It's a sign.
The guy on the left, you’ve all met before. I introduced him as our MVP a few posts back.
He’s definitely still that. He’s also a purveyor of signs and because of him and an incredibly talented sign making friend of his, Boomerang has added some beautiful signage to our property this season.
Since sometime in October, new signs have been arriving and getting installed here and there. Some offer directions, one suggests tipping you wrangler, this one though. This one is different.
Marks Station.
If you speak Australian, you know that station refers to a large plot of land that carrys on beyond where the eye can see. It’s huge and vast and usually holds livestock and a few unfinished dreams.
If you’ve ever met Mark, you know that cowboys don’t get much grittier than he. As tough and rumble as he was, he was also a big ol soft baby who didn’t like to be cold, so southern AZ became his seasonal landing pad.
We’re all here because Mark was here. Because he had a vision and a goal and was hell bent on making it all work. Because he could turn any ol complicated gelding into a suitable string horse, because he just didn’t see no as an option and because, if you never never go, you never never know.
When you come see us at Boomerang riding adventures, you can’t miss his sign. Marks Station. It is where it is to pique your curiosity in the man riding on the long horn steer. To make you wonder while you wander and ask us some questions.
Let us tell you one of our favorite Mark stories like how, he not only broke horses like a total boss, but how he also saddle broke steer and……camels! Yeah camels. He did that!
Let us tell you about how he and his wife Jamie Gibbons took several untouched wild mustangs to various makeovers throughout the country to compete with them. How one of them is part of our herd and is one of the most broke, patient gentle horses we have. Ask us about the way he loved the Snowy River Range, how much he loved to blow things up, and how he used his Australian accent as an excuse to toe the line of inappropriate every chance he got.....
Yup.
Because of him, we're all here moving horses on the edge of his Far away downs. We'd love to share him with you. He's so worth it.
