Recent research may demonstrate that the Rattlesnake Vaccine is not effective. The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) released a statement highlighting the lack of evidence of vaccine (toxoid) efficacy.

Happy 1st Birthday to Roo's 2023 pups! 🥳🥳🥳 We've been a little preoccupied with county fair and reunions this weekend so I'm a little late today with the birthday wishes. I'll share a few pics of how the pups are doing over the next couple of days. Hard to believe a year has flown by already.

The dog in this pic is Thor - a German Wirehair - and a N.U.C.S 1st Place Amateur Pointer. Thor has sired his first litter. His owner is Zach Ehrsam from Greenfield, Iowa. Zach's parents and many of his friends have lost their homes in this week's tornado.

The owner of the dam for this litter - Kenny Wilson - is donating the second-pick male pup to help raise funds for Greenfield. They are selling unlimited raffle spots for $50 each for this pup. And even if you win, but you're not interested in having the pup, you can donate the pup back to Team Wirehair to be given to a youth hunter or someone interested in hunting.

They'll be drawing the winner's name on Monday 5/27/24.

Union, Missouri...

YOUTH QUAIL HUNT: Do you know a youth between 8-18 years old who is interested in learning to upland bird hunt? The Missouri River Valley Chapter of Quail Forever #3152 is hosting its annual youth quail hunt on January 27, 2024! Join them at Quail Creek Game Farm in Union, MO for a fun morning that will include safety instruction and a mentored hunt with trained bird dogs.

Please bring an orange vest, orange hat, eye protection, and ear protection. 12- and 20-gauge shells will be provided, but only a limited number of shotguns will be available to borrow. Participants are encouraged to bring their own youth or suitably sized shotguns.

This is a FREE hunt but please register online or RSVP to Katy or Greg!

4 mo. old Zeke bringing in his retrieve. This guy has been working hard and learning all about the different birds he gets to haul in - from waterfowl to field/woodland varieties.

A few weeks ago I bought a Halo collar. I tried a different GPS collar in the past that didn't do well at all. But so far, I've been happy with Halo. Rooster does really, really well with it. Stryker does well with it in the house but needs additional training for use outside. They sent me a link to share if you're interested in checking it out.

Not only did I use it for a virtual fence on my property, but I also used it to set a fence boundary on land we were hunting. That was a nice perk for us.

I can't and won't guarantee success. Every person/dog is different. Please do your own research and make the decision that is right for you and your dog.

Maggie is one of the pups from Roo's most recent litter. She's 4 months old and doing a great job of deer tracking. It's amazing just how formidable their sense of smell is.

Eden is another pup that looks a lot like her mama. She's been practicing on wings and retrieving dummies. Her owner says she is "DEFINITELY his best friend." That's what I love to hear! ❤️

Been working with Stryker on deer tracking. Took her out this morning for her first real deal practice after a hunter had already located his deer. He left a sample behind for her to find. She did a great job locating.

In AKC pointing breeds hunt tests...Junior Hunter (JH), Senior Hunter (SH), Master Hunter (MH) - what's the big difference? 🤔

💛A JUNIOR HUNTER is scored on 4 categories:
(1-10; 10 being the highest)
1. Hunting
2. Bird Finding Ability
3. Pointing
4. Trainability

💛A Junior hunting dog must establish point on at least fifty(50) percent of the pointable birds it encounters. Junior hunting dogs must hold point until the handler gets within normal gunshot range. Junior hunting dogs must also show reasonable obedience to their handler’s commands.

🧡❤️A SENIOR HUNTER & MASTER HUNTER is scored on 6 categories:
(1-10; 10 being the highest)
1. Hunting
2. Bird Finding Ability
3. Pointing
4. Trainability
5. Retrieving
6. Honoring

🧡A Senior hunting dog must be steady to wing on ALL pointed birds and remain in position until released or the shot. If a senior hunting dog encounters it's brace mate on point, it must always honor it's brace mate. A senior hunting dog must retrieve.

❤️A Master hunting dog (in addition to the SH qualities), is a more polished, steady wing to shot on all birds. All shot birds must be retrieved promptly, tenderly, and always to hand. A master hunter must check-in with it's handler and demonstrate diligent obedience to it's handler.

All scores in AKC Pointing breeds hunt tests categories must never be below 5 and must have a combined average of 7 or higher.
