ITโ€™S OFFICIAL! Governor Kemp signed HB 331 into law yesterday with an effective date of July 1, 2025 (official photo coming soon). The law prohibits the sale or barter of dogs, cats, and domestic rabbits in unregulated and outdoor locations such as parking lots, sidewalks, roadsides, parks, and seasonal flea markets. The billโ€™s intent is to help curtail reckless backyard breeding by reducing opportunities for illicit pet sales to occur. A similar measure has been passed as a local ordinance in 11 jurisdictions to date which fully prohibit pet sales at any flea market. Stay tuned for more information and forthcoming FAQ to share with the public and law enforcement.

A very special thank you to the following lawmakers for their sponsorship of HB 331: State Representatives Beth Camp, Joseph Gullett, Leesa Hagan, Mike Cameron, Kimberly New, and Sharon Cooper and State Senator Lee Anderson. If you are a constituent of one of these lawmakers, please take 5 minutes to thank them via phone call and email. To find your legislator: https://pluralpolicy.com/open/ (scroll down to green box)

Appreciation is also extended to Professor Lisa Milot of the UGA School of Law for drafting the bill and local ordinances and testifying at hearings, and to Debra Berger (former State Director for Humane World for Animals) for her earlier work to pioneer the policy in Georgia.

โ€œHUMANE SLAUGHTERโ€ = THE BIGGEST MYTHS ON THE PLANET!
๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ–๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„

Below are testimonies from slaughterhouse inspectors of certified 'humane' slaughterhouses:

"He's been skinned all the way to his head. His legs have been cut off... and he's still conscious. Imagine being hit on the head, dazed but fully conscious. One of your legs is chained. You're hoisted upside down ... Workers open the hide on the legs, the stomach, the neck. They cut off the feet while the cow is breathing. It makes noise. It's looking around. Their eyes look like they are popping out. I feel bad that I have to do my job on them..." - From sworn testimony of slaughterhouse workers in the US

A veteran USDA slaughterhouse inspector from Texas describes what he has seen: "Cattle dragged and choked... knocking 'em four, five, ten times. Every now and then when they're stunned they come back to life, and they're up there agonizing. They're supposed to be re-stunned but sometimes they aren't and they'll go through the skinning process alive. I've worked in four large [slaughterhouses] and a bunch of small ones. They're all the same. If people were to see this, they'd probably feel really bad about it. But in a packing house everybody gets so used to it that it doesn't mean anything."

"The oath I took as an inspector said if I ever saw anything wrong I was supposed to report it. But today I can't report anything.Today, if you blow your whistle, you're in trouble with the inspection service. I feel the oath I took is violated every day I work." - William Freeman (Former slaughterhouse inspector)

The fast assembly-line slaughter process often miss the stunning on the animals. And so cutting, skinning and boiling animals alive happen too often, based on USDA slaughterhouse inspectors, as well as sworn testimony of slaughterhouse workers.

โ€œHumaneโ€ killing is not a thing because thereโ€™s no โ€œhumaneโ€ way to exploit and murder someone who wants to live and enjoy freedom.

The animal farming business is about violating the fundamental rights of other animals to not be used as property.
Thereโ€™s no such thing as โ€œethicalโ€ farming of individuals.

A dog forced into a life of dogfighting will often be abused and mistreated from the time they are a puppy. Many won't survive long. During their lives, they will likely suffer puncture wounds, blood loss, infection, broken bones and more. They may be neglected and never know what it's like to have a loving home.

This horrific cruelty needs to end! Sign the petition to end dogfighting here: https://hsus.ms/40b/aj5ght -Lauren@HSUS STOP2end
