Nice Home Companion Orientation last night. It’s always fun to start a new group of handlers and dogs and welcome them to the building. Extra thanks for the folks that did the Demos on dog sports we offer classes for. I think they did a fantastic job. I was going to video them but forgot so enjoy this video of a members Scottie’s doing a Rally Pairs class at a Show.
Many thanks to all who came and all who helped with our Rally Fun Runs today. We have a Rally Class on the schedule for the Spring Session again. The I Phone has an app called Pocket Rally if you want to get a jump start! I think there’s one for the Android as well. You can also find the signs and Videos on the AKC website. Our Rally Trial is March 16 and 17 if you want to watch. No unentered entered dogs allowed though.
While I didn’t get any pictures of the Advance Obedience class this session it was a fantastic class. We worked mostly on Open exercises, attention, engagement, proofing and talked about Utility and starting some of those exercises. The class was large and we had 2 rings. We had 1/2 Green handlers and 1/2 more experienced handlers. Each person brought something to the table. The first few weeks the experienced instructors took a week of leading. This gave a broad base of different ways to teach the exercises and different things you can do to problem solve. We had one week of run throughs. A couple of weeks we paired a green handler with an experienced handler and did a rotation of exercises. The green handler got to learn how to call exercises like a judge by running the experienced handler. They also got 1 on one instruction. It was a total win for everybody. It’s hard for one instructor to lead a class with varying degrees of experience and dogs at different levels. We also shared a lot of general things if your preparing to show . Thank you Diane Walton for the Fantastic idea on structuring this class and all the instructors who helped . We are indeed a big team!

Last week Mary Davis, Roxana Wendling, and Deb DiPietro did obedience, agility, and nose work demonstrations for Evergreen Place Assisted Living in Champaign. Despite the brutal heat, the residents clapped and cheered for the dogs, then got to meet them. Thanks to Mary and Roxana for being such willing ambassadors and showing how amazing our dogs are!
