This page has been designed so that a few (not all) of the animals at Prince George's County Animal Management that are in need of a rescue can be featured to rescue groups and their fosters. This page is not designed for adoptions, if you see a dog on this page you are interested in adopting we request that you call the shelter at 310-780-7200 and ask to speak with an adoption councilor.
Adoption inquiries on this page WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. Please keep in mind that Prince George’s County has Breed Specific Legislation (BSL), Pit Bull dogs are illegal in PG County, and the shelter cannot adopt them out (regardless of if you live IN or OUT of the county). The ONLY option for our Pit Bull Dogs are to secure an out of county rescue. This is COUNTY LEGISLATION that the employees of the county are required to enforce. To discuss your feelings on BSL please contact the county council member for your district. If you see a Pit Bull on this page you would be interested in adopting or fostering, and you do not live in Prince George's County, you can post interest in the dog and ask for a rescue to contact you (it’s up to them if they do or don’t). What transpires from that point forward is strictly between YOU and the RESCUE, if you live out of county, we have MANY wonderful pit bull rescues who will pull pit bulls for non PG residents and adopt them out once the potential adopter has met that rescue groups adoption criteria. Kittens under 2 months of age can NOT be adopted out, they MUST go to a rescue. If you are interested in working with or fostering an underage kitten, as stated above:
You can post interest in the kitten and ask for a rescue to contact you. Sometimes you will see Sick or Injured pets posted on this page. Often Sick and Injured pets are RESCUE ONLY. If you are interested in working with a sick or injured animal you see on this page once again:
You can post interest in the animal and ask for a rescue to contact you (see above). This page was set up so information can be shared with the rescue groups, their fosters, volunteers and adopters. If you are not an authorized person to PULL an animal for your rescue but see an animal here you are interested in, please contact your rescue’s intake coordinator regarding that animal and ask THEM to contact us regarding any animal you are interested in. We work feverishly, daily, to do what we can to get ALL animals at our shelter here to rescue or adopted, streamlining communication so that it can be done quickly and effectively through the proper channels helps us keep focused and able to work on more than just a small handful of animals. Five volunteers calling about one Great Dane can eat up a lot of valuable time, time that unfortunately many of our animals do not always have. The world of rescue is emotional and passionate. We ask that ALL members of this community remain respectful of one another. We would also like to remind you that ANY POST CAN BE DELETED BY THE ADMIN OF THIS PAGE. ANY post deemed abusive, derogative or otherwise unconstructive will be removed. If a member of the community is found to be repeatedly abrasive and combative they will be blocked from being able to access this page as well. Euthanasia is an unfortunate reality that comes along with an open intake high capacity shelter. It is not the desired outcome any employee of this shelter wishes to see for any animal, nor do any of our rescue partner like it either. Please remember remain Polite, Professional and Respectful. Overly emotionally driven post will be removed as well. Whereas we understand the passion and drive behind them, they are often more hurtful than helpful. Please do not automatically assume that because an animal is no longer available it has been euthanized. No Longer Available could mean several possibilities (to name just ONE: the animal could have been returned to owner). It’s ALL ABOUT THE ANIMALS PEOPLE! Let’s work TOGETHER to save lives!
