We are sad to report that we are close to losing our first laydee. Nervous Nelly was found out in the yard crouched down, barely breathing and drooling. She has not been quite right for a few months, so this is not a surprise; but we are still very down about it. She will be missed.❤️

In June I decided to go vegetarian / mostly vegan for my health to try and shake my blood pressure issues. I have wavered a little. I have eaten a few eggs and used butter infrequently. But I have not eaten any meat or milk etc since June. This year I'm roasting my first turkey. I will never know how it tastes. This no- beef wellington recipe I found online will hopefully do the trick! I made the filling ahead of time and tomorrow she goes in the puffed pastry! Here is the progress so far! Can't wait to show you the finish!

So not sure if this is a coincidence or not. We have been letting the Laydees out of their coop for several hours a day to free range. This was our haul today😳.
I have never seen anything like this before. It's like a goose got in the coop! 😂

Hi guys! Here are some updated pics of the completed coop. Dad just finished the nesting boxes. Every morning the Laydees "walk the plank" from coop to run. They have picked up on their training quickly and are pretty cooperative going in and out in time. Sometimes the kids take over the job if Mom and Dad are busy and they do just fine.👍

This is a chicken perfecting the art of the "dust bath". This is actually how chickens stay clean and ward off mites and they just plain love doing it.

This is a "tractor" when you are speaking about chickens. A box that you can move around your yard with no bottom so chickens can free range while being protected from predators. The Laydees are LOVING this thing!

The Laydees are about 4 weeks old now. They are about to hit their "ugly" stage. This is when they molt and their big girl feathers replace that soft fluffy down they are born with. Here is a photo of a Wyandotte (right) and a Plymouth Rock (left). They are still a constant source of evening entertainment for our family.

The girls are getting a bigger playpen while Dad works on their coop. We purchased this magazine rack at thrift for $2. It's a great little set up for them to practice their roosting skills.

Y'all, this is Henny Penny. She gets the name. This chicken is so sweet. While her sisters want to peck away, all she wants is a person to cuddle with. I see why there are crazy stories of people having inside chickens as pets. 😜
