up and educated to be fruitful members of the broader society. Yet another way the family demonstrated itself to be the building block for all of civilization. The good news is that everything has now come full circle. The accessibility of the internet has essentially created a market place out of the entire world. In this environment we believe it is high time for the family economy to make a come back. Bantam Farm is our family’s attempt to re-establish the family economy and to become the building block we were always suppose to be.

It's HOT out there folks, SO Let me say this as an encouragement for you to endure it--Fall Flavors ARE Coming Soon! Hang in there. That first little weather shift is coming. All we gotta do is endure the loudly barking Dog Days of Summer through August and then *p**f* Pumpkin magically enters the menu all across the fruited plain, followed by a gentle tumble into some lower temps and piles of beautiful multicolored leaves. A major milestone was just reached. For the first time since we began this new garden spot it is now 100% planted. Plus, I’m adding some new stuff in the coming weeks too, like scallions, beets, and radishes. In the end this place will give new meaning to intensive planting.
