When I ran the EPA, I worked to end animal tests and save bunnies, dogs and other animals. Biden overturned my decision and won't even let eligible animals retire from testing.

Down in Roatan and so many hungry street dogs. I bought a bag of dog food and I have been feeding them as I come across them. Two amazing friends sent me more money to buy more dog food so there will be lots of fed babies here 😍😍

Cold weather reminder.

Do NOT plug space heaters into power strips or extension cords.

Plug space heaters directly into the wall outlet.

Powers strips are not designed to handle the high current flow required by a space heater and can overheat causing a fire.

I have these sofa protectors for sale but I never sold them. Now I'm glad I didn't because I really didn't feel like washing ours again so I just put a new one on.. I did put the extra large on which is a little bit bigger than I needed but I like it like this.
I still have some of these left. These retail for $70 and I'm selling them for $20. Brand new. I have regular, extra large and recliner. Have burgundy and gray.

What happens when we lift a starfish out of water for an impromptu photo session?
All over the body of starfish are papules called dermal gills. Carbon dioxide gases are exchanged for oxygen between the coelomic liquid of the starfish and the water. Essentially, it’s how they breathe, like having hundreds of tiny noses all over your body.
As fresh air is toxic to starfish and they can’t hold their breath for very long, each time they’re lifted out of the water for a photo op, they are drowning and suffering from a build up of carbon dioxide. It’s the equivalent of someone filling your lungs with water for a little while and then emptying them again. It’s not a good day out. When this is done repeatedly, it’s a flip of the coin as to whether the poor creature can die from drowning or the stress of being semi-drowned so many times.
Wildlife are not our playthings. Just because a creature is slow enough to be caught by human hands, that doesn’t give us the right to do so, and the social media attention gained certainly does not justify the harm caused to the critter.
This is an act we’re all guilty of at some point. What was happening to that animal in the moment didn’t cross our minds. But now we know better, so we must do better.

LAKELAND, Fla. (WWSB/Gray News) - A woman is facing animal cruelty charges for allegedly poisoning her neighbor’s pets.

Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Agricultural Crimes Unit arrested and charged 51-year-old Tamesha Knighten with three counts of felony animal cruelty and one count depositing poison in a public area.

Investigators identified Knighten as a licensed practical nurse working for United Health Care at Wellmed in Lakeland. They say she purposely poisoned her neighbors’ two cats and pregnant Chihuahua, killing all three pets and the eight puppies in the dog’s womb.

The investigation began in August when the couple’s two cats, Luna and Pancake, died within hours of each other. Both exhibited symptoms that included choking, difficulty breathing, foaming from the mouth and significant pain.

Approximately four hours later, the couple could not find their pregnant Chihuahua named Daisy. They began looking around the house for her and later found Daisy deceased, along with her puppies that were still in her womb.

During the investigation, the victims told detectives that Knighten had repeatedly threatened to poison their dogs and cats if the pets came into her yard.

On the day the pets died, they allegedly noticed Knighten pacing in her yard along their shared fence line.

Knighten also allegedly yelled at the victims’ children that day while they were outside playing. The victims asked her not to yell at their kids.

The couple told investigators Knighten was outside when they noticed their cat acting strangely in the yard and foaming at the mouth. Knighten apparently said the cat must be choking on a frog.

Knighten told detectives during an interview that she placed ant bait outside on the ground around her air conditioning unit because ants were getting into it.

When they looked in the victims’ yard, they found a white plastic foam bowl on the ground containing a white meaty substance mixed with a dark-colored material. Knighten claimed to not own any white foam bowls, but detectives found a package of them in her pantry, at which point she said, “Oh, I guess I do have them.”

Knighten also had canned chicken in her pantry after denying that she had any.

Detectives noted there were video cameras in Knighten’s yard. They asked to see the video from that day, which showed her wearing a blue glove and holding a white foam bowl containing the substance.

In the video she’s also seen talking to a relative and pointing at the neighbor’s yard.

Knighten told investigators that she didn’t know what was in the bowl or why she was holding it. She also said she was picking up papers in her yard when asked why she was wearing the glove, but there were no papers to be found when detectives looked in her trash can.

When investigators asked what the mixture in the bowl was, Knighten said it was her “special seasoning” that she put outside to “feed animals in the area.”

Samples from the bowl of chicken and Knighten’s “special seasoning,” the pets’ tissues taken during their necropsies and the ant bait were sent to the University of Florida and analyzed by the school’s veterinary pathology department, as well as to labs at Texas A&M University and Michigan State University.

The chemical analysis confirmed that the pets had ingested phorate, a pesticide found in insecticides. It matched the sample from the laced-canned chicken in the bowl.

Doctors said phorate would have caused the animals to suffer.

The ant bait was not present in any of the animals.

“This suspect, despite all evidence to the contrary, repeatedly denied killing her neighbor’s pets, even telling our detectives that she’s a nurse and had too much to lose,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. “Well guess what? These people lost their beloved pets in a most horrific way and she lost her freedom by going to jail. It takes a cold-hearted person to poison and kill two cats and a pregnant dog. It’s hard to imagine how a person in the medical field could do such a thing.”

Knighten was booked into the Polk County Jail.

If not for her baby being chipped, she never would have got him back..

Just look at the difference at this sweet baby. This was the mama on a chain nursing what was left of her last litter. Look at her face. She looks absolutely defeated.. thanks to Covey Hill Animal Rescue , her and all her babies were rescued..
And thanks to Almost Home Charities, Inc. . , the 2nd picture she is on the way to be spayed so that she will never have to endure another unwanted pregnancy.
If you are looking for an amazing place to donate, Almost Home Charities has already helped so many cats and dogs get fixed for those that need help. They are an amazing organization, but they can only do so much. The more donations they receive the more animals they can help and Lowndes County certainly needs all the help they can get. 🙏

American bully XLs are being added to the list of banned dogs in England and Wales, making it illegal to own one without an exemption from 1 February next year.

From January the dogs will also have to be muzzled and on a lead in public.

There will be a longer deadline for owners to ensure the dogs are neutered.

From 31 December 2023 it will be against the law to sell, abandon, breed from or give away an American bully XL, or have one in public without a lead or muzzle.

The UK's chief veterinary officer Christine Middlemiss previously said there would not be a "cull" of American bully XLs but rather guidance to allow owners to keep them under certain conditions.

Owners can apply to have their pets exempt from the crackdown - which means they would have to pay £92.40 for a certificate and the dog would need to be microchipped and neutered, among other rules.

The second option would be to have their dogs put down, with the government offering £200 in compensation to these owners.
