Where are my Doberman lovers at?!? This is Rex and he LOOOOOOOOVES squeaky toys. He literally pushes on every toy we give him to see if they have squeakers. I meant to write this post yesterday, but I was hosting a get-together last night and didn’t have time to gather my thoughts.

2023 was a great year for us. We were able to rescue 38 dogs and find homes for 22 (technically, we were able to find homes for 32, but 10 of those adoptions are not finalized yet). We hosted a few big and extremely successful fundraisers, attended several events, took in a couple litters of homeless puppies, and celebrated our 15th anniversary. We couldn’t have done any of this without the help of our generous supporters. And while the overwhelming number of homeless dogs in animal control facilities everywhere is a never ending uphill battle, we know you will be right there on the front lines, ready to fight with us. Thank you for helping to make 2023 a success, and for your continued support into the new year.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a pup or two so they can get a yummy Christmas and New Year meal?? This was such a success at Thanksgiving and our dogs ate like kings and queens!! (So sorry we weren’t able to get pics it was kinda crazy at the kennel, we will try to get some this time!! )

Don't Miss Out!

Fundraisers like this are important to the rescue. Money from these efforts help us to feed, vet and further care for all the dogs in here. The winter months are tough as no one gets out as much, its harder to find places to do fundraisers where we can bring the dogs, we have to invest in enrichment activities to keep the dogs active and occupied, we're asked to take on additional dogs that have been dumped...all things we gladly do. But, we need the resources to do so.

UPDATE: If you did not see Kim's post from the other night...a rescue, local to that area, has stepped in to help. They will be meeting with this gentleman and King tomorrow (Sat) morning. THANK YOU for all your offers, well wishes and shares. Finding this other rescue to help was because of all of you. It truly takes a village!

The old saying about "it takes a village" has never meant so much or been so important...

Meet King.
King and his human Dad live in a tent in Aurora.
King's Dad has the opportunity to move into a homeless shelter over the winter but refuses to come to the shelter because it would mean leaving his best friend. While we all applaud this loyalty, staying in a tent through a Midwest winter is not safe for King or his Dad.
According to their case worker, this man has agreed to come to the shelter if a foster home can be found for King. Their case worker has been working hard to find a foster home but has not had any luck.

Unfortunately we are full to capacity and cannot take King. But we have offered to help share their story in hopes one of you can help. The case worker has provided photos and let us know that King is VERY human friendly, but prefers to be the only dog.

*Our original post was removed by Facebook and we're not sure why. Annie is still very much in need of a foster or forever home so we are posting her again.

This is Annie, our resident Belgian Malinois. Let me first tell you how amazing she is…and then I’ll tell you something that will break your heart.

Annie came to us from Animal Control where she was likely dumped after the increase in Malinois ownership due to recent movies depicting how cool this breed is. Malinois, in general, are high energy dogs that thrive on physical activity. They are intelligent, have a strong work ethic, and have remarkable stamina….which requires an owner that understands the need to keep this breed mentally and physically stimulated. While Annie does share these characteristics, she is also pretty mellow for a Mal. She likes to entertain herself with a ball in the yard and would make a great companion for an active owner as she enjoys hiking and going on walks/runs. She’s a total love bug, too, which makes it difficult to see her sitting in a kennel environment instead of a home. A kennel is not the place for a breed like this and the stress of kennel life is getting to her.

While we have had interest in her, nobody has followed through on actually adopting her or giving her a chance. Annie has been let down by three separate applicants…two of who set up appointments to meet her and then NEVER SHOWED UP. Heartbreaking. 😔 Annie deserves someone commited to giving her the home she deserves.

Reflecting on another life changed because of your generosity and support!

Our handsome boy Leonard Skinard! This unfortunate soul's body was riddled with mange. So much so, there weren't but a couple actual hairs on this boy’s head. He was sore, itchy, and not the happiest of campers. With your help we were able to provide him antibiotics and baths that were imperative to his healing, PJs to protect his skin as he healed, and plenty of treats to keep him focused on anything but his discomfort. Now Leonard is enjoying walks with volunteers, play time in the barn, and most importantly - he's ready for his forever family!

Reflecting on the good we've been able to do because of the support you all have given us...

Recently we took in this little nugget, Piglet. Due to lack of proper care she started to have issues with a pr*****ed re**um. A prolapse that reoccurred multiple times. This issue can be painful and is no way for a 8-10 month old puppy to live. Your generosity allowed us to get her the proper care she needed and deserved. Piglet now gets out on walks, she gets to run a play with other dogs like a puppy should and she's ready for her forever home!

The boarding facility where most of our dogs live are offering Thanksgiving dinners to the dogs again this year!! This was such a hit last year and our rescue dogs felt extra special eating a yummy meal!! Would you like to sponsor a dog or two?

They are offering a meal with all the fixings for $15 and bully sticks (to keep them entertained during this BUSY weekend) for $10.

11 hour road trip for these babes!! Made it safe to Bombshell Bullies!

Tomorrow marks three weeks that we rescued Leonard, who we affectionately call “Mr. Skins.” He had a check-up today and the vet found a broken canine tooth that will need to be removed when he gets neutered. But look how great this nakey boy’s skin is doing!!! His fur will eventually grow back and, when it does, he’s going to be such a stunner. 🤩 Thank you to everyone who has donated towards his care. We could not do this without you! 🩵
