Willoughby Croft Dairy Goats

Willoughby Croft Dairy Goats We are a performance herd in SW WA committed to raising high quality, Mini Nubian, Nubian, & Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats for show & milk. Life is good.

Our main focus is on Udders/milk. We participate in 305-day milk testing, linear appraisals, and local shows. This adventure began back in 1997 when I was living in Spanaway, WA, on 1.5 acres. At that time I had a dozen hens, 6 sheep and an angora goat. I spent my days raising children, caring for my critters, and spinning wool into yarn. My husband decided to turn our garage into a fiber studio t

o give me a place to store my many wheels and newly acquired floor looms. It is at this time that my life made a bit of a detour. Somehow that fiber studio became a yarn shop. Which was soon outgrown and the shop moved to 4631 Pacific Ave.in Tacoma, WA. I was the proprietress of Lamb's Ear Yarn for 12 years. And 12 years in retail is plenty long enough. In 2011, at the age of 52, I was able to retire and return to the farming lifestyle that I love. My life has come full circle. In 2014 I moved to Winlock, WA. I now live in a 1904 converted schoolhouse on over an acre. Willoughby Croft was born. I raise Registered Dairy Goats.

Ginger's 3rd freshening udder is a monster. 😘😲 And yes, I scrubbed her teats. Not sure how she managed to get them so stained up. I'll update her udder pic once I get her teats looking better. 🤭 But man, that udder!!! She was definitely a slow maturing girl...but she's there now! And she has a GORGEOUS buckling available. He has white spats on his front feet....just like his dam. His dad is MDNT WK Lucky Bet. Lucky has put long, beautiful ears and gorgeous briskets on ALL of his kids. I am retaining a Ginger/Lucky daughter and there is another daughter available. Are you looking to improve conformation and udders in your Nubian herd? Maybe grab one of these Ginger/Lucky kids. ;) I'll include a photo of Lucky's dam's udder, in case you need convincing.

Due to a leg injury, I am choosing to reduce my herd a bit to ease my workload while I recover. All of my goats are high quality "keepers", not culls. I currently have two very nice does "IN MILK" available. Both are being milked twice per day. Both have excellent milk stand manners. Very cooperative and easy to handle.

💞You can have milk "immediately".
💞Proof of recent disease testing.
💞Perfect for someone new to milking, as they have great stand manners.
💞Friendly and cooperative.
💞Both have a very QUIET voice.
💞Would be great in any Mini Nubian program.
💞Both udders are "socked on".

Whew! I need to catch my breath after yesterday. We had 3 does all in labor at the same time and they gave birth back-to-back. It was a ball-a-palooza. Every kid born was a buck. Until the very last one.

I knew Nellie was ready to pop. Her kids had dropped drastically so I chucked her in a kidding stall. Skeeter was a semi-permanent resident of the stall next to her. Skeeter, a Nigerian, was on day 152. I had kind of given up on her ever kidding. 🙄

Jewel was on day 151 but she's a Nubian and it really didn't look like she'd dropped, so I left her out with the other does in the main pen. She wasn't very large, and I figured she was only expecting a single, like last year. I watched the 2 girls in the kidding stall on the camera and went about my business. When I went out to give everyone their lunch, as I walked by the goat shed, I saw Jewel standing there cleaning a kid. "Darn sneaky girl". As I got closer, I saw another, drier kid standing back in a corner. Jewel really fooled me this year. Twins. Unfortunately, both bucks. That set the theme of the day.

I got skeeter out of her kidding stall, tossed Jewel and her boys in, and got them all situated. Meanwhile I put Skeeter in the Nigerian pen, and she was very vocal that I was making a huge mistake. She segregated herself and I realized she was FINALLY in labor. So I moved Jewels boys in with the rest of the kids, put Jewel back out with the does, and moved Skeeter back into her kidding pan.

Time to bottle and bucket the kids. As I was sitting bottling the newborns, Nellie stood at the kidding stall door, glaring at me intently. Then she lay down and started grunting. We all recognize that grunt. She was starting to push. I had to stop mid-bottle and go in and help her deliver 2 HUGE bucks. :sigh:. More ⚽⚾🏀.
I finished bottles, got those and the buckets cleaned up, just in time for Skeeter to start grunting. I chucked the loose kids into their stall so I wouldn't step on them in all the chaos, and went in to help Skeeter who was bellowing in pain at this point. Something was awry. A big ol' head was presenting but no feet/legs. I had to go in and fish around for a leg. It took a while to find it but once I did, and had it out with the head, Skeeter felt much better, and we were able to deliver a huge, gorgeous, blue-eyed buck. I didn't mind this one being a buck because I had put that order in with her. 😉 I then reminded her that I'd also ordered up a keeper doeling. I had to run to the house for something and when I got back, there was Skeeter, cleaning my doeling. 😍 "Good girl, Skeeter!"

So, the kid stall grew by NINE KIDS in 2 days. Needless to say, we have a LOT of bucks who will need homes. Discount if brothers go together.

Now that all of the Nubians have kidded, I have made my choice on which doe gets cut from the herd in order to retain a doeling. Jewel, my loviest Nubian doe, is available "in milk".

Shoot me a PM if you are interest in unregistered Nubian bucks/wethers or a lovely Nubian doe to add to your herd or homestead.

With all the chaos of this kidding season, I needed to find a way to make things a bit easier on myself. In the past I've used one of those charts to help me figure out how much to feed bottle babies. And it's worked fine. But this year keeping track of 3 different sizes of kids, born at all different times was getting to be overwhelming. I had read posts from those in the camp of "using the charts starves kids". Now I don't believe that's true, since my kids have always grown well. Still I was curious. What if I fed all the kids, 3 times a day, and let them drink as much as they want?

That's what I've been doing the past couple of days and the kids seem to be doing great. All are very energetic. I go out 3 times a day and go through all 8 kids, one by one, and let them drink their fill. Right now 8 kids (2 Nubian, 2 Mini Nubian, and 4 Nigerians) share 3 bottles of milk, 3 times per day.

Somehow I had 2 possible kidding dates down for Skeeter. As huge as she is, I felt confident the first date was correct. She would've been due the same date as Charlie. But Charlie kidded a week ago and Skeeter is still big as ever. 🤣 She's got to be due on the second date. Here is the updated kidding schedule for our 8 remaining pregnant moms.
