Canyon is a big soft boy. His coat has elegant marbling, and it runs a little longer which makes him a soft cuddly guy. He already knows to “sit” on command and would eagerly learn some new tricks. He is excited to be out of the kennel and just wants to play. That cool crisp air of December in Maryland really got him ready to engage and he would love to chase a ball around.

Canyon seems like he had fun in his first experience in play group. He loves to interact with other dogs especailly highly energetic dogs.

This marbled cutie is a gentle giant, incredibly sweet, makes eye contact, is playful, learned commands quickly. I don't recall him pulling on the leash, in fact he was such a peacful soul, simply motivated by butt rubs. He lay his head in my lap and looked into my eyes so charmingly as we sat on the bench taking in the sun. He's a beautiful love bug, I think he'd make a great family dog, he's a cuddle bug.

Kylie is a gorgeous chocolate girl with a white chest. She patiently waited her turn to get a walkie. She seemed a bit timid in her kennel and was quiet. She wasn't bothered by the barking dogs we walked by. She gently takes treats. She is very mindful. Kylie went potty right away outside and might be housebroken. I can't wait to learn more about Kylie. She is a very lovely and calm girl! If you're looking for your new best friend, come meet this lovely lady!

Not one, but two rescues are willing to help this mama and her 4 puppies. The catch? They need a foster home in the DMV. A stressful shelter is no place for a family with puppies this young! And the 1 yo mama is still a pup herself 😭

Fostering these babies is FREE - rescue will cover all vetting, shots, food, supplies, etc and provide ongoing support.

For our first post of the new year, we simply must feature a very special adoptable dog waiting patiently for his furever home: DRACO! 2025 is going to be DRACO’s year, we just know it!

Many of you already know, love, and adore Draco (aka Drake). He's famous, courtesy of his foster mom sharing him each day and is known for his incredible modeling skills. But we just might need to reach a very special someone who hasn’t seen him yet.

Is that Prancer you see? No, it’s just our sweet KAEJAH who’s ready to prance her way into your heart! Kaejah was easy to leash up and walk, going potty right away once outside. Her spirit remains bright, even when she was under the weather a few weeks ago. This love bug enjoyed smelling all the smells and receiving pets. We’d love for her to have a home for the holidays!

Wow! Meatball is a great dog!

He was easy to leash and easy to walk.

Meatball followed my lead and we toured the grassy fields and the driveway.

He is a mellow fellow, with a handsome bronze-colored fur and a big grin. I mean, look at that photo!

Congrats to LEVI, who was adopted last week from the PG County shelter! 🎉 His family says he’s an awesome dog and “He loves walks to the bay, people watching and other dogs walking by, car rides and long naps! He really is the sweetest boy!” 🩷

This handsome hunk will make everyone, even vegans 😉, fall in love with him ! Volunteers rave about his great personality, and he’s very human and dog friendly. He met Deuce and Marco (both males) and was friendly and tolerant. He even takes corrections well from other dogs! He’s not taking the stress of the shelter environment well, but loves nothing more than to romp around outside. He’s not particularly speedy, but loves to lope around and feel the sun on his back. He takes toys and food gently. We’d love to see him find a foster or adopter for the new year before shelter life takes a toll - volunteers suggested a breed update to reflect American Bulldog, we’ll report back! Update: this American Bulldog is adoptable in PG County (and beyond!)

Catching up on good news. Meet Fern (formerly Fifi)! She was one of the 35 dogs on the urgent list from PG County and got her freedom ride last week thanks to her foster home and Vindicated Pit Bull Rescue!!!

He's been at the shelter way too long, patiently waiting. He was happy to see so many friends take a freedom ride, and now he's ready for his own. To help you pick him, he has a new reel! MURPHY

This is the second time I have walked sweet Murphy and he has lost weight and has a bit more anxiety. He has a long length of stay at the shelter, so I fear he will be on the next urgent list! He’s a very handsome boy though. He is dog-friendly but shown some guarding when it comes to food.

Murphy is a little guy but he can be strong on the lead. He desperately headed to the door to go potty, so I’m pretty sure he’s house trained. He had a lot of energy, which isn’t uncommon for these pups who are penned up all day. I went on a little jog with him and he was able to settle into a regular walking rhythm. Regular walks would do him well to help with his leash manners, but that’s a challenging thing to do in a shelter. He knows “sit” and did it easily for this photo. He is treat motivated, which makes for easy training. And I haven’t even talked about these beautiful eyes of his!

If you love an energetic dog that will be sure to entertain you, Murphy is your man! He would make a great addition to a family that loves to move and shake!

🚗 Transport help also needed. As noted in comments section, some DC residents don’t have cars so if you can help drM Evi Hufferping M Evi Huffer who can connect you.

This isn’t PG County related, but our neighbors in DC, the Humane Rescue Alliance, have their own crisis. They need temp fosters for 100 dogs by January 1st!

‼️FOSTER NEEDED (x2!!!)‼️

Perfectly Paired Pitties - P3 wants to help ensure four pitties/bullies are pulled out of the breeding industry! They became aware today of a mom (6 yo) and two 3-week old puppies, as well as a male adult American Bully (2 yo) are being rehomed due to the owner’s move. They are concerned they’ll end up in the wrong hands and will continue to be bred!

They need TWO full time fosters to bring the family into care - one for mom + pups (for at least 5 weeks till old enough to separate from mom) and one for the male bully. Both adults are said to me 100+ lbs. and good with cats, kids, and other dogs!

For those who have been interested in fostering a dog that has lived with cats, dogs and kids, this is your chance!

Imagine thinking you’re safe and going home with an adopter, but they never came back. That’s little Dino right now - he received an application but it fell through and he has nowhere to go. He was on the euth list for 12/24 and they only get listed once…he’s on borrowed time, please help!

DINO is young, social and playful! He did great meeting not one, not two, but three other dogs. In addition to his solid temperament and phenomenal ears, he also does A+ sploots! He’s as worthy as the 34 other dogs that were just saved. We can’t leave him behind!

‘I’m the baby! Gotta love me!’ Dino is just a smol boy who thinks he’s a big guy. He’s so cute! He was excitable in his kennel and ready to get the heck out of there. He pottied right away and several times, indicating he might be housebroken. He loved to play with toys in the big pen, carrying them around in his mouth.

Dino met several dogs at the shelter including Ham, Boss and Rusty and was appropriate and playful in his interactions!

Dino liked to jump up like a little bunny so he could use some basic training, like all dogs. He was a big fan of running after the frisbee and playing tug rope with me. Dino knows ‘sit’ and would love to learn more especially because he is treat-motivated. If you’re looking for a medium to high-energy dog, look no further! Come meet baby Dino!
